Chapter 869: Chapter 435: President’s Inaugural Banquet_2 Chapter 869: Chapter 435: President’s Inaugural Banquet_2 David was no stranger to this woman, she was none other than the current Treasury Secretary of Arica, Jenny Yellen.
Speaking of which, in Arica, if one were to ask which departnt works most closely with the Internal Revenue Service, it would undoubtedly be the Treasury Departnt!
Even from a legal standpoint, the Treasury Departnt is, in theory, the supervisory departnt over the Internal Revenue Service.
Because theoretically, all the tax revenue collected by the IRS must be approved by the Treasury Departnt before it can be allocated to the various departnts or spent on various welfare benefits such as education and healthcare.
However, that was only in theory.
In reality, the IRS had a great deal of control over the funds that were collected.
The logic was simple, the Treasury Departnt was only responsible for the distribution of national financial funds, but it had no authority to investigate the tax revenue of the IRS.
For example, if the IRS had a grudge against the Treasury Departnt, then the tax revenue that was supposed to be 500 billion US dollars for the quarter could be reported as only 250 billion US dollars.
Or they could choke the Treasury Departnt by claiming that the funds from IRS offices across the country were not fully remitted.
And without enforcent powers, the Treasury Departnt was utterly helpless in the face of these tactics.
Therefore, the first thing every new Treasury Secretary did after taking office was to make a visit to the IRS to get acquainted with the high- and low-level officials there, which would make future work easier.
But coming back to the point, what could Jenny be doing here with Annie?
“Right, Inspector David, let introduce—”
“No need, hello Minister Yellan!”
David took the initiative to walk over, extending his right hand.
“Inspector David, I’ve also made many trips to your Tax Bureau recently, but unfortunately, I have not been able to et you. Today I finally get the chance!”
“I’ve been busy with business in New York lately, so my duties have been quite heavy…”
David didn’t bother to make any excuses.
In recent tis, he had indeed been busy with the midterm elections in New York.
“No problem, no problem…”
Yellen waved her hand dismissively, but still wore a smile.
“I wonder, what business does Minister Yellan have with ?”
Before Yellen could reply to his question, Annie snapped her fingers at a staff mber not far away.
The staff mber walked over and handed David a docunt from her bag.
“What is this…?”
“Inspector David, this is the Treasury Departnt’s various plans regarding the future revenue of the offshore tax evasion legislation. You can take a look in detail!”
Yellen explained.
David narrowed his eyes, but in the end, he took the docunt and began to examine it.
After about fifteen minutes, having finished reading, he closed the docunt, a pensive expression on his face.
He had to admit, the Treasury Departnt had acted quickly. It hadn’t been long since the offshore tax evasion legislation had passed, yet they had already drawn up so many plans.
It seed they had been eyeing this tax revenue for quite so ti.
Gathering his thoughts, David looked up at Yellen and said, “Minister Yellan, these plans are quite good, but for the tax revenue responsibilities, I think you should talk to Mojito about it!”
Mojito was one of the high-ranking officials at the IRS, whose main duty was to liaise with the Treasury Departnt.
“I have already spoken with Mojito, but it seems that the headquarters may have so of their own ideas about this tax revenue and have not made any clear plans yet, so we had to co and consult with Inspector David!”
Hearing the other party’s words, David fell into contemplation, and only after a while did he reply, “Alright Minister Yellan, regarding this tax revenue issue, I will talk to Mojito after I return to see what plans his departnt has first.”
“Thank you very much, Inspector David!”
“Inspector David, there you are!”
As the two continued their conversation, a deep voice from behind forced them to turn around.
The person was none other than the FBI’s Deputy Director Yadokun, and Gavin.
“Deputy Director Yadokun, you look well.”
“Thanks to your blessings, Inspector David, all is well.”
The two shook hands briefly, and then Yadokun looked at Yellan and said, “Minister Yellan, you’re here too!”
