In Andrew’s defense, he wasn’t used to getting help. Hadn’t been for a long ti. So it shouldn’t have co as a shock to anyone that a few days before Maxwell’s brother’s wedding Andrew had nothing to wear.
You know, on account of him shooting up like a prepubescent teen in his late 20’s.
It did an that he had no clothes to wear to the job he would start after the wedding, and that he had nothing to wear to the wedding. It was a source of argunt between the couple. Andrew didn’t want to bother Maxwell, or have Maxwell pay for his clothes. While Maxwell wanted to use his wealth to do a nice thing for Andrew.
Currently, they were at an impasse, and Maxwell was about to lose his mind.
"Andrew, I know you don’t like buying you things, but this is too much. You don’t have clothes to wear!" Maxwell declared as Andrew was in the middle of folding the clothes he had just washed. Because he only had the three sets of pants and shirts that Michael had brought him in the beginning. In case a situation like this happened.
"It’s not a big deal, Max. I’ll figure sothing out. I can-"
"Dr. Smith has not cleared you for large stores, Andrew! And I can’t understand why you won’t let do this for you. I just want to show my appreciation for all that you do for , and you won’t let . It’s not even that much money. It’s spare change." Maxwell stated, his arms crossed as he stared at the stubborn man before him.
Andrew continued to fold the laundry calmly, even as he felt his own blood coming to a boil. It was one of the things that they hadn’t ever discussed.
The difference in inco.
It was obvious. Anyone could tell. Even if Andrew had stocks in a large company, or partial ownership, or whatever it truly was, Andrew hadn’t known about it. So he’d been living a normal, average life as a single inco man with so, but not a lot of student debt. He lived in an apartnt, he didn’t own his own ho. He rented. He’d had to budget things if he wanted to get an expensive item.
It was clear that Maxwell didn’t co from the sa life he’d lived. Andrew had seen his family’s apparently ’apartnt’ and found out that they had an estate. Who the fuck even had those anymore?
He also considered buying a new wardrobe as nothing. He was using his ’spare change’ as he called it. There was no way Andrew was going to take this lying down. And no way he could accept his offer.
"Maxwell, while I appreciate the sentint, I am fine. Michael is still coming over later in the day, and we can ask him then. I am more than capable of purchasing my own clothes." Andrew stated firmly, and Maxwell huffed.
"Why won’t you let help you? I just want to show you that I appreciate all that you’ve done for ." Maxwell protested and Andrew sighed. He t Maxwell’s bright blue gaze with a firm gaze of his own.
"And you letting live with you rent free is already enough. And it’s no bother on my part to take care of you. I like doing it. I don’t need to be compensated." Andrew said, and Maxwell glowered at him.
"Really. I don’t understand why you are being so difficult. You have six items of clothing you can wear, and no underwear! Just let buy things for you!"
"I don’t want to feel like a pet you’re keeping, Maxwell!" Andrew snapped, and Maxwell’s glare didn’t change.
"How dare you refer to yourself like that? I could never think that! I just want to take care of you. Let do that!"
"You are already doing plenty, Maxwell!"
"Is this a bad ti?" Both n, so focused on their argunt, didn’t notice that Maxwell’s Father had entered the house. He looked a bit sheepish, clearly unsure what to do when walking in on them arguing.
Maxwell sighing, turning away from Andrew to go greet his Father.
"No. This wasn’t going anywhere anyways. What brought you here, Father?" Maxwell asked, and his Father smiled at him.
"Well, I might be able to solve your little argunt. Andrew, could you stand up for ?" Andrew, who had been folding laundry on the couch, gave him a confused look but got to his feet. Maxwell remained where he was standing as his Father strolled towards him, looking Andrew up and down before nodding. "Ah, it seems that Dr. Smith gave the right asurents. Perfect. You can bring them in." His Father raised his voice, and suddenly a group of n and won ca into the ho.
Each person was carrying several cloth bags that Andrew recognised. Only because they were the top designers of the ti, and Andrew felt his knees go weak.
"You did not." Andrew said, clearly distressed, and Maxwell’s Father gave him a cheeky grin.
"Oh yes I did. I cannot have anyone looking down on my son-in-law at my son’s wedding, now can I? Especially when they are such a powerful young alpha, and soone my son personally selected. Keep in mind, Andrew, I had planned to do this before I found out that your height had changed. Not many designers appreciate having to resize things, but they do appreciate being compensated fairly for their work." He winked, the smile still on his lips.
When Andrew glanced at Maxwell for help, he found the man pouting. He had his arms crossed, and he was glaring at the group of people coming into the house. Andrew didn’t think it was for the sa reason Andrew was upset.
"I can’t believe you thought of it before I did." Maxwell muttered, and his Father chuckled.
"Well, it just ans you have so things to learn from still, son." He turned to Andrew again, before gently pushing on his shoulder. "Now, co try on the suits I selected. I got several, just because I wanted to make sure you shone perfectly for the wedding since you are attending. We normally have several costu changes, and I didn’t want you to stick out for not changing. You’re new to this kind of thing, and I will not have anyone finding an imperfection in you. Not when Mrs. Proctor is breathing down my neck."
Andrew, unsure what he could do in this situation, let himself be pushed into the bedroom and watched as people kept dropping things off into Maxwell’s large walk-in closet. Maxwell’s Father tsked.
"You didn’t clear out a spot for him? Maxwell! Share your space with your partner!" He scolded, and Maxwell ca in, leaning against the doorfra. He still looked upset, and his arms were still crossed.
"Andrew wouldn’t let . He was being stubborn. He intentionally went and put everything into the dressers." Maxwell easily ratted him out, and Andrew felt his cheeks heat as his Father-in-law leveled him with a serious, upset gaze.
"Andrew, you need to learn to rely on Maxwell. He’s only looking out for your best interest. So am I. Well, there might be a little bit of bragging, but that’s a minor thing. Now, Maxwell, do you care if I have them make a spot for Andrew in the closet?" His Father asked, and Maxwell chuckled darkly.
"No. Go ahead, Father." Andrew was out of his elent. The two of them were working together seamlessly and he didn’t know what to do. He had been this close to having a huge argunt with Maxwell about this, and then his Father had swooped in and dealt a death blow to Andrew’s argunt.
Andrew didn’t think he’d ever win against the Beckett’s. He’d already lost to the older brother Ben, Maxwell, and now his Father. Maybe twice. It had nothing to do with the money, Andrew was just sure that they were used to getting what they wanted. Andrew was not experienced in that regard. He was just a regular guy in the grand sche of things. A regular guy who felt hopeless as he watched clothes ant for him enter into Maxwell’s house and fill up his closet.
This was feeling like a little bit too much.
"Now co on. Dr. Smith is supposed to be here in any minute, and I need to make sure everything fits. Chop chop Andrew. There should be so underwear in that bag over there. Don’t worry, I made sure they removed all of the prices. So of these pieces didn’t even have them." Andrew felt his head spin as he robotically did as he was told.
Maxwell was laughing at him as he got pushed around by his Father so Andrew knew that there was no help for him coming from his boyfriend. He was on his own. Especially since he knew that Michael was going to be 100% for this take over.
Andrew gave up. His argunt still stood. He didn’t want to feel like Maxwell’s pet, but at this point, he felt like his Father’s pet, and he didn’t know what to make of that. Maxwell seed to find it amusing, so at the very least, this might have been a rich person thing? He wasn’t sure, and he didn’t want to find out.
