Chapter 876: Chapter 406: Lin Yi… “Ashen Apostle”?
The security guard asked: “Do you have your Student ID card with you?”
The female dormitory supervisor replied: “I always carry it.”
The security guard nodded slightly: “Good.”
After saying that, he took the old kerosene lamp from the female dormitory supervisor’s hand. At the sa ti, he grabbed her left hand and rolled up her sleeve.
On her wrist was an identity credential, which was evidently her dormitory supervisor’s proof of identity. On the certificate, her number was faintly visible: “Dormitory Supervisor-36-X0230507012.”
The security guard spoke slowly, his authoritative voice carrying an indescribable kind of magic power: “I revoke your identity as ‘Dormitory Supervisor-36-X0230507012’. From this mont on, you will revert to the identity you had before becoming a dormitory supervisor.”
His words sounded like a decree. As he spoke, gray gas began to steam off the female dormitory supervisor’s body, like a piece of iron being quenched.
At the sa ti, Lin Yi heard a murmuring voice emanating from within the gray gas: “My na is Zhao Lingxiao, my Student ID card number is ‘X0230507012’, I am at the first-floor counter of the library, beside the security guard…”
“My na is Zhao Lingxiao, my Student ID card number is ‘X0230507012’, I…”
“My na is…”
As the gray gas dissipated, the female dormitory supervisor—no, Zhao Lingxiao—appeared before him.
Zhao Lingxiao didn’t look much different from how she did as the dormitory supervisor, but her presence felt far more lively, unlike the pale complexion and the unnervingly lifeless aura of the dormitory supervisor.
But there was one thing Lin Yi was slightly displeased about, albeit it seed reasonable—
The security guard said Zhao Lingxiao’s dormitory supervisor number had been “Dormitory Supervisor-36-X0230507012,” yet Zhao Lingxiao had told him in the elevator that it was “Dormitory Supervisor-33-X0230507012.”
Damn it, she had lied about the floor!
She had used the few tricks she had to deceive him!
Of course, it made sense.
But judging from this detail alone, Zhao Lingxiao might seem like a newbie with so crafty maneuvers, but in reality, her cunning went far beyond that—she was exceedingly sharp, hiding all her intricate sches within her frail appearance.
Looking at it this way, that confidentiality agreent business probably had its own layers of deception as well…
After all, if you signed a confidentiality agreent, how could you accidentally let sothing slip?
The only explanation was that she appeared careless and outspoken while actually being incredibly ticulous, perhaps even trying to extract so information from him.
Even her seemingly flirtatious deanor could well have been another façade!
Ask yourself—what kind of gentleman could remain fully vigilant against a frail young girl seemingly harboring amorous intentions?
It wasn’t until now that Lin Yi realized: this Zhao Lingxiao had utilized every possible advantage she had!
It was highly likely that the ti when she was chased by the Pseudo-Human had been deliberately engineered to find her way to him!
Otherwise, how could you explain her fearlessness against the Zealots, yet her apparent trepidation toward a Pseudo-Human?
Thinking of this, everything suddenly made sense to Lin Yi. What made it all the more unsettling, though, was that Zhao Lingxiao had co up with all this just from a brief elevator encounter with him?
Terrifying!
Absolutely terrifying!
At this mont, Zhao Lingxiao seed to sense Lin Yi’s penetrating gaze, as if that look would strip her bare to reveal her innermost self. Blinking her watery eyes, her curled lashes trembled softly: “W-what are you staring at like that for?”
Lin Yi scread internally, “Damned little monster! Were it not for the fact that I deciphered your plots, I would’ve easily been swayed by your delicate, innocent appearance!”
“Nothing…” he said in a shalessly insincere tone, “I’m just shocked you managed to leak so much of your, uh, ‘gas’ just now.”
“Get lost!!” Zhao Lingxiao snapped, revealing her true colors as she glared furiously at Lin Yi. “I didn’t know it would spray that much either!”
Lin Yi smirked and thought to himself that he’d now learned to scrutinize every punctuation in Zhao Lingxiao’s sentences before believing a single word she said.
At that mont, the security guard seed to sense sothing and spoke up: “It’s ti to leave.”
Without saying another word, he turned away and began walking back the way they had co.
As he turned, Lin Yi heard the sound of clanking chains. Upon closer inspection, Lin Yi saw that a jet-black iron chain extended from beneath the guard’s trench coat. The chain was thick, resembling those used to connect ship anchors.
The extended part of the chain was being gripped by the black-aproned chef.
Zhao Lingxiao followed behind the black-aproned chef, reaching out to grab a segnt of the chain.
Lin Yi quickly followed suit, mimicking Zhao Lingxiao by holding onto a segnt of the chain.
As soon as Lin Yi grabbed the chain, the security guard suddenly stopped.
“You’re planning to leave too?”
The security guard turned slightly, his sidelong glance holding a mountain-like pressure that bore down on Lin Yi.
“Uh… yes, I am,” Lin Yi nodded stiffly, “Am I not allowed to leave?”
“Not at all… I haven’t seen a ‘Ashen Apostle’ in so long; I thought you might choose to stay,” the security guard replied indifferently before continuing on his way.
“Ashen Apostle?” Lin Yi froze for a mont. Was he talking about Lin Yi?
But what did that an…
“Ashen Apostle…?” Upon hearing this, nearly all the black-aproned chefs turned to look at Lin Yi, which made Lin Yi feel a bit self-conscious.
Zhao Lingxiao also gazed at Lin Yi with curiosity.
Lin Yi pressed his lips together, feeling awkward and unnatural; even his toes curled inside his sneakers.
It wasn’t that he was thin-skinned—it was just that he was extrely reluctant to make introductions in such a candid manner when the mont so obviously called for ceremonial gravitas.
