ZARAH~

I stared at the blinds of his office. They had been shut for the past three days but I knew he was in because Interns kept getting called in.

A male intern stepped out, walking to the break room with Michael’s coffee mug in his hands, I stood up and followed behind him.

"Hey, Jas." I greeted them as he filled the mug, he turned to and a bright smile curved his lips.

"Hey, Miss Dina." He replied nervously, his cheeks red for so reason, I ignored it, it’s funny that he called miss when I was just a few years older than he was.

"What is Micheal up to?" I asked.

"Emmm." He dragged on, leaning against the counter and forcing his hands into his tight pockets, His attempt at being cool was cute, it almost reminded of Elliott.

"You don’t know?"

"I do but he said we shouldn’t tell you."

"?" I asked surprised, His cheeks flared up as if he just realized his massive screw-up.

"Not you, I an anybody." He rambled nervously.

"Hmmmmm." I squinted with suspicion as I turned around and walked out of the break room, I heard him curse and call himself nas but I just kept walking away. I walked back to my seat and after a few seconds, Jas nervously wabbled past and walked into Michaels’s office. I don’t know why but I felt offended, why didn’t he want to know what was keeping him busy? I took in a deep breath and decided to let it go. Regardless of the reason I had work to do and I couldn’t turn my focus to sothing as nial as my boss choosing not to tell sothing because he wasn’t even obligated to. I began typing out the mos he had asked to make when his office door opened and he popped his head out.

"Dina." He said quietly, I turned my head as if I hadn’t been staring at his door for the past hour.

"Yes," I replied softly.

"Co." He said, gesturing for to enter his office then he walked back in, I wasted a few seconds before I stood up from my desk and slowly walked towards the door.

"Hey." I greeted formally as I entered the office, he looked at strangely but didn’t say anything as he walked over to his desk and sat down.

"Do you like it here?" He asked abruptly, the question took by surprise, and I didn’t know how to answer.

"I—I do," I replied after a few seconds of stuttering, he smiled warmly and gestured for to take a seat, I obliged and sat down.

"What’s this about?" I asked, my heart beating frantically as fear began to overwhelm , Was he about to lay off, was I about to lose my job, on the spot my mind traveled to another world, Elliott going hungry as I was unable to find another job, Having to sell the house, Taking loans I wouldn’t be able to pay back. My body trembled as I realized it was the reason for the sudden distance between the both of us.

"Well—" He was about to answer but I interrupted him.

"Before you say anything, let propose sothing to you." I hastily said, he raised a brow but didn’t stop "I’ll increase my hours, I’ll take on more responsibility if you want to co in on weekends, holidays I will just—"

"Wait what are you saying." He cut off.

"Giving you reasons not to fire ," I said quietly.

"Fire you?" He repeated then began laughing like I had just told a joke but all it did was make my frantic mind go into an irrational frenzy, luckily he stopped before I could go too deep.

"Relax Zarah, it’s actually kind of the opposite." He said as he pushed a docunt to "Read."

I picked up the file and scanned through it and imdiately a sentence, the heading of the whole docunt had my eyes glued to it.

"Proposal to promote Dina yers into the executive seat." My eyes widened as the words left my mouth and as I turned them to him I saw a bright smile on his face.

"What do you think?" He asked.

"Is this a joke?"

"Of course not. It’d be a lot more work, a lot more stress, and late nights, so it’s ok to say no, But if you say yes as you can see I’ve been working on the proposal and I’d submit it to the shareholders tomorrow and finalize it all." He replied, I was speechless as I stared at him.

"So?" He urged excitedly, I nodded as the words refused to leave my mouth.

"Yes?"

"Yes," I confird happily as I rounded the table and jumped into his arms, embracing him tightly as I whispered thanks into his ear.

"Thank you."

"No problem." He replied gently pulling away from but as I neared his face I heard the faint sound of him taking in a small breath. Only when I walked back to my seat did I see that my actions had left him flustered.

"Sorry." I apologized, he smiled and shook his head.

"It’s all right." He assured.

"Is this why we haven’t been talking?" I asked after a few monts of silence.

"Yeah, I needed complete focus." He answered.

"Then why the interns?" I asked.

"I was using them to practice how I’d tell you." He answered with a cheeky smile, I chuckled, wanting to say sothing, I wanted to thank him but I could think of no words, my mind was blank with joy as I just kept reading the heading over and over again.

"Why?" I asked.

"I don’t know." He said as he fiddled with a pen on his desk "I don’t know, I just wanted to do sothing special for you.", I smiled at him, Still unable to thank him as much as I wanted to.

"I feel like I need to pay you back," I said calmly, he shook his head.

"You don’t."

"Have I ever cooked for you?" I suddenly rembered the way Damon always asked to pay him back.

"No." He replied

"Ok, follow to my place tonight and I’ll make you dinner, the best you’ve ever had."

"Really?"

"Yeah," I confird, he smiled and rubbed his hands together.

"Ok then. Let’s go." He said as he grabbed his jacket.

"Now?" I questioned, "I leave at five."

"Yes, but you forgot one tiny but all-so-crucial detail." He said with joking seriousness.

"Which is?"

"I’m your boss." He answered, my smile widened uncontrollably as I nodded and obliged.

I picked up my jacket and together we walked to the car park took my car and drove to my place. I parked the car carefully to make him take back his words about driving like a crazy person.

"Because you parked well doesn’t make you a good driver." He argued as he released his seat belt and opened the door.

"I am a good driver," I argued as I opened my door and stepped out but as my feet touched the concrete of my driveway my eyes landed on the man who sat on my staircase.
