Chapter 879: 407 chapter_2

[I can take you to find it…]

[I can…]

But no matter how these little angel statues spoke, the old man only muttered to himself. He heard their voices, but chose to completely ignore them. It seed this indifference was etched into his very bones.

He lifted his head, and in just a brief mont, his eyes had beco bloodshot.

He desperately began searching for sothing. Finally, at the other end of the corridor, he vaguely caught sight of a figure leaning against a bookshelf—it was none other than Lin Yi in the Dream Study Sector on the first floor of the Library!

“Soone… is there?”

“That kid… huh, could it be that kid?!”

“Could it be him?!”

“Could it be him!!!”

At that very mont, Lin Yi in the Dream Study Sector also spotted his fleeting figure.

Very quickly, Lin Yi exited that state at the entrance of the corridor and began to leave…

“He’s leaving?”

“Wait, wait… how can he just leave like that?!”

“Don’t go, you mustn’t go!”

“What do I do, what do I do, what do I say?”

He kept tugging at his straw-like hair…

“I’ve got it! I’ve got it, I’ve got it!!”

Frantically, he pulled out an old, tattered notebook from his pocket and flipped through it incessantly. On the pages were scattered, nonsensical phrases like “Tomato is the heart” and bizarre doodles. Finally, he landed on a certain page.

He stared at so symbols on the page, gathered his emotions, and then slowly began to speak:

“『Når den svarte… månen vissner… komr sørgemoerne… tilbake fra det… uendelige dyphavet…』”

After reciting it twice, his speech beca steadier. He enunciated more clearly:

“『Når den svarte månen vissner… komr sørgemoerne tilbake fra det uendelige dyphavet…』”

His voice perated through the corridor, reaching Lin Yi’s ears. However, by then, it had already fragnted into disjointed pieces.

Lin Yi still turned and left.

Seeing this, the old man panicked and shouted in desperation, “Don’t go!! Don’t go!!”

He imdiately noticed the corridor starting to dissolve, and the “pathway” leading to the “Lawmaker’s Words” began to vanish as well.

“Not good! The ‘pathway’ is disappearing!”

“This won’t do, this won’t do…”

“Wait, he’s still in the Library! Still here!”

At this mont, a long, droning hum echoed, and the lights in the Library turned red. The old man seed to rember sothing suddenly and was struck by a jarring realization: “The first floor! He’s on the first floor! That bookshelf… that’s the layout of the first floor!”

He scrambled and dashed toward the elevator, his fingers spasmodically jabbing at the elevator buttons.

The elevator ascended slowly. As soon as the doors opened, he rushed in, panting and coughing violently, muttering repeatedly to himself phrases like “Don’t go, don’t go, wait for .”

When the elevator reached the first floor, the doors slid open, and he bolted out like a wolf only to clumsily fall to the ground.

Even so, he kept his eyes locked on the space ahead. However, all that greeted him was a dim expanse; Lin Yi had just left monts ago.

He collapsed onto the ground, exhausted, the light fading from his eyes, making him look even older.

“Missed it…”

“I missed it… just like that…”

“Cough cough…”

“Why… why…”

“The Security Guard usually stays for 15 minutes…”

“15 minutes… should’ve been enough ti to get down here… so why…”

“Why didn’t you wait for …”

“Cough cough cough…”

“I don’t have much ti left…”

“Cough… cough cough cough cough…”

He coughed violently, first covering his mouth, then clutching his chest.

As if sensing sothing, he reached into his chest and pulled out a badge.

The badge was sowhat faded, but the serial number could still be made out:

“Librarian-X0230302047.”

May 10, X023, 5:03 a.m., in an unknown, silent, dark expanse.

「Tap… tap… tap」

「Clink clink… clink clink…」

The sounds of footsteps and clinking chains echoed through the darkness, and gradually, a soft yellow glow erged from the void.

The Security Guard carried an old kerosene lamp, leading a chef in a black apron through the space. At the end of the chain trailed Zhao Lingxiao and Lin Yi.

The surrounding atmosphere was oppressively heavy. Light appeared to be a luxury here, with only the old kerosene lamp in the Security Guard’s hand illuminating a small, misshapen, distorted area around them.

Lin Yi gripped the chain cautiously, staying alert without activating his perception recklessly, afraid of causing unnecessary trouble.

He was extrely curious about this place but refrained from looking around. Instead, he mimicked the behavior of the chef in the black apron and Zhao Lingxiao in front of him, following the Security Guard like a lifeless puppet.

The scene carried an eerie resemblance to a surreal “corpse procession.”

With each step, Lin Yi could feel the ground beneath him writhing and undulating irregularly, as though it were alive. While staying focused, he instinctively used his peripheral vision to capture glimpses of the surroundings.

Because of the twisted space, the darkness, and the limitations of his peripheral vision, he couldn’t make out anything clearly—only vague, shadowy figures hovering around.

The shadows resembled clumps of mist materializing under the faint lamp light due to varying densities, shifting and warping like creased fabric.

Lin Yi could clearly hear Zhao Lingxiao’s breathing ahead of him and could faintly catch her scent. In this tense atmosphere, every tiny sensation seed magnified.

The sll on Zhao Lingxiao was peculiar—it was difficult for Lin Yi to associate it with anything familiar. Even if her inability to shower or sleep because of being a Dormitory Supervisor could explain it, he hadn’t noticed such a scent on her during their initial close contact.

After walking for a while, Lin Yi suddenly realized the ground beneath him was losing its “vitality” and gradually becoming more ordinary…

And in the oppressive darkness, faint sounds aside from their group began to erge.

「Rustle rustle…」

「Rustle rustle…」

It sounded like wind rustling through leaves.

Lin Yi abruptly felt as though sothing familiar had appeared next to him.

He wanted to glance at it but suppressed the urge with reason.

His peripheral vision caught sight of sothing that startled him.

A lamp post.

A leaning, abandoned lamp post.

“Green Forest Belt?” Lin Yi speculated internally. Could they have entered the Green Forest Belt?

Thinking of the Green Forest Belt reminded him of sothing Young Master Tian had said, which surfaced in his mind:

“After leaving the Cafeteria, I found the ‘Library-001’ lamp post and followed the general route on the campus map toward the Library. When I arrived at the ‘Library-102’ lamp post, what appeared before was… the Green Forest Belt.”

“Could this Green Forest Belt be the sa one Young Master Tian encountered before?” Lin Yi began to wonder. If so, could it an Young Master Tian had been right?

No, he couldn’t think like that… if that were true, they would need to re-verify if the ‘Student Code’ was accurate.

The “Student Code,” Rule #4:

[The coordinates of all buildings on the map are absolutely accurate, and all campus buildings are labeled accordingly. If you encounter any structures not shown on the map—especially the Art Building—do not panic. Mark the location on the map and report it to your Horoom teacher. Do not approach it.]

Although the “Student Code” was overly rigid, its significance seed to be growing…

Sure enough, Lin Yi noticed a faint light ahead on the road…

In the endless darkness, the light was like a lighthouse.
