Andrew was now the nervous wreck of the pair as they stepped into the elevator to go to Maxwell’s parents apartnt.
He had known Maxwell ca from money, but he hadn’t fully processed what that ant.
Until now.
They had been picked up by a driver, which wasn’t the strange part. Andrew had been a driver for Maxwell for six months, give or take. That was fine. What he hadn’t expected was that they were going to drive into a part of town that Andrew had only heard that people lived in.
It was so rich, Andrew had heard rumours you couldn’t even buy in the neighbourhood. You were grandfathered in. So when the car stopped at a huge high-rise in the area, Andrew’s head began to spin.
Maxwell had seed upset, and Andrew was too worried now to ask why. Maxwell’s jerky movents gave his temperant away, but Andrew was trying to regulate his breathing.
Once inside the elevator, and after making sure that the flowers were upright, Andrew took in the fact that there were several floors that were blocked out. Swallowing, he glanced at Maxwell, who was tapping his foot impatiently.
"Uh, why are there so floors missing?" Andrew asked, ignoring the fact that Maxwell had pushed the topmost button.
"Oh, that’s because several of the apartnts are several storeys. My parents’ condo is three storeys high. It’s actually-no, I’ll confront them about it later." Maxwell sniffed, crossing his arms, and Andrew stared at the smaller man, trying to soothe himself.
Giving in, he bent over and sniffed at Maxwell’s nape, inhaling his comforting scent and felt himself calm almost imdiately. Maxwell gave him a startled look.
"Are you alright?" Maxwell asked, his voice softening and Andrew nodded.
"Just nervous now that we’re approaching the actual eting ti." Andrew said, admitting half of the truth. He didn’t want Maxwell to worry about him being intimidated by the money his family had. That was sothing Andrew would have to get over on his own.
Maxwell took Andrew’s free hand in his own, raising his knuckles to Maxwell’s lips. He planted a kiss there, and Andrew felt himself swoon. Maxwell’s blue gaze t his own, and he smiled softly.
"Who would ever dislike the Dr. Andrew Knox? The big sweetheart that is my boyfriend? They’re just anxious because it’s the first real relationship I’ve been in. They’ll love you." Maxwell told him, trying to soothe Andrew. Andrew nodded as the elevator doors opened and Andrew ca face to face with the fact that there was only one door on the floor.
He did his best not to hyperventilate.
Maxwell gave his hand a squeeze, before leading the way out of the elevator and taking him to the front door. Andrew gave a slow, calming inhale and exhale before Maxwell pressed the doorbell.
The door flung open almost imdiately, and Andrew nearly swallowed his tongue.
He knew where Maxwell got his good looks from.
But boy was he in trouble.
Maxwell’s Mother wasn’t a tall woman by any ans, but she certainly had a presence. She kept her caral coloured hair short, but it was feathery, and frad her face well. She wore a necklace of pearls, with matching pearl and diamond earrings that drooped into teardrop shapes. It was a subtle show of wealth, but one that Andrew did not miss. Her eyes were steely, and scanned Andrew with an expert, and angry gaze.
It was the outfit that truly settled Andrew’s fate. She wore a one piece dress that hugged her curves, with a small, stylish cape in the sa colour that wrapped around her shoulders, held in place with a silvery clasp of a dragon wrapping its claws around a pearl. The dress and matching fabric looked expensive, and the shade of blue Andrew hadn’t seen before. The shoes she wore were pointed, heeled, and complinted the rest of her outfit.
The reason why Andrew knew he was fucked?
It was the sa style of dress that all the mother in laws who hated the new partner wore.
Andrew was hated before he’d even stepped through the door.
Swallowing, since the flowers he had in his hand didn’t match her the in the slightest, Andrew gave a small, but polite bow.
"H-Hello." He stuttered, and wanted the ground to swallow him up. Maxwell’s Mother looked him up and down, and was about to open her mouth when Maxwell interrupted her.
"I cannot believe this snub you’ve shown my partner." Maxwell started, and Andrew blinked in surprise. "You didn’t do this to Ben, when he brought his partner for his first visit." Maxwell complained, and Andrew stared at him with wide eyes. Maxwell’s Mother sniffed.
"It’s a family dinner, Max. Of course I’m not going to drag him to the estate. Your Father and I also have projects in town we’re working on. Of course we’re going to host it at the condo." Maxwell snorted, rolling his eyes.
"I know that’s not true. You just don’t want to give him a chance." Maxwell snarled, and Andrew had to step in, placing his hand on Maxwell’s shoulder.
"I don’t consider it a snub, Maxwell." Maxwell growled, turning his churning gaze towards Andrew. If Andrew had known this was why he was angry, he would have tried to talk him out of it in the elevator.
