Feng Qingxue often bought dried goods, and Sister Lei was the person who knew her best.
Feng Qingxue replied with a smile, “My elder and children are visiting , and I don’t know when exactly they’ll arrive. I need to prepare in advance and also borrow Dr. Guo’s house to stay. Even if the fruits and vegetables sit for a day or two, they won’t spoil. If they don’t co today, I’ll salt the fish and cook it when they do, so there’s no worry about waste.”
Upon hearing this, Sister Cui, who sold fruit across from Sister Lei, said, “Bring them over so day to et us. You’re so pretty and capable, your kids must be just as great.”
“Sure, once they arrive, I’ll take them to buy groceries and you can et them.”
Laughing, Feng Qingxue left the grocery store and went ho, hanging the net bag of fruit on the wall and putting the prepared ingredients into storage, soaking the dried goods. She then had a simple al of white porridge with pickled cucumbers.
The pickled cucumbers were a gift from Sister Gu, crisp and refreshing, perfect for whetting her appetite.
She didn’t wait for a call from the base gate. Unable to resist the midday sun, she set out again to the dock to see if any boats had arrived.
Before that, she went looking for Dr. Guo.

“Thanks, Sister, but we’ll stay at Aunt’s for convenience.” Dr. Guo is Guo Ming’s sister, and at her behest, she referred to her as Aunt to sound closer.
Hearing this, Sister Gu didn’t insist, “Alright then, go check if they’ve arrived and I’ll tidy up the room.”
After thanking her, Feng Qingxue anxiously rushed to the gate, but there were still no signs or news of Cheng Baoguo, his wife, and the kids, so she borrowed a bicycle and headed straight for the dock.
About seven or eight minutes into her ride, a military transport truck approached.
Feng Qingxue quickly moved to the side of the road and stopped. Unexpectedly, the truck ca to an abrupt stop in front of her, stirring up clouds of dust that made her cough violently.

The passenger door of the truck suddenly opened, and a little fellow as robust as a small calf nimbly climbed down. No sooner had he stood firm than he dashed toward her with open arms, “Mommy, Mommy, why haven’t you co ho yet?”
Feng Qingxue took a good look, both surprised and delighted, her heart settling down, “Erxiong!”
