Ace stands frozen, Jun’s words ringing in his ears.
Kieran.
The na alone stirs a complicated ss of emotions inside him.
Kieran, the arrogant, stubborn Alpha. The one who had rejected Ace’s worth ti and ti again. The one who had hurt him, intentionally or not.
But also_ Kieran, the leader. The rightful Alpha of their pack. The man Ace had followed for long, respected, even when it frustrated him. Looked up to.
This is not about them, but the pack, the wellbeing of the werewolf world.
And now, he was in trouble.
Ace tightens his grip on the strap of his bag, his mind warring with itself.
Would it be so bad if Kieran lost?
Would it be so bad if soone else took his place?
Ace exhales sharply, his jaw clenching. Yes, it would.
Because no matter how much he is mad at Kieran, no matter how much anger lingers between them, the truth is undeniable: Kieran is the strongest Alpha.
The pack needs him.
Without him, they would be vulnerable_ to Rehan, to others seeking power, to chaos.
Ace curses under his breath. "Damn it."
Jun watches him closely, saying nothing, just waiting.
Ace finally exhales and drops his bag onto the floor. "Fine I’ll go, after all_ we need him as a pack because he is not just after power, he cares about everyone_ except , maybe."
Jun’s lips twitch into a small smile, even if Ace says those last words, he knows these two will just solve their problems one day.
He nods and moves toward the door with Ace following right behind him. Without even doing what he had co to do.
The Alpha Duel Arena
The scent of blood fills the air before they even reach the battlefield.
Ace’s heart pounds as they step into the wide, open clearing_ an ancient space used for formal Alpha challenges.
The ground is scorched with claw marks and dust, the scent of aggression thick in the atmosphere.
The entire pack has gathered in a rough circle around the fight, watching in tense silence.
At the center of the battlefield, Kieran and Rehan are locked in combat.
Ace’s breath catches in his throat.
Kieran looks—rough.
Blood drips from his forehead, staining the side of his face.
His bare torso is covered in deep claw marks, fresh wounds still oozing as he struggles to keep his stance.
His breathing is heavy, uneven.
Rehan, on the other hand, looks smug. Unscathed.
Ace grits his teeth, his hands clenching into fists.
All around them, whispers ripple through the crowd.
"Kieran’s losing."
"Rehan might actually win this."
"Has Kieran grown weak?"
Ace’s jaw tightens.
He searches the faces of the pack mbers, seeing doubt, uncertainty_ fear.
They are starting to believe that Rehan could take the Alpha position. And also take Kieran’s pack, they also heard that Kieran would give up on Ace even if Ace won’t accept Rehan as a mate, he will just be in his pack and Kieran would stay away from him.
Ace feels sothing burn inside him. He looks at Jun, who looks just as tense, his hands curled at his sides.
Kieran lets out a sharp growl, lunging at Rehan, but his movents are slower now. Rehan dodges easily, laughing as he slashes across Kieran’s side, drawing more blood.
Kieran stumbles, falling onto one knee.
A collective gasp echoes through the crowd.
Ace’s heart clenches. He cannot take it anymore , he can’t watch kieran like that anymore.
He thinks and thinks, his chest heaving, his heart bleeding at that. His mark starting to glow faintly.
His wolf growl restlessly.
Kieran never falls.
Rehan smirks, towering over him. "Look at you, Kieran," he taunts. "The great Alpha, brought to his knees. I told you, no actually... I warned you. U told you to save yourself so face. That you were already ashed by being rejected, but you didn’t listen, look at you now..."
Kieran pants, glaring up at him, but Ace can see it_ doubt creeping into his eyes.
Rehan’s voice drips with mockery. "Maybe it’s ti you accept it. You’re not fit to lead anymore."
Ace’s blood boils.
He "hates" Kieran.
But he hates Rehan even more now.
Because Kieran belongs in that position. No matter what Ace personally feels about him, no one else is fit to lead their pack.
And Rehan has no right to say Sothing like that to kieran!
Ace inhales sharply, stepping forward before he even realizes what he’s doing. His voice cuts through the murmuring crowd.
"KIERAN! What are you doing?! Are you letting him to take you down? Or are you really weak to take him down?!"
The entire battlefield turns to look at him.
Kieran’s head snaps up, his golden eyes locking onto Ace’s. His pupils dilate slightly, shock flickering in them.
Ace ets his gaze, his expression firm. Get up.
For a mont, Kieran just stares at him.
Then... sothing shifts.
A spark. A flicker of life. Ace is here, he is back, he is counting on , I’ve already failed him, I promised not to do it ever again!
Rey’s face lights up when he sees Kieran’s life flicker in Kieran. He has never been glad to see Ace as this mont.
Kieran grits his teeth and pushes himself up.
Rehan scowls. "Still not giving up? Fine." He lunges at Kieran again...
But this ti, Kieran moves.
Faster than before. Stronger.
He dodges Rehan’s attack, twisting his body at the last second before slamming his elbow into Rehan’s ribs. The impact echoes through the battlefield.
Rehan staggers back, eyes wide in shock.
Kieran doesn’t stop.
With a guttural snarl, he launches himself at Rehan, fists colliding with his face, his claws raking against his opponent’s chest. The shift is instant_ Kieran is back.
And this ti, he’s winning.
The energy of the crowd shifts, excitent replacing doubt.
"He’s fighting back!"
"Alpha Kieran is back!"
"Rehan’s in trouble now!"
Ace exhales, relief washing over him as he watches Kieran dominate the fight.
Jun nudges him. "You did that."
Ace scoffs. "I did nothing."
Jun smirks. "Right. You just happened to show up and suddenly Kieran finds his strength again?"
Ace glares at him, but there’s no heat in it.
They both know the truth.
Kieran needed to see that Ace was there.
That Ace still stood with him.
And maybe_ just maybe_ Ace needed to see Kieran fight for himself, too.
As the battle rages on, everyone knows that Kieran is winning even if the battle hasn’t ended.