"Don’t try to soothe . This is an obvious snub. If you have been from our world, you would have turned around had you realised we had an estate." Andrew blinked, faced with Maxwell’s anger and burst into laughter. The way he so easily flew into a rage for him made a warm, soft feeling build inside his chest.
Smiling, he bent and planted a kiss on Maxwell’s cheek, much to his Mother’s surprise.
"Max, thank you for getting angry for my sake, but it’s alright. Why would your Mother go out of her way to snub ? She must be telling the truth about having to work on a project and stay in town. Plus, I will probably do better in this kind of intimate environnt than at an estate. It’s actually quite considerate." Andrew told him, and ignored the way that Maxwell’s Mother stiffened, and the way her eyes darted around.
Andrew was fine if this was done out of concern for Maxwell. He could handle anything in that regard. As long as it wasn’t done to hurt Maxwell, he would take any kind of treatnt.
"Andrew, are you sure? I an, I have a pretty good understanding of my parents, so I-" Maxwell started, but stopped when he saw the smile on Andrew’s face. He closed his eyes and sighed, shaking his head. "You’re so stubborn." He protested, and Andrew smiled at him warmly.
"I would like to argue that you are more stubborn than I am, Maxwell." Maxwell narrowed his eyes at the way Andrew called him, before he huffed.
"We’ll agree to disagree." He muttered, before both n turned their attention back to Maxwell’s beautiful Mother. Andrew smiled, and extended the flowers towards her.
"I didn’t want to co empty-handed, and your husband said you liked flowers. I hope you like it." Andrew said sincerely, and watched as several emotions flitted across her face, before she settled on resignation.
"Thank you." She said softly, and Andrew grinned as she took the flowers gently in her hands.
"It’s no bother. Had I known the the for the evening, I would have picked a different colour. It’s an old habit. Forgive ." Andrew laughed at himself. "I used to pick out flowers for my Mom. I chose her favourite. I hope you like them." Andrew’s smile was soft, and it was clear he was still nervous. Maxwell was glaring daggers at his own Mother, but she wasn’t a fool. She could read in between the lines.
"It’s quite alright. We haven’t had hydrangeas in the house for quite so ti, but I think they’ll suit us. Co on in, you two. Max, your brothers arrived ahead of you." Maxwell tsked, and Andrew chuckled. He’d never had siblings, so he wasn’t sure what to expect.
It certainly wasn’t the atmosphere that the room settled into once everyone was present.
Maxwell’s Father was off to the side, chatting to a man who was as broad as he was, but with lighter, brown hair, a similar shade to Maxwell’s Mother’s. He had his back turned to them, and was wearing a pair of beige dress pants with a burgundy sweater. Maxwell’s Father was wearing a full suit, like Maxwell and Andrew, but it was in a light gray shade, with a blue dress shirt underneath. It was a similar colour to the one he had gifted Andrew, and Andrew smiled.
It must have been a sign of solidarity.
There were three other people in the room as they entered.
The space was huge, with a large white couch, with a soft, warm chocolate rug underneath it. The rest of the room was done in monochromatic shades of gray. It was ant to be regal, but it really showed off the gold and silver accents to the room whenever they showed up. As much as this was a living room, it didn’t feel...hoy. Andrew tried not to show how uncomfortable he was, but he knew he wasn’t succeeding that well.
Especially when the other three turned their gazes to him.
He could tell two of them were also ogas, given that they were smaller, and more petite compared to the rest of the family of giants. That, and they looked nothing like the rest of the family.
The first was a man of middle eastern descent, with a slightly askew nose, but kind, deep brown eyes set behind a pair of gold rimd glasses. He had longer hair, and wore it in a braid at the base of his neck. He wore a sweater similar to one of Maxwell’s brothers, and in the sa shade of burgundy. He wore dark dress pants instead of the beige shade, and Andrew thought it was quite cute that they were wearing matching sweaters.
Glancing at Maxwell, he wondered if they could do that at so point.
The second oga was wrapped up in Maxwell’s other brother’s arms. They were pale, and smaller than Maxwell. With big, green eyes, and freckles covering their cheeks. They had blonde hair that curled around their ears cutely, and they wore a sweater that swallowed them. It was dark green and knit. Honestly, it looked quite comfortable. But Andrew didn’t pay him much attention because the last mber of the household was glaring at him fiercely.
He had to be related to Maxwell, because he looked like his parents. Dark hair, gray eyes, his handso face was ruined by the death glare he was shooting in Andrew’s direction. He wore a green sweater as well, but Andrew could see a white dress shirt peeking out underneath it. If he could growl, he would be doing so. Andrew let out a light exhale.
Well, this was going to be fun.
