Vernon knew he was impulsive when he implented that plan. Now he had to face the consequences of his actions.
When he looked at Helena, he saw her face turn dark.
He blinked his eyes. On one hand, he felt bad for her. But on the other hand, he felt he should use this matter to make her divorce him.
In a second, he saw Helena’s expression turned back to normal.
She sighed and smiled as she looked at Vernon and then at Grace.
Vernon frowned. What was she smiling about?
He could hear her inner voice, [Uff this stupid man. I don’t know what he was thinking when doing all that. Anyway, I should take care of him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t even know how the others would count his bones.]
"..." (Huh? What does she an by that? Also, she is caring about ? Even after I did such a thing to her in front of everyone?)
He couldn’t believe his ears at all. She called him a stupid man, yes. However, with how she continued her monologue, it sounded more like she was doting on him than scolding him.
But, how could that be?
(No, no. I should be mistaken. There is sothing wrong with my ears. Yes, That’s all.)
As he was thinking that, he felt her hand around his arm once again as she chuckled and spoke to Grace, "Yeah, Vernon had a weird sense of humor. He thought of playing a prank on by doing all that stunt at our wedding.
"When I learned that it was all a prank, I was really angry at him and even bashed him. Almost all of our wedding night had gone by with scolding him and him apologizing to . Seriously, I wonder where he got his sense of humor from. How did he think that such a scene could be treated as a prank?"
She then even playfully glared at Vernon and even pinched his waist in front of everyone showing she was still angry at him for his actions.
She was punishing him in front of everyone. But everyone could also see that the punishnt was from a wife to a husband. A normally playful couple who fought once in a while.
The fight did not look serious at all. After all, which couple wouldn’t fight once in a while?
So, her actions only looked like a display of affection but not any serious fight between a couple that wanted to separate.
If Vernon had done sothing really wrong to Helena, there is no way she would let her husband be just by pinching him in front of outsiders, right?
What did it show? It ant Helena wasn’t angry. Which implied that Vernon had done nothing wrong to her at all. So that woman wasn’t pregnant in the first place.
Just like that, Helena had handled the matter for Vernon.
The entire scene which beca the talk of the town in the entire upper-class circle had turned into nothing but a casual prank made by the playful husband on his wife.
"What? You an that woman wasn’t pregnant at all?" Grace lost her composure and asked in a high-pitched voice.
Vernon felt Helena’s fingers twitch over his arm and looked at her face. She was frowning. [Why is Grace behaving like that? So weird. Why does she look like she was sad that there wasn’t any trouble in my marriage? She wanted Vernon to cheat on ? No, no. Maybe I am thinking wrongly. She is my best friend. How could she think anything bad should happen to ?]
After listening to Helena’s thoughts, he too started to doubt Grace’s intentions and frowned.
Helena asked, "What happened, Grace? Why are you asking like that? Your tone sounds very weird. Are you unhappy that Vernon did not cheat on ?"
Vernon looked at Helena in surprise.
He did not expect Helena to ask Grace directly as soon as she doubted her.
Was it because he was looking at Helena in a bad light that he thought she wouldn’t ask Grace anything and would just keep it in her heart? He even thought that she might do sothing against Grace later to co back at her.
Shouldn’t that be how a ’scheming woman’ behaves? How could any ’scheming woman’ ask such questions directly?
Helena didn’t know what her husband was thinking nor did she care at the mont. She was looking at her best friend and was awaiting her answer.
"What? No. Helena, how could that be? I never thought that Vernon would cheat on you. Didn’t he say that day that he made a drunken mistake? I just thought that since he said those words himself, they should be the truth of the matter. I didn’t expect there would be sothing else behind this. I was just shocked for a mont and my voice might have gone out of control. That’s all. I am just happy that there will be no troubles in your married life. That was what I could ever hope for you as your good friend," Grace smiled as she explained calmly.
The calm in her voice and expression showed her true emotions.
Helena smiled and nodded, "Thank you. Maybe your wishes helped co out of this hurdle."
Grace was Helena’s bridesmaid during her wedding. So she had heard Vernon’s words more clearly than anyone else sitting in the audience.
So, it was only natural that she would think Vernon had really made a woman pregnant after listening to his direct confession.
Helena did not think anything more and smiled as she greeted Tristan and Grace goodbye and left the place with Vernon, hand in hand.
The place they t was a high-end restaurant. All of them t in the middle of the restaurant and there were many other custors around.
Most of the custors there had already heard what had happened during their wedding, even if they had not attended it. So, they were curiously watching the show from the sidelines.
