Left alone, Kellen headed up to the A Class gym and changed in the changing room. When he ca out, he found that the gym was still quite empty without the new recruits. He also still hadn’t seen Gwen over the last two days, and wondered if her group was also getting a special form of training since so of the regular A Class Espers weren’t here as well.
Not thinking too much about it, he took his ti warming up before he began his work out. No one bothered him, and the Espers who were in the gym working out seed nice enough.
Once he was sure he had done enough, he grabbed a quick shower before heading back to his apartnt. Slipping into his slippers, he quickly changed into sothing comfortable before heading back downstairs and munching on an apple while he looked over the things he could cook in his fridge.
Finishing his apple quickly, Kellen then tossed the core out and pulled on his apron before pulling out anything from the fridge.
He still had quite a bit of at inside, and knew he would need to use it up soon. It was either that, or they kept replacing the food in his fridge when he was at work. He really hoped that they weren’t refreshing him everyday.
Either way, he found so steaks inside, and also pulled out so chicken in case the Captain actually ant his words, and began working on making a nice salad along with so baked potatoes. He was going to add so chickpeas, dried fruits, cheese, and even a few hard boiled eggs to the salad since he needed the protein and carbs, but he also wanted to get so vegetables in his body as well. He’d turned on the oven and had put so eggs in a pot to boil when he heard a knock on his door.
Turning, and wiping his hands on his apron, he quickly made his way to the door before opening it. On the other side was a smiling, if not slightly ruffled Captain. Kellen opened his mouth but the Captain beat him to it.
"I did nothing you wouldn’t approve of. You are more than welco to check , but I promise I didn’t go wild. Sotis, when there are several S Classes in one space, things can get a little tricky." Kellen narrowed his eyes, his grip tight on the side of the door and the Captain chuckled nervously. "Will you let in? I promise I’ll explain." He batted his big, yellow eyes, and Kellen hesitated for a mont, before letting the Esper in.
As the man stepped inside, it was clear to Kellen that he had co directly from work. He hadn’t changed into casual clothes, and his uniform wasn’t as pristine as it normally was. Kellen frowned as the man took off his shoes and placed them nicely into the shoe rack before pulling off his jacket and hanging it inside the hidden closet. When the Captain noticed his stares, he smiled warmly at him.
"What’s on your mind Mr. Woods?" He asked and Kellen sighed.
"Should you be coming here right away? What about your clothes? Are you even comfortable right now?" The Captain froze, before his shoulders relaxed slowly. His eyes deepened, and Kellen wondered what he had said that had made his feelings shift.
"Mr. Woods, wherever you are is where I am my most comfortable. Does it bother you that I am still in my uniform? I can change if you want too." Kellen shook his head at his words, before turning back to the kitchen.
"No, I’m not bothered by it. I just don’t want you to be uncomfortable in my ho." Kellen told him. He was almost to the stove when he felt the Captain’s arms wrap around his waist. The Captain pressed his lips against Kellen’s neck quickly, just a little peck, before he spoke.
"That’s very sweet of you, Kellen. I truly appreciate that you care about ." Kellen didn’t say anything as he watched the eggs begin to boil, setting a tir so he wouldn’t over boil them. He wasn’t sure how to say it, but he did enjoy the feeling of the Captain wrapped around him. The weight of his head resting on his shoulder, the feeling of his clothing rubbing against his own. It was sothing he’d never had before, but it was growing on him not as slowly as he anticipated.
Kellen continued to move around the kitchen, the Captain moving with him like a leech. It was a relatively quick al to put together, and at one point Kellen forced the Captain to separate from him to peel the boiled eggs.
He had worried that the Captain was going to complain, but instead he’d been smiling the whole ti as they stood side by side in the kitchen, working away. His eggs didn’t co out as nicely as Kellen would have hoped, but the Captain easily admitted it was his first ti peeling eggs, and Kellen easily forgave him.
Dinner preparation continued smoothly after that, until Kellen sat with his plate full, with steak, salad, and a baked potato covered in cheese and sour cream. The Captain had a similar plate, only he had chicken instead of steak. The two of them settled down at the island, and while Kellen had been plating everything the Captain had gathered drinks and the like for the two of them. Without consulting Kellen, he’d grabbed one of Taylor’s shakes from the fridge and placed that beside a glass of water for Kellen.
Kellen, who wasn’t used to being taken care of by anyone but his parents, and in a weird way, Gwen, wasn’t sure how to behave besides thanking him. The Captain seed unbothered, but happy. The two of them ate in relative silence, and Kellen felt it was quite different compared to when he had eaten alone recently. It felt...warr sohow, but he didn’t know why.
The Captain finished eating first, and sat watching Kellen as he thodically cut his steak up and ate it. He seed pleased, happy, and overall, well.
"I forgot to tell you what we got up to instead of fighting." The Captain said, and Kellen’s movents paused for a second before he continued.
"So you didn’t fight?" Kellen asked, and the Captain made a small noise of contemplation.
"Well, not in the normal sense, no. I brought them to the obstacle course. The one that you, Brent and I redesigned. It helped us blow off steam, and they really seed to enjoy it. They might reach out to see if the two of you wanted to help consult on their own obstacle courses." The Captain’s yellow gaze was warm as he looked over Kellen. "It would be an interesting side hustle. Building and changing obstacle courses that can satisfy S Class Espers." Kellen shook his head with a slight smile at the Captain’s words.
"I don’t think that’ll be a very popular one. It sounds pretty niche." Kellen said, and the Captain laughed.
"You’ll never have to worry. I am more than happy to keep you consistently employed. If you want it. If you wanted to retire tomorrow, you could do that too. Anything you want." Kellen stared at the man who seed to an every word out of his mouth, and shook his head, his own smile on his face. He reached out, cupping the Captain’s face in his hand. The Captain’s eyes widened.
"You are giving too much, Captain. I don’t think I’ve given you enough in return." Kellen told him, and the Captain’s eyes shook. He inhaled, and exhaled shakily, before placing his hand over Kellen’s on his face.
"That’s not true. You agreed to be my pair. In fact, you hunted down when my fear overtook . You forgave for changing you, easily, and have allowed to touch you sotis. You have saved so many of my Guild, that without you I probably wouldn’t be as well off as I am. You have given your blood, sweat and tears for the things I cared about, only making fall helplessly for you, and there is no better person I could find. You are worth everything I give you, and more. In fact, I feel like I’m not giving you enough." Kellen chuckled at the Captain’s impassioned words. He knew that he probably ant most of them, but now wasn’t the ti to nitpick.
"I don’t think doing my job properly is considered a good deed, but thank you Captain, for giving that." Kellen finished eating, while the Captain watched him hotly.
As soon as he was done, the Captain looked at their plates and they were gone, vanished from sight. Kellen blinked, before the Captain took his hand gently in his own and led him to the couch. He took off his apron for him, before settling him down on the couch, a silly t.v. program on in the background as the Captain held him in his arms. Kellen couldn’t help but laugh.
"I am beginning to think you only want for my body, despite your flowery speech earlier. Kellen joked, since the Captain’s hand rested over Kellen’s pec. The Captain, who couldn’t defend himself since his hand was where it was, sighed.
"Well, you were still eating, so I didn’t want to spoil your dinner." He said, and Kellen laughed. He turned his gaze towards the Captain, and watched as the Captain’s gaze shifted from yellow to gold. He didn’t even glance at his lips, but Kellen did. "What am I thinking about right now?" The Captain asked softly, and Kellen swallowed.
"The weather?" He offered, and the Captain’s laughter filled their kiss.
