"I want to. But... But... How can I? I... can’t... et... him.. like this,... right?"

After getting drunk, her speech was slow. A bit too slow.

Vernon did not know if he should be happy that Helena could at least understand his questions and could answer him correctly or if he should be sad that their ’mission’ had faced obstacles before it could even start.

Vernon looked at Helena, who had already closed her eyes and started to doze off in his arms, and sighed.

What should he do now?

He can’t go and et the commissioner alone, right? He didn’t mind eting him, but where could he place Helena in this condition?

After knowing what had happened to her previously because of Leon, he did not even dare to think of leaving her anywhere alone.

If he wanted to send a ssage to the commissioner, he did not trust anyone enough to divulge Helena’s secrets.

This matter was even kept a secret from her father. How could he casually talk about that to anyone else?

He took a deep breath and pulled her along to the parking lot.

It is better to go ho right now. He did not see any other option.

"Vernon? Helena? Is that you?" Vernon heard a voice and stopped to look.

"Grace?" It was a bit dark in the parking lot. So, he couldn’t quite make out her outline, so he asked in doubt, trying to identify her from her voice.

"Yes, it’s . What happened to Helena? Is she fine?" Grace asked with worry when she saw her lying on Vernon’s shoulder.

"Yeah. She is just drunk," Vernon answered.

"Drunk? But Helena never drinks. How can she get drunk?" Grace asked as she took a step towards Helena to take a closer look at her.

"Well, we thought it was apple juice, and it just happened," Vernon felt embarrassed.

After all, he was the one who gave Helena the drink. He did not realize that it was alcohol and not apple juice.

He felt stupid for not noticing.

Grace did not seem to notice his embarrassnt and nodded, "Oh. Do you need any help? Or can you handle her alone?"

Vernon nodded and then shook his head.

He almost accepted her help but when he looked at her face, he couldn’t help but recall the scene where Helena had once spiked Grace’s drink in his previous life.

He did not know what grudge the two friends hold against each other or why they will turn against each other in the future but he doesn’t want to take any risks with Helena right now.

So he decided to stay away from Grace and most importantly keep Helena away from Grace, "Thank you. But I will handle her. You go inside. I think everyone must be waiting for you as well. Bye."

"Okay, bye. Take care of her," Grace smiled and entered the venue casually.

Vernon looked at her back and frowned.

No matter how he looked at her right now, she did not look like she had anything against Helena right now.

But then again, her words when they t Tristan at the restaurant did not sound as innocent as she made them out to be either.

Vernon lowered his head, sighed and shook his head.

he turned to look at his wife in his arms.

He is a loser who couldn’t even understand his wife of ten years. How could he understand what so woman was thinking? There is no way and he had no choice but to accept that fact.

He saw that Helena was sleeping in his arms and sighed. He used both his arms to carry her horizontally and walked towards his car.

Just as he placed her inside the car and closed the door, he saw a car approaching.

The car was parked right beside his and he saw a man of great stature getting down from behind.

When Vernon saw his face, he imdiately knew who he was. He was the man who they ca to this party for.

It was the Police Commissioner.

"Sir," Vernon greeted him respectfully.

The middle aged man nodded and was about to walk away but Vernon stopped him.

"Sir, I need to talk to you about sothing."

The commissioner frowned, "What is it?"

"Actually it wasn’t but my wife. But she was not in a position to talk to you. I hope you don’t mind. Let introduce myself. I am Vernon. Vernon Jeffery. My wife’s na is Helena Ford. She is the daughter of..."

"Helena Ford?" The commissioner interrupted him when he heard Helena’s na.

Vernon nodded, "yes."

"How is she coping with her mother’s loss? I wanted to visit her funeral but I had to take care of sothing and was unable to attend. Is the child, Helena, okay? Is she doing fine?" From his words and tone, one could see that the man was genuinely concerned about Helena.

Vernon sighed and shook his head. He doesn’t want to lie and say that Helena was doing fine. Since her mother’s death, she is broken from the inside.

Even though she was pretending to be fine in front of everyone, in this life, Vernon finally understood how much broken she was.

Seeing his expression, the commissioner clearly understood. He sighed, "Well, I sort of expected this already. Her mother had told how strong the bond between her and her daughter was. It is only inevitable that Helena wouldn’t be able to accept this situation just like that.

"Sigh! Anyway, what did you and Helena want to talk to about?"

Vernon straightened his back at the ntion of the main topic.

He cleared his throat and looked around to see if there was anyone. He took a step closer to the commissioner and whispered, "It’s about what she was investigating before the incident. Helena wanted more details as she wanted to fulfill her mother’s last wish."

The commissioner pursed his lips and did not speak imdiately.
