Reality ca knocking for Andrew the next morning.
Maxwell had left, gone for a eting that had been scheduled months in advance that he couldn’t move, and Andrew told him that it was alright that he left. Why would he want to get in his way? So, Maxwell had left in a flurry of kisses, and hard warnings about taking care of himself, and Andrew was left alone in the house.
For the first ti in a long, long ti.
No Michael, no Maxwell, just Andrew alone in a giant house.
So, Andrew did what anyone would do. He went back to his apartnt to begin to clear it out.
With the help of so of the security team (who Andrew had started to get close to), Andrew headed over to the apartnt next door. He was worried that others were going to comnt on him coming in with two alphas, but he thankfully didn’t run into anyone on the way up.
Andrew still rembered his password, and when the door opened, one of the guys beside him coughed. Surprised, Andrew turned to him, confused.
"Is sothing wrong?" Andrew asked quietly, curious, and the guard seed nervous.
"Uh, no, it’s just...Mr. Beckett’s sll is...everywhere here." Andrew was surprised to hear that. He couldn’t tell, and that had to be because Maxwell’s scent was so deeply embedded into his skin it was hard for him to notice. Confused, and worried, Andrew glanced at him, still standing in his doorway.
"Is that...a bad thing?" Andrew asked, and the guard shifted nervously on his feet.
"Well, considering that you two are dating, no. But, it could be a problem if you were dating soone else. It’s a clear marking of territory." Andrew was stunned. Shocked even.
"You can do that?" Andrew asked, surprised, and the guards chuckled.
"Yeah. It’s a pretty common practise. You do it with Mr. Beckett all the ti. Two people who’ve manifested and are dating usually mark each other with their scents. If they’ve been together long enough, or they’ve mated, their scents begin to integrate. But sotis if soone isn’t dating, they might spread their pheromones like they’re an animal marking territory. It’s clear that Mr. Beckett has done this to your apartnt. How often did he co here?" Andrew hesitated answering their question until the three of them were actually inside the apartnt.
There was a layer of dust that had settled on everything in the absence of Andrew being here. Everything needed to be cleaned, except his clothing which had been brought over shortly after Andrew had moved in with Maxwell. The rest of his things? He had no idea where to put them.
"Uh, not often, actually. We spent most of our ti at his place. It was just...bigger, and I could kinda tell that Maxwell didn’t want to be out of the safety of his ho." That only seed to make everything more confusing. When did Maxwell do this? How long ago was it? "How long would pheromones stay around like this?" Andrew asked, and the guard who was doing the most talking tsked.
"It’s hard to say. It’s so potent that I don’t want to say it was a long ti ago, but I also know that Mr. Beckett hasn’t left your side for long recently. And I would tell you if he requested us to accompany him here, but he hasn’t." Andrew nodded. This was a strange thing to find out.
Had Maxwell been marking him and his things without his knowledge?
"Do...do so people do it to test if others are telling the truth? Like, if they are lying about being a beta?" Andrew asked next, and the other guard winced.
"Sotis. But I would say this is overkill for that kind of thing. There is a theory floating out there that if you surround soone in pheromones for a long enough ti you can trigger them to manifest." It...It made the most sense, but at the sa ti...
"My Mom was an oga, and I would assu I was always around her pheromones as a kid and that didn’t make manifest." Andrew muttered, more to himself then to the guards. The two guards shared a look behind his back as Andrew wandered into the kitchen, grabbing a few of the kitchen gadgets he wanted from here.
"Uh, well, it doesn’t always work when it cos to family mbers. Usually it cos from an oga or alpha you aren’t related to. It’s supposed to...stimulate you." The guard cleared his throat after he spoke and Andrew paused what he was doing in the kitchen. Stimulate huh? Probably sexually then.
But it still...hmm, sothing still wasn’t quite right.
Maxwell was a logical guy. He didn’t seem like the type to mark his territory, or to try and change Andrew. It made the most sense to test him to see if he was lying, but even then, the logic was shaky. Was there another reason?
He’d have to ask Maxwell when he ca ho from his eting.
Andrew was closing his miscellaneous large kitchen utensil drawer when sothing fell. He’d had his mouth open slightly, about to ask one of the guards to check sothing when his brain shut down, trying to process what he was seeing.
