Chapter 134: Chapter 133: Moonlit Dreams

The next evening unfolded beneath a sky washed in silver, where the moon hung high above the Imperial City like a silent witness to everything that stirred below. Its light was neither harsh nor dim, but carried a quiet clarity that seed to seep into every corner of the sprawling capital. The rooftops glead faintly, the towers shimred with pale radiance, and even the winding streets reflected a softened brilliance that made the entire city feel like sothing caught between reality and dream.

Yet beneath that tranquil glow, sothing subtle had shifted.

The city was quieter—not in sound, but in intention.

The streets were still alive, filled with rchants, travelers, nobles, and guards moving through their routines, yet conversations had changed. Voices lowered more often than usual, glances lingered longer than necessary, and whispers passed between groups like invisible threads weaving a pattern no one could fully see.

Rumors had begun to take root.

They did not spread loudly, nor did they carry complete truths, but they existed—fragnted, distorted, and yet undeniably present.

The academy champion.

The unknown young tar whose rise had defied expectation.

Lady Liora’s personal visit to the Celestial Crown Pavilion.

The Crown Prince’s uncharacteristic silence following a failed confrontation.

Each rumor alone ant little.

Together, they created sothing else.

Attention.

And attention, in a city like this, was never harmless.

Eyes had begun to turn.

Not openly.

Not obviously.

But steadily.

And though no one yet understood the full picture, many had already begun watching.

Waiting.

Inside the Celestial Crown Pavilion, however, the outside world felt distant.

The thick walls, layered with subtle protective formations, insulated the interior not just from physical disturbance but from the restless currents of influence that flowed through the capital. Within Aether’s chamber, the noise of the city faded into sothing indistinct, like the mory of a distant storm.

What remained was stillness.

A stillness that was not empty, but deliberate.

Tonight was not about rumors, politics, or watching eyes.

Tonight was about evolution.

A asured knock sounded against the door.

It was not loud, nor hesitant, but carried a precise rhythm that spoke of confidence rather than formality.

Before the servant stationed outside could announce the visitor, the door opened.

Liora stepped inside.

Her presence entered the room with the sa effortless composure she always carried, yet sothing about her felt different. It was not her posture, which remained elegant, nor her expression, which remained calm and controlled—but the distance she typically maintained had lessened, if only slightly.

It was not sothing most would notice.

But Aether did.

At her shoulder hovered the Celestial Fate Butterfly.

Its transford form radiated quiet brilliance, the six layered wings unfolding slowly as it entered the room, releasing soft golden particles that drifted through the air like fragnts of light. The atmosphere shifted instantly in response to its presence, becoming calr, more balanced, as though the very space recognized its authority.

The Fla Sovereign Pup, who had been lying near the window, imdiately lifted its head, its ears perking up as its sharp eyes focused on the newcor. The Spirit Fairy drifted closer, circling curiously, its glow flickering with interest.

The Fallen Succubus, however, simply narrowed her eyes slightly.

"You improved quickly," she remarked, her tone carrying both amusent and genuine curiosity. "That evolution was barely completed, and already its aura feels more stable than most newly evolved beasts."

The butterfly ignored her entirely, its attention remaining with Liora.

Liora stepped further into the room, her gaze briefly sweeping across the surroundings. There was sothing unusual about the atmosphere here—sothing she had not fully registered the previous night.

It felt... natural.

Not in the sense of ordinary comfort, but in the sense that the space itself seed aligned, as if everything within it existed in quiet harmony.

It was not sothing created by decoration or luxury.

It was sothing else.

Sothing tied to Aether.

The realization unsettled her more than she expected.

Because she was beginning to feel... familiar here.

And that, more than anything else, was unexpected.

Without speaking, she raised her hand.

A second summoning sigil ford before her, this one different from the previous—softer, tinged with silver light that shimred like reflected moonlight on still water.

The sigil expanded slowly, its edges dissolving into fine particles before collapsing inward.

