Beyond the fortress’s walls, the world had beco desolate. It was only a day after the teor shower, yet the city had been reduced to ashes and fallen buildings, and trees. The red mist blocked the sun, turning everything sky red.

Miles away, the view remained the sa, so of the structures remaining were burnt and barely holding up. There was no sign of birds chirping or insects, nor were there any sounds of animals, the deep forest had been reduced to nothing but charcoal and ashes.

Growls echoed through the air, scattered across the land, and were the infected. Their movents were fast and animalistic, and dried and wet blood clung to their face and bodies. They scavenged the earth looking for their next prey.

Outside the Luxebridge city, stood a hotel with a well-fortified wall. The hotel was untouched, although the surroundings couldn’t be said to be the sa.

Beyond the hotel’s walls were the infected roaming around, their snarls and growls rumbling through the air as they tried to climb the wall.

But the mont they touched the wall, they were instantly electrified, and the soldiers in heavy protective suits and masks stood close to the gate, shooting down the infected that managed to climb over.

Inside the hotel, the refugees were assigned different rooms, depending on their usefulness. The most useless ones, with no reasonable contribution, were given the first and second floor. While the elites remained in the basent.

Soldiers patrolled every floor, their eyes fixated on the elevator and the entrance stairs with an expressionless face.

anwhile, under the hotel, another whole world was bustling. Only the severance cult and extrely important people were allowed to reside in the basent.

The basent was huge, and was like a small town of its own, with its space larger than that of the hotel’s periter. They were different sectors; the engineering sector, the dical and research sector, the security sector, and the training sector.

At the entrance of the basent was a huge tal gate with reinforced steel and alloys. The floor was spotless and everyone moved with practised steps.

Mack sat in the control room, his eyes scanning the monitoring screen like a hawk. "It is only a day after the teor shower, what are those things?" He asked, pointing at the infected.

Camile bent over the table beside him, her eyes widened at the movents on the screen the mont her gaze fell on the creatures. "Those... those are the infected." She said calmly.

Her fingers tightened around the table. The infected weren’t supposed to appear yet, they had only appeared a week after the teor shower, and their behaviour wasn’t as animalistic as it was now.

"They can only be killed with their heads cut off, and a bullet to their head," Camile added.

Hearing her words, Mack imdiately leaned over the table. "Shoot them in the fucking head and don’t waste my bullets." He yelled over the comm.

"Yes, boss." The soldiers responded through the pods connected to their ears.

Camile stared at Mack. "Mack, the supplies won’t last more than five months at this rate. We definitely can’t access the other base to bring more supplies for now, the people..."

Mack glanced at her, already gasping the aning behind her words. "You don’t have to worry about that, and you are right, going to the other base to transport food is not advisable as the distance is too far." He paused, and a dangerous glint flashed through his eyes.

"As for the people, it is ti for them to show their loyalty and usefulness." He added.

"What do you an?" Camile asked.

"The internet across the country has been destroyed across the world, we can’t reach other people except the people in our base... to be able to get the upper hand in this crisis, we need to build our own communication line across the cities. And that is where the people co in, they don’t expect us to feed them for nothing." Mack said, his finger drumming leisurely on the table, his gaze was distant as if he was already imagining a world where he would be revered above all.

"That is a good idea. But before that, to optimize the best result I think it would be more beneficial to teach them about basic things they need to know about the infected, and of course, we need to train them." She added.

Mack nodded his head. "That’s a good thought. Let them know they only get to eat depending on the points they acquire from the missions completed."

"Sure." Camile turned to leave but she stopped midway. "Mack, I think we might as well create a scavenging group."

"This soon?"

"Yes, think about it, if we managed to place our communication line in an area near a supermarket, then the scavenging group’s duty is to bring all the supplies they can back to the group. That is the only way we can last what is coming." She said, her gaze turning serious.

Mack stared at her with intrigue. "Camile, you really are a smart lady, working with you is one of the best choices I have made." He said with a smile, that made her stomach knot with nervousness.

"What do you an by what is coming? Isn’t this the apocalypse you warned about?" Mack added, before rising to his feet. He leaned closer to her. "Don’t tell you are still hiding so information from ."

"I don’t intend to hide anything from you, but seeing how things are happening so fast... I think the great hunt is almost here." Camile stamred as fear flashed across her face.

Mack placed his hand gently on her shoulder. "So you are saying sothing greater than the teor shower and red mist is coming, and it is the great hunt? Tell more about it." He said, his fingers pressed her shoulder with a little pressure.

"The great hunt started with the beastfall... these beasts are terrifying and blood thirsty, ravaging anything in their paths," Camile said, her eyes a little distant and clouded in fear as if she was reliving those monts.
