Cradling an obviously pregnancy belly, Denise waddled to a bunker as quickly as she could. At eight months pregnant, she was slower than she used to be. Even the smallest movents were a struggle. Bust she had urgent news to give Cassius. News that could not wait.

When she found him, Cassius was on his fourth glass of brandy since morning. He was scratching away at the so called lucky bracelet, trying to figure it out as always. Nothing mattered to him more than the bracelet and Sunshine.

But, he spared monts to enjoy sexual relationships with so of the won around him. His harem had three won currently. Denise was one, the second was Aliya Gibson, a pyrokinetic and the third was Glenna Green, the daughter of a wealthy businessman Dante Green who commanded authority among the rich that were living in bunkers under the town.

Even Strauss had to lower his head before Dante.

Ever since Glenna beca Cassius’ woman, the head lowering beca unnecessary. Especially because Glenna was pregnant.

Denise pulled the glass of brandy out Cassius’ hands, "We have a problem," she hissed.

Cassius looked up, irritated and yet steady at the sa ti. "Oh..." he replied in an uninterested voice.

"Cassius," She slapped her hands on the table, "Were you aware that your father got married?"

He took his eyes back to the bracelet, obviously bored. His father’s relationship status was of no concern to him. "His life, his choice."

"Is the stupid bracelet all you care about?" she asked, tense and loud. "Do you know who he married? He married her. He did not just marry anyone, he married Moon."

Cassius froze. The bracelet slipped out of his hands and he finally gave all of his attention to Denise. He hated that na. The owner of the na even more. Moon Raine, the cunning woman who had ripped him away from Sunshine, stolen so of his wealth, burned him with water, hit him when she did not get what she wanted from him and finally abandoned him in the Rainhounds mountain.

He never thought that they would cross paths again. He had been hopeful that maybe she had crossed soone that had the guts to finish her off. How could she resurface in his life in such a disgusting way?

Denise’s eyes searched his face. She wanted to see what his thoughts were. On one hand, she was worried that he would take Moon back, which would be a threat to her position as his first wife. On the other hand, she was worried that Moon would use her influence over Peter to strip them of the privileges they had been enjoying.

The other won could survive without them because they had family or superpowers to fall back on. She had nothing. "I told you to look into the rumors of your father’s secret romantic relationship as soon as they surfaced. You just kept scratching and testing that stupid bracelet. I had to take matters into my own hands and poke around. If I had not, maybe we would not have known until she killed us off or gave you a little brother. It is her Cassius. Her presence explains how father was able to prepare for the frost stones and predict when the sun would show up. She’s back. And she is your mother."

Cassius’s jaw tightened. "My father is too old to have another child."

"He is like sixty!" Denise shouted. "I have heard of eighty year old n that had babies. And that is not the biggest problem we have right now. Your old man has lost his mind. How could he marry your ex-wife?"

Cassius grimaced. "Technically, she is still my wife."

Denise sat in a chair, parting her legs while fanning herself with her right hand. "I am too fucking heavy for this drama. What the hell are we going to do at dinner? What was your father thinking? You should go and make him divorce her. He should throw her out....." She paused, "No, she cannot be thrown out of the base. We should lock her up in a bunker and make her tell us all she knows about this apocalypse. That bitch only reveals what the next disaster is. Not what we should expect through all the years of the apocalypse. She truly is a cunning snake."

Cassius stood up rapidly and stord out of the bunker, leaving behind a confused Denise.

"Where are you going?" she scread.

He did not respond.

Twenty minutes later, Cassius stord into the command center where his father was holding a eting, discussing how to combat the heat disasters. His father was seated in the seat of authority at the center, a cigar smoldering in his hand. Moon was not in the room.

"Father, what were you thinking?" Cassius started the confrontation imdiately.

Peter looked up and gestured for everyone to leave.

Then, calm as ever, he replied, "I suppose this has sothing to do with my marriage. Let guess, Denise told you."

Cassius narrowed his eyes at his father.

Strauss laughed. "There are not many well dressed pregnant won running from Moon’s apartnt to your bunker."

"She is my wife." Cassius roared. "You married my wife. The woman that left for dead and treated cruelly."

Peter exhaled smoke, unbothered. "Ex-wife. She tells everyone that she is a widow and you also want nothing to do with her. So, let’s refer to her as your ex-wife. And not many people know about your marriage to her as it happened a few weeks to the beginning of the apocalypse. It was not exactly blasted all over the news like Hades and his babysitter. So, lets keep that bit on the down low, as you kids say."

Cassius slamd his fist against the desk. "This is not the kind of news that can be kept on the down low old man. And she is still my legal wife. Why did you marry her of all the won in this shelter? Don’t you care about or the pain she inflicted on ?"

Peter narrowed his eyes, sharp as a blade. "Not everything is about you Cassius. All these years of planning for you and yet you still underestimate son. Have you forgotten that Moon is not just any woman? She is a source of information. A gold mine that we can dig slowly for survival. She knows all the power players, awakened or not.

She knows what businesses thrived and during which disaster. She knows secrets, poisons and most importantly, Crosstown. She lived here when the town thrived, she told so herself.

I thought the whole rebirth thing was crazy but she proved it when she predicted the frost stones and gave seeds that can boost the abilities of a superhuman.

We both know that she has other things. Things that she is keeping to herself. Things I can coax out of her by pandering to her vanity and giving her a little power. By marrying her, I gain access to everything she knows."

Cassius laughed harshly, shock all over his face. "Old man, you actually planned this all along. All those questions about Moon, her preferences, habits and the rest of the information you squeezed out of . You were preparing yourself for this. To marry her!"