From that collapsing light—

A small figure appeared.

A rabbit-like beast hopped lightly onto the polished floor.

The Dream Bunny.

Its snow-white fur seed to absorb and reflect the ambient light at the sa ti, giving it an almost ethereal softness. Its long ears, tipped with faint pale blue, twitched as it took in its surroundings, while its bright, intelligent eyes scanned the room with quiet curiosity.

It circled once around Liora, then paused.

Its nose twitched.

And then—

It turned toward Aether.

Without hesitation, it hopped closer.

The Fallen Succubus let out a soft laugh.

"Well, that’s interesting," she said, watching the small creature approach. "It seems to have decided it likes you."

Liora’s expression tightened slightly, though it was subtle.

"That is unusual," she admitted. "It typically avoids unfamiliar people. It’s cautious by nature, and rarely approaches anyone without reason."

Aether looked at the small creature as it stopped a short distance away from him.

"I’m not unfamiliar anymore," he said calmly.

For a brief mont, Liora found herself without a response.

Because the statent was not incorrect.

And that realization lingered longer than she expected.

Aether moved to the center of the room and placed a single crystal vial on the ground.

Even before it was opened, the vial emitted a faint glow—soft, silvery, and undeniably pure.

Moondew Nectar.

The liquid inside resembled condensed moonlight, its surface shifting gently as if alive, reflecting the room not as it was, but as it might appear beneath a deeper, more dreamlike illumination.

The mont it was placed down, Dream Bunny’s attention sharpened.

Its ears stood upright.

Its eyes widened.

Then—

It sneezed.

A soft, almost comical sound broke the quiet atmosphere.

The Spirit Fairy let out a gentle chiming laugh, its glow flickering brightly.

Liora observed the interaction, her gaze shifting between Aether and the small beast.

"You appear more relaxed today," she said, her tone carrying a subtle note of observation rather than accusation.

Aether glanced at her briefly.

"You’re paying too much attention."

"And you avoid giving direct answers," she replied without hesitation.

From the side, the Fallen Succubus clapped slowly, her expression thoroughly entertained.

"This is far more interesting than the evolution itself," she said. "Please, continue."

Both ignored her.

Aether knelt in front of Dream Bunny, his movents steady and unhurried.

"This one has dual latent affinities," he said, his voice calm but precise. "Dream and Moon."

Liora’s eyes sharpened imdiately.

"Dual affinity?" she repeated. "That is not sothing easily detected, especially when one aspect remains dormant. Most tars would never realize it without prolonged observation."

Aether did not look at her.

"It’s visible if you know what to look for."

She stared at him.

That answer—

Was becoming increasingly unreasonable.

He extended his hand.

The vial rose into the air.

It opened without a sound.

Silver liquid lifted from within, forming a slow, flowing stream that hovered above Dream Bunny like a suspended crescent of light.

Then it descended.

The first reaction was imdiate.

Dream Bunny shivered.

Its fur glowed faintly, reflecting the descending liquid as it absorbed into its body.

Its ears stiffened.

Its entire posture shifted.

Then, unexpectedly, it leaped three tis in place, as if overwheld by a strange mixture of excitent and unfamiliar sensation.

The temperature in the room dropped.

Not sharply, but noticeably.

And then—

The moonlight outside changed.

It gathered.

Not physically, but perceptibly, as though the light itself was being drawn inward through the windows.

---

Liora stepped forward instinctively, her gaze lifting toward the source.

"The moon is responding?" she asked, unable to conceal the surprise in her voice.

Aether gave a single nod.

"Resonance," he said. "The affinity is aligning."

The silver mist thickened.

It wrapped around Dream Bunny, forming a cocoon that curved into a crescent shape, its surface shimring like liquid light.

Within it, shadows moved.

Not chaotic.

Not violent.

But shifting, as though sothing inside was being rewritten.

Then—

Sothing changed.

A faint blue glow appeared within the cocoon.