“Yes, Deputy Director Yadokun, I was just discussing sothing with Inspector David.”
“Oh?”
Yadokun’s expression changed slightly before he continued, “Have you finished talking, Minister Yellan?”
“We have finished, Deputy Director Yadokun. Please, go ahead!”
Yellan and Annie didn’t wander off too far, instead, they moved seven or eight ters away and started chatting with a few senior officials. However, if one observed carefully, one would notice that their ears and eyes were constantly attentive to the movents on David’s side.
“Inspector David, we really owe you a lot this ti, otherwise, I fear our only option would have been to pack up and go ho…”
Earlier, Sullivan was poised to support Newland to the post of FBI Deputy Director – a move that was nearly complete until David, in the eleventh hour, removed Payden from the equation, causing the plan to abort.
If Newland had succeeded, they would inevitably have been kicked out. Therefore, Yadokun naturally felt grateful to David.
“You have done quite a lot for during this ti, so it was only right, no need to thank too much.”
The FBI had indeed played a significant role for him lately, so David didn’t make much fuss about the matter.
“Ah, it’s nothing really. We just made a trifling effort!”
Yadokun tried to appear nonchalant, but hearing David’s words certainly made him quite pleased with himself.
The work he had done for David was actually a choice made out of desperation, seeing the top echelons of both the CIA and FBI being purged.
But now, it seed that he had made the right choice.
With David’s power growing increasingly vast, and with Payden’s fall from grace, the White House had essentially co under his control – it was almost as if he could cover the sky with one hand.
Therefore, they no longer needed to live in fear of retribution.
“Cough cough…”
Putting aside his stray thoughts, Yadokun cleared his throat with aningful intent, directing his gaze on Gavin.
Gavin was quick to return to the mont, looking at David and saying, “Inspector David, there’s sothing we’d like to discuss with you.”
“What is it?”
Gavin glanced around, ensured that no one was paying attention to them, and lowered his voice, “If I’m not mistaken, you will probably have lots of plans concerning The Big Three Groups, right?”
“So what if I do?”
David narrowed his eyes slightly, looking skeptically at Yagavin.
Felt by such a cold gaze, Gavin shivered and hurriedly explained, “Don’t get wrong, Inspector David. What we an is this.”
“Although The Big Three Groups have taken heavy blows recently, their vitality still exists. To continue the crackdown on them, the assistance of law enforcent agencies is essential.”
“But… we’ve looked into it, and many of our FBI’s facilities and manpower resources are currently insufficient. So, we’re hoping to apply for so funding from the tax revenue generated by the Offshore Tax Avoidance Bill, to increase our surveillance range over them. What do you think…”
Gavin made his proposal sound quite clever.
Indeed, they wanted money, but unlike Yellan earlier, he didn’t directly ask for it; rather, he implied that the FBI intended to use the IRS’s money to handle IRS’s business.
In this case, David naturally had no reason to refuse.
Having heard this, David had finally grasped the true reason why the two ca to see him.
But since they had said they would be using their funds to handle their affairs, David had no good reason to refuse and replied, “Since you’ve both brought it up, when it cos to financial matters, I’ll see how much is needed and try to sort it out for you.”
“Then we’re in your debt, Inspector David…”
Hearing David agree so readily, the two n were secretly delighted.
With this funding, not only would they be able to deploy more resources against The Big Three Groups.
But the key point was that they could use this funding to increase their prestige within their own departnts!
“I should add, however, you must truly use this money where it’s supposed to go. If I find it’s ended up sowhere it shouldn’t, you know what the consequences will be!”
If, as Gavin said, the funds requested were for FBI work, David naturally had no objections; however, if it ended up in soone’s pocket, that was sothing he could not tolerate, and so he had to give a warning.
“Rest assured, Chief Inspector, the funds will definitely be put to proper use!”
The two of them also made their guarantee with serious expressions.
