The sll of burning sulphur tingled the inside of Riven’s nose; it burned the back of his throat. It was an unpleasant feeling, but it also made his mind leap for joy. Why? Because he wasn’t dead, maybe.
Suddenly, his ears were filled with the wailing sounds of people, or at least that’s what they sounded like.
He opened his eyes. His pupils burned the mont they were exposed; pain filled them. It was so dry he couldn’t even cry. He tried to blink, and it hurt like hell.
"Where am I?" He looked at the ceiling of the place he was in. It was made of black bricks, with arches going across from one side to the other.
"You are awake, finally." A deep and calm voice reached his ears. It was filled with confidence and power.
Imdiately, Riven got on his feet and looked up. There he saw a man in a perfect black suit, sitting behind an office desk at the end of a hall that looked like a throne room.
The man was pale like a dead body, with glowing red eyes and sharp features. He had neck-length hair, which he styled partially.
He looked at Riven with his sharp eyes. There was a quill in his hand, the tip on a piece of paper.
"Who are you? Where am I?" Riven asked.
"Calm down, Riven Von Grave, or should I say, Luke," the man spoke.
Riven’s eyes widened when he heard the na Luke. He looked at the man. "How did you know that na?" he asked.
"Don’t get heated up. I know all the nas of everyone that walks the world, even if you ca from another," the man said.
"That’s not explaining anything," Riven said and stretched out his hand in an attempt to summon Twilight, but nothing ca.
"Are you looking for your sword? Sadly, it’s not here. As a physical material, it cannot be brought with you here," the man said.
"What do you an? I have my clothes on, and they are physical," Riven argued.
"Hmm, good argunt. Fine." The man snapped his fingers, and Twilight appeared in front of Riven. He imdiately grabbed the sword.
"Still, having it is pointless. You can’t really use it against . After all, you can’t kill the one who rules death," the man said, a smile forming on his face.
"Death? What do you an, ’rule death’? Who exactly are you?" Riven asked.
"So know as the Grim Reaper, and so know as Death, but I’m just the King of Devils of this world," the man said with a smile on his face.
"The King of Devils? You are confusing ," Riven said.
"Fine, I’ll explain. In each world that exists, there is an afterlife, a stream of rebirth and hell, and I, the King of Devils, control what happens in the afterlife.
So basically, right now, you are in hell, Riven." The man spoke, his smile fully ford, his eyes glowing bright.
Questions imdiately filled Riven’s mind, not one, not a few, but many. So many that he couldn’t even voice his thoughts. He decided to take a deep breath and calm down.
He looked at the man. "King of Devils."
"Ah, just call Lucifer. I think that fits more," he said casually.
"Okay then, Lucifer. I’m confused. If you are a devil, then what are the demons that plague our world? And if I died, why didn’t I go through a trial to know my fate? Why did I wake up in hell? If you are a devil, that ans there are also gods."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Calm your horses down, kid. Everything will be answered one after another. Firstly, demons are not devils, but they are related. Demons harness the power of devils and use it as demonic energy.
They were created by on a whim after the goddess asked that I create a race. She had made many races, and I decided to make mine, in my image and likeness. So, I made the demons," Lucifer explained. He snapped his fingers, and an apple appeared. He bit into it and chewed.
"So you created the demons that attack us, that try to kill us?" Riven asked.
"Ohhhh? You said ’us’ like their world is really yours. Have you really beco part of this world? Forgotten where you ca from and all you loved from that world?" Lucifer asked.
"I have nothing I love in my world. I’m done with that world. I don’t want to go back," Riven said.
"Are you sure? I can make sure the stream of rebirth takes you back to Earth and gives you a rich and loving family, give you everything that you never had," Lucifer said and walked close. He showed Riven the apple he had bitten into.
"I can give you the sweetness you never got to experience. This world is filled with pain and torture, battles without end, swords and destruction.
You are only thirteen and at the beginning of your life, yet sohow you have killed more than many grown-ups. You have taken so many lives that you have gone numb.
You can be free, in a world where none of this will tie you down, Luke," Lucifer said before biting into the apple again.
"No thank you. I’d rather cease to exist than forget all I’ve been through and choose a new life. Noel, my family, everyone that has been with , they have stood for , and I owe it to them to rember them, even in death," Riven said.
"Ahhhh, you really have found a ho. Too bad death ca. But there is a way," Lucifer said, pulling Riven’s attention.
"You are not a normal being. Your soul exists on a sequence that even I have no real control over, and that makes you capable of disobeying certain rules of the world, like coming back to life.
So this is the offer: you’ll return back to Earth, I’ll take you back, but you have to do one favor for . Are you up for it?"