It pulsed once.

Then darkened.

Then returned to silver.

Liora’s expression sharpened instantly.

"That fluctuation—sothing is deviating," she said, her voice tightening slightly. "That was not part of a standard lunar evolution."

Aether remained still.

"It was always part of it," he replied calmly. "The dream affinity is reacting to the lunar energy."

The Fallen Succubus, who had been watching with interest, leaned forward slightly.

"...You expected that?" she asked, her tone shifting from amusent to curiosity.

Aether paused briefly.

"I expected improvent," he said. "This is better."

She narrowed her eyes.

The cocoon cracked.

A thin line of silver split across its surface.

Then another.

And another.

With a sudden burst of soft, radiant light, it shattered.

Fragnts of moonlight scattered across the room, dissolving into nothing before they could touch the ground.

And from within—

A new form erged.

The Moondream Hare.

Its body was larger, more refined, its proportions elongated into sothing both elegant and powerful. Its fur shimred with a silver-white sheen, catching the ambient light in shifting gradients that made it appear almost unreal.

Moon-like sigils traced along its ears and spine, glowing faintly with each movent.

Its eyes, now a deep violet, held an intelligence that had not existed before.

When it moved—

It left behind faint afterimages.

When it stood still—

It seed to blur at the edges.

The connection ford instantly.

Energy flowed between Liora and the evolved beast.

She closed her eyes as knowledge entered her mind, her breath catching slightly as the information settled.

When she opened them again, there was no mistaking the shift in her expression.

"This... it advanced directly to commander-tier capability," she said, her voice carrying disbelief. "That kind of leap—without instability—it’s not supposed to be possible."

Aether stood.

"It already had the foundation," he said. "It simply lacked the catalyst."

The Moondream Hare moved.

One mont it stood in front of Liora.

The next—

It vanished.

Then appeared at her shoulder.

Then behind Aether.

Then, inexplicably, standing atop the Fla Sovereign Pup’s head.

The pup froze for a second before letting out a sharp, indignant bark, flas flickering briefly around its body in irritation.

The room filled with laughter.

Even Liora.

Though she quickly regained her composure.

Too late.

Aether had already noticed.

Sothing had changed between them.

Not dramatically.

Not obviously.

But undeniably.

The rigid distance that had defined their earlier interactions had softened.

There was no declaration.

No shift in roles.

Just... ease.

They sat closer now.

Not across from each other, but at the sa table.

Liora no longer weighed every word before speaking.

Aether no longer viewed her solely as a useful ally.

"You’ve changed both of my beasts," she said quietly, her gaze lowering briefly to the Moondream Hare beside her.

"I showed them possibilities," Aether replied.

"You always say that."

"Because it remains true."

She looked at him for several seconds.

Then asked—

"Why?"

The question was simple.

But it carried weight.

Aether answered without hesitation.

"You are useful."

There was a pause.

Then—

Liora laughed.

A real laugh.

Brief, but genuine.

"That may be the worst explanation anyone has ever given ," she said, shaking her head slightly.

"It was not ant as praise."

"That makes it worse."

Far away, in the palace, Lion Solvaris traced a route across a map.

And quietly—

He began setting the stage.

Back in the pavilion, Liora stood at the door.

Her two evolved beasts remained at her side, their presence alone enough to shift the atmosphere.

"The academy will summon you soon," she said.

"In two days," Aether replied.

"I know."

She paused.

Then added, more quietly—

"Be careful on your return."

Aether noticed the phrasing.

Not a farewell.

Not a wish.

A warning.

"And you?" he asked.

She t his gaze.

"I will see you at the National Championship."

There was no hesitation in her voice.

Only certainty.

Then she left.

The door closed softly behind her.

The room grew quieter.

But not empty.

Aether turned toward the window.

The city still shimred under moonlight.

Beautiful.

Peaceful.

But beyond that light—

Paths were shifting.

Traps were forming.

And the next movent had already begun.
