Chapter 1182: Sothing’s Happened to the Lin Family

Yu Fang, her face lined with years of sorrow and regret, gave a bitter smile as she slowly shook her head.

“Xu Sheng,” she said softly, “you’ve done nothing wrong. The ones at fault were your Uncle and I. It was we who wronged them. We’re the ones who don’t deserve forgiveness.” Her voice cracked slightly. “But now, it’s you who suffers because of our mistakes.”

After that final conversation, Yu Fang vanished from Su Bing’s life entirely. From then on, it was the housekeeper and driver who took Xu Sheng to and from school.

At school, Xu Sheng no longer clung to Su Bing, and Su Bing, to his own relief, found peace in that distance. He no longer had to worry about the Xu family showing up uninvited, demanding that his parents hand him back.

anwhile, Gu Zi’s belly had grown visibly rounder. She had already stopped going to her classes and was now focused solely on her pregnancy, staying ho to rest. An unexpected symptom had erged—an overwhelming drowsiness that had her sleeping at least twelve hours a day just to feel sowhat energized. Still, she made a consistent effort to get up every morning to have breakfast with the children.

Lately, Su Bing had taken over all the breakfast duties himself—not because Gu Zi couldn’t handle them, but because he didn’t want her to feel overheated in the kitchen. She found it sweet, and happily joined the children for the morning al.

With Gu Zi now frequently sleeping in, Su Li had found a new favorite activity—competing with his mother each morning to see who could wake up first.

This morning, Gu Zi managed to rise a few minutes before him.

“Mommy’s amazing!” Su Li announced dramatically, flashing a thumbs-up with all the flair of a ga show host. “Mommy woke up earlier than today!”

Su Le chid in right behind him, nodding earnestly. “Mommy is super amazing! Even with a baby in her tummy, she still got up before Second Brother! Mommy is the best!”

Their enthusiastic praise made Gu Zi blush, laughing in embarrassnt as she rubbed her belly.

Su Bing erged from the kitchen just then, carrying a pot of freshly made sweet egg soup. He placed it in front of her carefully and handed her a spoon with a small warning. “Be careful, it’s hot.”

Gu Zi accepted the spoon and looked down at the bowl—six glistening eggs swimming in warm syrup. It was far too much for her.

With a wry smile, she fished out three of the eggs and gently dropped one into each of the children’s bowls. “You’re all still growing. You should eat more,” she said lightly. “The baby’s taking up a lot of room in here, I can’t eat that much. Three eggs are more than enough for .”

Though the family was now quite well-off, Su Bing still clung to his frugal habits. Each morning, he would boil just one egg each for himself and Su Li, while ensuring that Gu Zi and Su Le had at least two. If Su Le couldn’t finish hers, only then would Su Li eat the leftover. It was thoughtful, yes—but also a bit heartbreaking, considering there was no longer any need for such austerity.

“Alright, Mommy,” Su Bing nodded obediently. “Here, have so sesa candy. This is my first ti making it. Try it and tell how it tastes.”

The sesa candy was sothing Gu Zi had once taught Su Shen to make: ground black sesa mixed with sugar and goji berries, then rolled into little dark orbs—sweet, fragrant, and nourishing.

Gu Zi, who liked to snack on them when idle, picked one up and popped it into her mouth.

“Mmm,” she said, smiling. “Delicious. Su Bing, your cooking is getting better and better.”

Not wanting to be left out, Su Li quickly grabbed one for himself. After chewing thoughtfully, he gave his review. “So good! But… Mommy’s is still the best. Big Brother still needs more practice!”

Su Bing shot him a look—this wasn’t the first ti Su Li had praised one person only to imdiately prop soone else up. The boy clearly needed a bit of discipline.

He made a ntal note: tonight, once Su Li fell asleep, he’d sneak him back to his own room. Let him wake up alone in the dark and cry a little—it might just teach him not to play favorites so easily.

After breakfast, Su Shen returned ho. He had spent the night at the office, sleeping in a corner rather than coming ho—there had simply been too much to do. But since it was his turn to drive the children to school in the morning, he made the effort to co back anyway. He didn’t want Gu Zi to exhaust herself.

“Alright,” Su Shen said, brushing so dust off his jacket. “Finish up and get your things ready—it’s ti to go.”

Gu Zi stood up and walked over to him. “The school’s just fifteen minutes away. If work has you this busy, you don’t have to rush back in the morning. I can take them—it gives a chance to stretch my legs anyway.”

Su Shen looked at her for a mont. Her hair was tied neatly behind her head, she wore a loose maternity dress that flowed gently over her belly. Though she was visibly pregnant, her limbs remained slender, her complexion radiant with a rosy glow. She looked effortlessly beautiful.

“If you want to walk,” he said softly, “then let’s drop the kids off first and I’ll take a walk with you after.”

Gu Zi smiled. “Sure, why not. I’ll ride along.”

As she settled into the backseat, Su Li imdiately dove in beside her, staking his claim. Su Le wasn’t about to miss out either, pushing in to sit snugly on her other side. That left a very reluctant Su Bing, who, with a deep sigh, resigned himself to the front passenger seat.

After dropping the children off at school, Su Shen kept his promise. He and Gu Zi went for a walk together through the neighborhood, eventually winding their way to the local market. There, they bought tomatoes and fresh beef—he rembered her ntioning a craving for tomato and beef stew, so he decided that’s what he’d cook for lunch.

Back ho, after helping her sit down and massaging her legs to relieve so of the swelling, he took the groceries into the kitchen. Just as he stepped back out into the living room, the phone rang.

He picked it up quickly.

On the other end, Jin Long’s voice ca through, low and urgent.

“Su Shen, sothing’s happened to the Lin family.”