No one said anything as all three of them stood staring at the ground. A few drops of blood followed as Andrew kept his mouth open.
A tooth. A tooth had just fallen out of his mouth and landed on the ground. It was one of his canines.
Andrew’s vision blurred as he continued to stare at the ground. His grip on the counter tightened until he heard sothing crack and even that didn’t bring him out of his confusion and shock.
"A-Andrew, tilt your head up. You’re getting blood everywhere." One of the guards finally said, approaching him. "Dude, go get a cloth and a baggy. Dr. Smith is going to want that tooth." The guard who had done the most talking ordered the other around. Andrew was still in shock as the other two moved around him.
Andrew let him tilt his head back until it was straight, and even let the man (after he washed his hands) put his fingers in his mouth and check his other teeth.
His second canine ca out without much prodding.
Andrew’s knees almost crumpled beneath him. The two guards caught him and dragged him over to his big, comfy chair. The second one handed him a cloth for his mouth, while the first set to work putting both teeth into a little baggy from his kitchen, and calling the necessary people.
Andrew really hoped that they didn’t bother Maxwell while he was in his eting. He wanted to tell them that, but he was too afraid to speak. Too afraid to open his mouth and sothing else to co flying out.
"Dr. Smith is on his way. He’s coming here first, alright? Don’t panic Andrew. It’s-It’s normal for this to happen when a true alpha changes." Andrew appreciated that they were trying, but they weren’t the greatest at comforting. Andrew’s shoulders shook with silent laughter as he held the cloth to his mouth, but refused to laugh or speak or loud.
He was terrified that the rest of his teeth were going to fall out.
He sat in a daze in his chair as the guards moved around the room speaking softly to each other. Andrew even put his glasses up on his head so that he didn’t have to see them clean up the blood, or see the little baggy of teeth on the counter. He just sat staring in a daze towards the door.
He didn’t know how long it took Michael to get there, but it felt like a while. He thought that maybe the guards tried to talk to him, but he couldn’t rember. It wasn’t until the door opened that he even moved.
"Andy?" Michael’s voice was soft, soothing, quiet. He was using his Doctor voice on him. A small but vocal part of him was pissed that he was doing that, but at the sa ti? The part of him that was panicking aggressively shut that vocal part of him down.
Andrew needed Michael to speak to him that way. He was not good. He needed to be soothed.
Andrew slowly turned his gaze towards Michael, who was still blurry because he hadn’t lowered his glasses to his eyes. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that Michael was worried about him. They weren’t supposed to have a lesson today because Andrew had been doing so well, so for him to get called in wasn’t a good sign.
Andrew slowly raised his hand and pointed to the counter, the cloth still pressed against his mouth. Andrew watched as the blurry version of Michael got up and looked at the counter. He whispered quietly to the two guards before he ca back.
"Can I check your mouth?" Michael asked and Andrew nodded. He let Michael pull the cloth away and even opened his mouth for him. Andrew felt numb as Michael poked and prodded in his mouth, before he stepped back. "You don’t need the cloth anymore. The bleeding has stopped." Michael told him.
Andrew dropped his hand. Michael reached towards him, gently lowering his glasses so that Andrew could see him clearly. His face was full of concern, and he was frowning.
"Andy, why aren’t you speaking?" Michael asked softly, and Andrew frowned. He was afraid to move his mouth around, afraid of what weird shit would happen next. He knew. They had warned him, but Andrew hadn’t taken them seriously. Now he was missing his two fucking canine teeth.
They’d fallen out of his mouth in perfectly good condition. Andrew knew because he brushed his teeth all the fucking ti.
"Can you write it out and tell that way?" Michael asked, and Andrew nodded slowly. Afraid to shake his head too much. Michael, getting a sense that he knew exactly what was going on, sighed, and rustled around in his pocket for his phone. Andrew hadn’t brought his own since he didn’t think he’d be at this apartnt for long. He thought it was going to be a quick trip, get an idea of what was still over here, and then discuss with Maxwell when he got ho what he should do.
Too fucking bad his reality had decided to co crashing into and ruining his plans for the day.
