Laurel’s fingers clenched around the sheets of her bed. "Get out."
Alexander nodded his head in disappointnt before turning in anger and walking out the door. The sound of the door slamming closed made shivers run down her spine.
She let out a deep breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding, her heart pounded in her ears. It was only now that she was feeling her body’s reaction as the adrenaline rushing through began to fade.
She dragged her hand down her face, fatigue creeping up her face. She sighed in exasperation before climbing down to grab a cup of water... However, her feet collided with a tal that shouldn’t be there.
"Ahh..damn it." She cried, trying to muffle her voice.
Her eyes snapped back to the culprit, and a genuine look of confusion marred her face. The culprit was none other than a white robot about 5 tres tall. On its face was attached a note "Turn on."
Laurel frowned at the note, "Turn on?" She repeated as a soft pink hue tilted her cheeks, she ntally chided herself at how corrupted her mind was.
She tore the paper away from its face, and a look of dread flickered through her face, but she pushed down the feeling, and turned on the robot.
"Hi Laurel, I’m Alpha 5078, specially modified to assist you by your wonderful husband Alexander Wayne."
The robot said the mont it finished rebooting.
In her past life, the robot was Alexander’s closest companion, and although it was helpful and smart, that wasn’t its only job... Its main job was monitoring and saving data. It was a great help to them in her past life, however, he suddenly gifted her his best work... doesn’t that an he wanted to keep an eye on her?
Before the robot could continue speaking, Laurel quickly turned it off.
She inhaled deeply, wondering why the trouble was piling up on her. She glanced at her from her side eye while pouring herself a cup of water.
She imdiately went to her shower to wash up and after she got dressed, she stood in front of the robot again.
"You’re definitely going back." She muttered under her breath.
Then, the crop status panel on her wrist shimred with a blue light.
[Plant status: Crops seed health {80%}
Soil nutrient:
Moisture: 50%
Oxygen: 10%
Temperature: 34%
Evaluation: Crops require proper care.]
Laurel stared at the crop panel.
Eighty percent was not alarming yet, but it was not ideal either. The oxygen level was the bigger issue, ten percent ant the soil was too compacted, and if that continued, the roots would struggle before the sprouts even had a chance to mature.
Laurel lowered her wrist slowly after the crop panel faded away and stepped out of the building without glancing back at the robot.
Outside, the sky was still red and it wasn’t showing any sign of dissipating any ti soon.
She entered the jeep parked beside the Waynes building. And she imdiately drove outside the inner wall, heading straight to the farm land.
She wondered now that she had a new attribute to her healing powers, what difference would it make? In her past life she could heal other people, plants, and animals alike, but every ti she used her abilities she suffered a backlash where she would imdiately suffer the pain of the person she healed.
’Will the attributes make it possible to heal more people than in my previous life?... hmm... I can’t wait to try it out.’
The engine of the jeep rumbled to a stop when she got to the farm field. And Laurel stepped out of the jeep and she felt a little wave of dizziness and her stomach grumbled angrily.
"Commander," one of the farrs called out with visible relief.
The farrs in the field stopped whatever they were doing, yelling greetings at her.
Laurel waved at them from where she stood with a polite smile.
She turned to the farr who called her and nodded in response.
"How are the seedlings?" she asked as she made her way towards the section of the field covered with plant sprouts.
The man hesitated briefly before answering. "The radish and lettuce have started sprouting, but the sprouts lack colour, which ans they are not getting the required nutrients."
Laurel stepped into the field and crouched down. The radish rows showed the faintest pale stems pushing through the soil, thin and fragile. The lettuce shoots were similar, barely curved above the surface, and lacking color. She brushed the soil aside carefully and saw white threadlike roots beneath.
"They are lacking nutrients." She muttered under her breath in confirmation.
"We have tried to reach out to you since yesterday morning but we were told you were busy." The man said with a curious gaze.
"Oh... yeah I was a little busy." She replied.
’I have been out for days now? This ant my awakening took longer than before...’
It normally took two days for radish and lettuce to sprout.
Laurel pressed her fingers into the soil and lifted a small handful of soil. The soil clumped slightly before crumbling apart.
"The soil isn’t aerated and the oxygen level is too low for the plants," she said calmly, more to herself than to them.
The farrs exchanged looks.
"The soil was slightly dried yesterday, but we imdiately watered it," one admitted.
Laurel rose slowly.
"Prepare the irrigation channels," she instructed. "I’ll add sothing to the water to make the soil more suitable for the crops. Thank you for your hard work, I really appreciate it."
She walked away at an unhurried pace and turned into a blind angle between two storage sheds before calling the system, purchasing six barrels of space water.
Then, she stepped out of the corner requesting the farrs to pour the water into the stream which was connected to the field.
After the space water was poured inside the main stream feeding the field. She watched as it blended naturally into the irrigation channels.
"Release it gradually," she told them.
As the water spread across the rows, she remained standing at the edge, her gaze scanning the field.
