"Ah!"
As soon as she heard Chen Mo's warning, Die imdiately panicked. She hurried back to her dressing table and began fixing her appearance in front of the bronze mirror—
trying to calm her nerves in the process.
Once her expression was under control, she sat upright and waited for her sister to arrive.
Before long, a tall, slender woman—half-human, half-snake—appeared in the chamber.
Her colorful dress traced a srizing silhouette, seductive to the extre.
Her features were stunningly alluring, yet coated in an icy chill.
From the mont she entered, her sharp phoenix eyes scanned both Chen Mo and Die with keen focus.
"Your Majesty,"
Chen Mo greeted with a smile while sipping tea.
"Sister, what brings you here?"
Die's composure was clearly lacking—her voice carried traces of panic.
"What were you two doing?"
Queen dusa cast a cold glance at Chen Mo before turning to question Die.
"N-Nothing..."
Die, never good at lying—especially not to the sister she respected most—began to stamr.
"Nothing much. Just talking,"
Chen Mo cut in swiftly.
Internally, though, he was howling in frustration.
Damn you, Queen!
If she had arrived just a few minutes later, he would've gotten to savor Die's soft little dumplings...
Ughh...
Die quickly nodded and averted her gaze, unable to et her sister's eyes.
Queen dusa narrowed her eyes.
Just from her sister's reaction, she could already tell—sothing had definitely happened before she arrived.
They had simply been lucky not to be caught in the act.
Suddenly—
Her gaze sharpened, locking onto the jade necklace hanging from Die's fair collarbone.
The pale yellow, flawless gemstone glead with a soft luster.
Queen dusa strode forward and seized the necklace with a flash of chill in her voice.
"Where did you get this, sister?"
Then her cold eyes shifted to Chen Mo.
Shit.
He forgot to have Die take off the necklace.
Cold sweat ran down Chen Mo's back.
Die glanced sideways at him, then clenched her jaw. Determination lit up in her eyes.
"I made it myself."
She grabbed the necklace back from her sister's hand.
She lied.
She couldn't stand the idea of her sister lashing out at Chen Mo over sothing like this again.
Queen dusa froze. Looking into her sister's resolute eyes, she hesitated—
Die wasn't the type to lie.
So, she chose to believe her.
An inexplicable sense of relief washed over her.
She subconsciously touched the magic core necklace hanging from her own neck.
It was very much a case of "Only the prefect can set fires, but the peasants can't light lamps."
"You've got skill, sister. That necklace is beautiful."
Queen dusa offered a rare complint, then sat down directly across from Chen Mo—
as if to say, "I think I'll join in on this little conversation too."
"Sister, you—"
Die bit her lip, clearly frustrated.
But Queen dusa remained calm and aloof. "Weren't you two just chatting? Don't mind . Go on. I won't interrupt."
She even pulled out a few official docunts from her storage ring and began reviewing them on the spot.
Chen Mo's mouth twitched.
Now both sisters were in the sa room.
No matter who he flirted with—it was a guaranteed death sentence.
He made small talk with Die for a few minutes, then excused himself and left the chamber.
And so it continued for the next few days.
Chen Mo was going insane.
Every ti he was alone with Die during the day—no matter the place—
Queen dusa would always show up at the worst possible mont.
It made Chen Mo's heart race with anxiety.
The worst part?
At night, when he shared a bed with Queen dusa...
He could kiss her, touch her waist or smooth back, but anything further—
and she'd imdiately shut him down.
He was left in a constant state of torture.
Eventually, Chen Mo gave up and just hugged her waist to sleep.
Late at night—
As usual, Queen dusa quietly slipped out of her room.
Outside, her attendants—Yue Nu, Hua She'er, and the others—had all been assigned surveillance duties elsewhere.
Just as she thought everything would go like the previous nights—
A figure suddenly appeared in her path.
"Big sister!"
"Little sister!"
They spoke in unison.
"What are you doing out here this late?" they asked simultaneously.
"Huh?"
Queen dusa narrowed her eyes.
"This is my palace. Shouldn't I be the one asking you that?"
Die said nothing.
Queen dusa furrowed her brows. "Don't tell ... you're here to find Chen Mo?"
"N-No! I ca to find you!"
Another lie—but this ti, Die wasn't as nervous.
"What for?"
"I... I couldn't sleep. I wanted to... sleep with you tonight."
Die blushed, hiding her hands behind her back.
"Nonsense." Queen dusa scolded, then added, "Go back to your own room and sleep."
Die had never actually planned to sleep with her sister—it was just an excuse.
But if she left now, the lie would be exposed.
So, she quickly grabbed Queen dusa's arm, clinging to it as she whined,
"Nooo, Sister! Let sleep with you tonight. We used to sleep together all the ti..."
Queen dusa froze.
Before Die had turned against her, the two of them often shared a bed.
Refusing now felt... oddly heartless.
"...Fine. But only for tonight."
"Thank you, Sister!"
"Hmph."
"By the way, why are you still awake so late?" Die asked with a sly smile.
"...I couldn't sleep either."
—
In the side chamber, Chen Mo listened as the sisters' voices faded into the distance.
He smacked his forehead.
This is karma...
Back in Queen dusa's bedchamber—
The two sisters lay back-to-back on the soft couch.
Even their sleeping posture was identical—one arm tucked beneath their heads, the other resting gently on their stomachs.
Half an hour passed.
"Sister, are you asleep?"
"Little sister, are you asleep?"
They turned over and spoke in sync once again.
"Nope. x2."
They faced away from each other again.
Silence fell.
Both of them looked slightly puffed up with frustration.
Neither of them slept that night.
At dawn, Die finally left her sister's room.
—
anwhile, in the side chamber—
Chen Mo had spent the whole night thinking.
He finally realized the truth.
There's no way Queen dusa kept showing up that perfectly unless soone was tailing .
So this ti, he had Mo Yan notify Die directly.
And instead of using the front door—
He slipped out through the window.
—
At a blind spot in the rear of the palace—
Chen Mo t up with Die.
He had discovered this secluded place during a patrol and imdiately thought—
This would be perfect for sneaking around.
Didn't expect to use it so soon.
Blood already rushing, Chen Mo didn't hesitate.
He lowered his head and began kissing Die's flawless, delicate face—
Her forehead, her eyes, her nose...
He left traces of himself on every inch of her exposed skin.
Elsewhere...
Yue i, bored from being cooped up in the royal city, suddenly felt the urge to go for a walk.
Surrounded by nothing but unworthy n, her loneliness and isolation were sothing no one could understand.
