A burning rock split the sky, descending with great montum.
His lips trembled before he began crying.
"Mama!"
Chris, who was helping the people who had fallen back to their feet, saw the boy standing in the middle of the chaos.
Without thinking twice, he pulled a man back to his feet before rushing towards the boy. With a swift movent, he lifted him off the ground, carrying him towards the direction of the basent.
Ling Xuan rushed behind them making sure no one was left behind.
anwhile outside the inner wall of the fortress, Jade was struggling with the two guards inside the pickup van.
"She was just putting up a front because of the crowd. I am a Wayne if you throw out, you’ll regret it." She barked.
The soldier’s face remained stoic, as if her words were like a buzzing fly.
A look of dread swirled in her eyes. She glanced behind, staring through the back window at the van, and the inner wall grew farther and farther.
Her hands tightened slightly. Were they going to throw her out? But... She definitely can not survive out there.
’Laurel, a dog picked from the streets wants to bite the hand that fed it... I’ll make you pay for this humiliation, and make everyone see your true colour.’
She clenched her fist tightly by her side.
As they approached the gate, the blaring sound of an ergency sliced through the air. The driver quickly hit the brakes.
Before any of them could tell what the ergency was, the sky was already red, as if it were painted with blood.
Jade’s mouth opened in terror, "Drive back... reverse the fucking damn car!" Her scream tore through the roof of the van.
One of the soldiers beside her, clasped his hand over her mouth.
"What should we do? Should we open the gate and drop her outside, or should we return to the inner city? That is the ergency sound for evacuation." The soldier with red ginger hair said, his hand tightening over Jade’s mouth, turning her words to muffled noise.
The soldier driving contemplated for a while before speaking. "We head back."
Without waiting for the others’ opinion, he turned around and headed back to the nearest basent in his location.
"What are you doing, Jimmy?" The ginger red soldier said, his eyes narrowing.
"Following protocol, Andrew. According to protocol 102 soldiers must return to the base the mont they hear the ergency alarm." Jimmy replied.
"Protocol 35 states that soldiers must follow the commander’s order without any negligence no matter the circumstances." Andrew shot back.
The other soldier at the right stared at both his colleagues, deciding to sit this one out.
"Oh my fucking god, what the hell is that?" Jimmy shouted, before hitting the gas. The van sped so fast that it left dust in its wake.
Jade’s eyes moved between the soldiers, to and fro. It was like she had beco invisible in the argunt.
She wanted to speak but the hand over her mouth made it difficult to move. She tilted her head back before opening her mouth wide, digging her teeth into his flesh.
"Argh... fucking bitch!" Andrew cursed, his hand already clenching into a fist. He glared at Jade, biting his lower lip to suppress his anger.
"Andrew! Isn’t that a fucking teor rock! Because that is no fucking teor shower!" Jimmy yelled, he felt like he was racing against death.
Jade tossed between the two soldiers beside her like a tennis ball. If she didn’t die from the incoming teor rock, she was definitely going to die from the reckless driving.
...
anwhile, Ling Xuan stood in front of the basent, with the soldiers. Their eyes were stern and alert as they watched the teor rocks crashing towards the earth.
One of the soldiers stepped forward. "Commander, you should join the others in safety. We will do our best to protect you all." He said politely.
Ling Xuan glanced at him. "You shouldn’t worry about ." Her gaze beca stern, her fingers wrapping tightly around her sword.
The other soldiers around them cast her a glance mixed with skepticism and a little bit of respect.
"Where did you get the sword from?" Gabriel, who was standing next to Ling Xuan, asked as he had not seen her take the sword out.
Ling Xuan ignored him.
"Ling Xuan, I’ll see what I can do from here." Laurel’s voice echoed in her head.
"Whatever you want to do, do it fast." Ling Xuan muttered under her breath, as she stared at the teor rock crashing into the earth miles away from them.
Although the location was far from them, the shockwave from the impact sent tremors throughout the fortress.
Inside the space, Laurel called the system. "System."
[Yes Host.]
"I want to trade for any device that could protect the fortress from the teor shower." She said, her fingers tapping against her lap in impatience.
In her past life, the Vile Valley wasn’t affected by the teor shower for a strange reason. But she couldn’t place all her belief in her mories. After all, the teor shower ca two weeks earlier than the real tiline, and that ant there were more variables now than before.
And she couldn’t rely on her mories.
[Searching for protective devices across dinsions]
Laurel’s heart skittered in her chest as the system was taking too long to find any devices.
[Protective devices located across different dinsions;
Light Spectrum: Ability to generate a high-intensity refractive shield capable of redirecting descending attacks. Effective imdiately upon deploynt, but requires a continuous energy core. If the core is depleted, the shield collapses without warning.
Stone Pillar Array: A triple stone pillar defense system designed to suppress kinetic force within a designated territory. Reduces impact damage by up to eighty percent, and installation requires stable ground anchors. Structural failure may occur if impacts exceed tolerance thresholds.
Worldroot Barrier Seed: A living defensive organism capable of generating a territory-scale barrier once planted. The seed extends an underground root network that stabilizes the land and disperses shockwaves. Barrier strength increases with hydration levels and soil nutrients. Insufficient watering will weaken structural integrity.
Which one do you want?]
Laurel’s gaze locked onto the final option.
"A seed..." she murmured.
"I want the worldroot barrier seed," Laurel said quickly, but she paused, what if it needs ti to grow and mature?
[Worldroot Barrier seed grows imdiately after it is planted.]
Laurel let out a sigh she didn’t realise she had been holding. "What does the other trader want in return?"
[The other trader wants a grade B dicinal plant; Snow Lotus.]
"Snow Lotus? What is that?" She asked anxiously, her legs tapping against the floor in worry.
[A rare plant that survives in the mist.]
"But I don’t have it now."
[The other trader is willing to wait for a month... you just have to give him two of the dicinal herbs]
"What if I can’t find it?"
[System penalty activates; The other trader may forcibly collects anything from your storage... without any limits to what he chooses.]
Laurel shook her head, she wouldn’t take that risk.
"Laurel, hurry up, a teor rock is heading towards us." Ling Xuan’s voice cut through the last bit of senses in her head.
