Chapter 989: Chapter 897 New Goals Part 2 Chapter 989: Chapter 897 New Goals Part 2 The event was so preposterous that Martin didn’t even know what to say for a mont. He could only offer consolation, “In the end, you got the Best Picture Oscar.”

Annie looked around and, seeing no one nearby, lowered her voice and asked, “Was it done on purpose?”

Martin told the truth, “I don’t know.”

At that mont, an assistant director ca over and called Martin and Annie to join the Oscar winners’ group photo.

Because of the mix-up, the group photo session ended hastily, and the winners all declined interviews.

The Academy had soone co over to communicate, requesting that those who were backstage at the ti not discuss what happened in public, especially in front of the dia.

Martin casually agreed.

He left the Dolby Theatre, got into Nicholson’s extended Lincoln, and the two scoundrels were already waiting for him in the car.

All three needed to make an appearance at the “Oscars Night” Party.

Martin, the Best Actor winner, according to the agreent with the sponsors, also needed to be on the party’s red carpet imdiately.

In the car, Leo curiously asked, “What exactly happened?”

Martin described the details of the event and asked Nicholson, “You’ve seen enough; could the Academy have done this on purpose?”

Leo said, “Does the Academy want to attract attention this way?”

Nicholson was scrolling through his phone, turned the screen to show the other two, “Public opinion has exploded.”

On social dia, the related discussion was flooding the feeds.

“Biggest Oscar mix-up in history!”

“This is the fakiest Best Picture in Oscar history, in every sense.”

“The Best Picture debacle, so f*cking thrilling!”

“The Academy is crazed to create a topic like this to attract attention!”

Leo looked away and asked, “Could the Academy really be behind this?”

Nicholson said, “Whether it’s true or false doesn’t matter; the Oscars have beco a hot topic again.”

Martin wasn’t averse to conspiracy theories, “Is there a possibility that those African-Aricans pressured the Academy, and the Academy had to undertake so-called diversity reforms, but the core powers within the Academy are basically people like us. How could they willingly bend to the whims and threats of that bunch of Black…”

Leo understood the implication, “The Academy, not willing to be pressured, while also bearing the heavy burden of social diversity, thus gave them a heavy-weight Oscar award but deliberately made it into the current situation, making that Black gay film beco the most controversial Best Picture in Oscar history.”

Martin said with a laugh, “Was the Best Picture given to them or not? If Black people make a fuss now, it’s their problem.”

“No one would admit to sothing like this,” Nicholson added, “And I feel, it wasn’t deliberately planned, but rather a result that naturally ca about through unspoken consent among certain people.”

He adjusted his sunglasses, “Regardless of how the ‘Moonlight’ film itself is, after this fiasco, the most controversial Best Picture Oscar will no longer be ‘Shakespeare in Love’ but this one.”

Leo said, “From now on, when people think of ‘Moonlight,’ they will always think of the controversy first.”

The car stopped in front of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, waiting to enter.

Martin changed the subject, reminding Leo, “Buddy, rember to solve that math problem later.”

Leo knew what the jokester ant and flicked Martin off directly.

Nicholson didn’t let it go, “The three of us have seven Oscars. How many does each person have?”

Leo was fierce, “By this ti next year, the three of us will have eight Oscars! I swear!”

Soone outside opened the car door, and Martin got out first, followed by Leo and Nicholson onto the red carpet.

There were nearly no film fans here, mostly dia reporters.

Walking up to the hotel’s entrance steps, a journalist from “Vanity Fair,” one of the organizers, blocked Martin’s path, saying, “Congratulations, Martin, on your third Oscar and second Best Actor. Can you share your current feelings?”

“Very excited and happy,” said Martin. Now at this level, he didn’t need to stand out. Instead, he gave a rather predictable reply to the interview, “I appreciate the Academy and my colleagues in the industry for their recognition.”

The reporter’s focus wasn’t here, and followed up with a question, “You must have been backstage before and after the Best Picture award was given out, right? Can you tell us exactly what happened?”

Martin replied, “I went to the bathroom as soon as I got backstage, and only found out what happened when I ca out.”

The reporter still wanted to ask questions, but Martin waved his hand and caught up with Leonardo and Nicholson, and they all entered the hotel together.

Upon entering the banquet hall where the party was held, people gradually ca up to congratulate Martin.

Since the “Split” crew was small and Jonathan Nolan, who hadn’t won any awards, didn’t even co, only the Trio of Scoundrels sat at the table designated for the “Split” crew.

Occasionally people ca up to sniff around for news, but Martin put them off.

Nicholson made a phone call and said, “The Academy’s Board of Governors has called an ergency eting and is aligning their story; I estimate there will be an official statent by tomorrow morning.”

Recalling sothing Martin had said, Leonardo joined the conversation, “I’ve given you the story you wanted, whether or not you accept it is up to you, it has nothing to do with .”

Martin gave Leonardo a thumbs-up, “Old buddy, you’ve gotten to the heart of society!”

Nicholson comnted, “The level of shalessness you two bastards exhibit could keep up with those politicians in Washington.”

Martin waved his hand, “We’re far from that, politicians never have a bottom line; at least Leo and I do.”

After a while, the three decided to leave.

Martin got a call; Elizabeth and Lily had prepared a celebration party at ho.

Leonardo and Nicholson followed him over.

Moreover, Martin also called ne and several friends, as well as mbers of his agency and public relations team.

As they were leaving, Leonardo took another glance around; the atmosphere at this “Oscars Night” party was not great.

The controversies sparked by “Spotlight” and “Moonlight Boy” were just beginning.

Martin and his companions quickly returned to Sunset Boulevard North District.

During the day, Elizabeth had gone out of her way to notify the neighbors, nearby residents, and the hoowners association.

As soon as Martin and the others got out of the car, fireworks shot into the sky.

The entire Davis Estate was lit up brilliantly, with splendid fireworks flying continuously into the air, celebrating Martin’s second Oscar Best Actor win.

In all of Hollywood, the number of actors who have received three Oscar statuettes for acting can be counted on one hand.

Today’s mascot and icon of the Oscars, Jack Nicholson, has the sa number of awards as Martin: one Best Supporting Actor and two Best Actor awards.

The only one with three Oscar Best Actor wins is the Academy’s darling Daniel Day Lewis.

People who ca to congratulate would clink glasses with Martin.

No matter how good Martin’s capacity for liquor was, he was getting a bit tipsy.

Once the party ended and the guests were sent off, Martin sat on the living room sofa sprawlingly, speaking half-sober, half-drunken words.

Soone once said there were fifty-five kinds of people who would sing and dance when drunk, and there was one kind who loved to brag the most when intoxicated.

“I once thought of breaking into Washington, conquering the White House, and obliterating Arica.” Martin wasn’t entirely boasting, “Now I suddenly realize, I’ve beco the established ruling class, the boy who dread of slaying dragons has finally turned into the dragon himself!”

Lily pouted, “I knew there was a dragon the mont you started chasing my sister.”

Elizabeth gave Lily a raised eyebrow.

The two had their own understanding, and Lily quickly shut up, no longer ntioning the people and things of Atlanta.

Elizabeth poured a glass of water for Martin, “Your old goals weren’t realistic, what about your current goals?”

Martin took the water, drank most of it in one gulp, and said, “Beco the number one person in Hollywood, achieve an accomplishnt that neither superstars nor top directors have ever accomplished.”

Lily had heard from Nicholson before, “To beco the first person who has won the Oscar for Best Actor, and also won the Oscar for Best Director?”

Martin stood up, took Lily by one hand, and Elizabeth by the other, “Both want and want, quite greedy.”
