Sunshine’s finger snapped up, pointing directly at Howard’s sweating forehead. "You. Since you’re so offended... you won’t mind eating so of my food, would you?"

She touched the fork and stabbed into a small piece of at. Then, she held it up, towards Howard. "Co on, just one bite. I promise, it won’t kill you."

Howard wiped cold sweat from his upper lip. "I... I’ve already eaten my fill. I have a sensitive stomach."

Hades waved his finger slowly from side to side, "Howard, all kings in history had poison testers. I am willing to look beyond your past betrayals and forgive you. All you have to do is take one bite."

Every eye in the room focused on Howard. The man sitting beside it nudged him forward. Howard pushed back, refusing to pick up the fork.

Sunshine stood up. The movent was slow and deliberate. She picked up her plate, walked around the long table, and placed it down with a heavy clack right in front of Howard.

"Eat," she whispered.

"You cannot make !" Howard hissed, his voice cracking. "I said I am full."

Sunshine leaned in, her eyes reflecting the flickering candlelight. "You have two choices, Howard Shaw. You eat that delicious al you prepared, or I put a bullet in your skull and use your brains as a side dish. Choose quickly. I’m getting impatient."

"Mark!" Howard wailed, looking toward the man for salvation.

Mark Walden didn’t look like a leader anymore. He looked like a man who wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole. He started to slide out of his chair; his eyes fixed on the exit. "I... I think there’s been a misunderstanding. What do you think we did here? We invited you into our ho, gave you food..."

Thud!

Hades was there before Mark could even straighten his knees. He slamd Mark back down into his seat with one hand, the force rattling the man’s teeth. "You will eat," Hades barked, his voice like grinding stones. He looked over at the rest of the Fortress Four team. "Feed them."

"Attack! Now!" Mark scread, his voice reaching a panicked soprano.

In the shadows of the hall, the hidden rcenaries_ the ones who had been waiting for the poison to take effect_ stepped forward. They were the most dangerous group, the heavy hitters. With a series of chanical whirs and clicks, they activated their exo-suits. tal plates slid into place, and hydraulics hissed as they prepared to storm the table. They felt invincible, much like the n in the mines who thought the Pri core stones would make them gods.

They had even laughed snidely when they realized that the Fortress four team had not co wearing their exo suits.

Sunshine didn’t even turn around.

"System," she said calmly. "Deactivate all exo suits."

[Yes host, Exo suits system override, deactivating now.]

A split second later, the room was filled with the sound of heavy tal hitting the floor. The rcenaries collapsed where they stood, pinned to the ground by their own equipnt, struggling like beetles flipped on their backs.

"System, lock them in there." Sunshine instructed further.

[Gladly.]

Nothing confused Mark more than what he was seeing. The advanced armor, that was ant to enhance their strength, suddenly beca dead weight_ hundreds of pounds of inert steel that was keeping his n prisoner.

"Get up you idiots!" He shouted.

"Sir, the suits are malfunctioning." One of them shouted back.

"We can’t move."

"Yes, we are stuck in here."

Sunshine smirked, eyes pinned on Mark. "That is what you get for stealing sothing that you do not understand. Those suits belong to , and I know how to use them against my enemies."

Mark blinked back hot anger, Howard had warned him about the maid being more dangerous than Hades, but he had not taken the warning seriously. His eyes kept darting to the door, hoping soone will co and rescue him_ sohow.

All of his n were pinned in place, weapons turned on them. Those with superpowers seed to be useless. In fact, they looked even more scared than he was.

"That back up is not coming so eat, Walden!" Hades growled.

Carson and Warren, moved in.

"I think he needs a little help." Carson said.

They grabbed Mark, pinning his arms to the gilded chair. Hades didn’t use a fork. He grabbed a handful of the poisoned at and shoved it into Mark’s mouth.

Mark thrashed, his eyes bulging. He tried to spit it out, crying through a mouthful of food, pleading that he was sorry, that he would give up the territory, that he would step down willingly.

Hades didn’t care for apologies. He pinched Mark’s nose shut, forcing the man to gasp for air. When Mark finally opened his throat to breathe, Hades shoved the rest of the al ho. Mark had no choice.

He swallowed.

Around the table, the scene was repeated. The Fortress Four squad, weary of the betrayals and the gas, showed no rcy. They fed the conspirators their own poisoned food, only the servers were spared.

One by one, the coughing started. Then the seizing. The mutated herbs were fast-acting_ viciously so. Mark Walden was the first to go. His eyes rolled back, his body slumped, his skin turned blueish-black and white foam poured from his mouth.

Within seconds, his last breath was drawn, and it was a pathetic wheeze of regret.

Howard followed shortly after, his face turning a sickly shade of blueish-black before he hit the floor with a dull thud.

Soon, the only sound in the room was the hum of the dying chandeliers. The rcenaries were still trapped in their suits, watching in horror as their employers turned into corpses.

Sunshine walked back to the head of the table. She looked at the carnage, then at the terrified servers hiding under the tables. She picked up a clean, poison free apple from a decorative bowl in the center of the table and took a crisp, loud bite.

She chewed slowly, looking at Hades, who was wiping his hands on a discarded silk napkin.

"Well," Sunshine said, a small, dark smirk playing on her lips. "I think the dinner went rather well. "Babel is entirely ours now."
