Damon’s pov

The night had stretched on longer than I’d expected. I had only co here to share a drink with Daniel and the ’ chick.’ he had brought for and I was out here clear my mind after the discussion with Daniel, but now, I couldn’t shake the feeling that sothing wasn’t right.

The woman had been staring at , been around too much, her smile too sweet, her words too formal. She was enough, sure, for the companion I needed but sothing about the way she looked at made my skin tight. She kept leaning in, her laughter loud-pitched and far too eager, touching my arm further than was necessary.

She was just too comfortable like she had been hear a hundred tis. Sotis she could lean in so close that I could see her breasts straining to be set free.

I wasn’t sure if Daniel understood what companion ant, I didn’t say I needed a call girl or a stripper.

She touched my arms seductively too and laughed even when I didn’t say anything too funny.

I sighed. I need space. I don’t like won like this and I was thinking of ways of dismissing her.

I needed to breathe, and I needed so distance.

I walked across the room to take a call, not that I expected anything important, just a quick check- heft with the pack. But when I pulled my phone from my pocket and hit the dial tone, my mind wasn’t on the call. It was on her. The woman.

What the hell was her na again?

I couldn’t rember

I was halfway through the discussion when sothing caught my attention a shift in the air, like an unforeseen temperature drop. I looked around the room, surveying the bar, trying to push the apprehension down. My thoughts kept circling back to her, the way she kept looking at , her smile just a little too sharp.

When the call ended, I turned back to the table.

She was still there, waiting for . But sothing had changed. The air between us felt thicker now. I felt a headache starting at the back of my head, and it wasn’t from the alcohol. My vision swam just a little — nothing too hard, but enough to make break.

I walked back to my seat sluggishly, trying to shake the sense of apprehension that had settled in my chest. She greeted with another one of her sweet smiles, but now, I noticed sothing different in her eyes sothing that wasn’t as innocent as it sounded.

She had refilled my drink.

I hadn’t asked for another. I hadn’t even finished the first one.

" Are you sure you’re okay? " she asked, her voice dropping low as she slid into the seat next to . " You feel a little out. "

I didn’t rember telling her to help but sothing felt off.

The further I think about it, the further I could

n’t ignore the troubling feeling crawling up my chin.

Sothing was wrong.

" Yeah, I’m OK, " I said, forcing a smile. My hand reached out for the drink without really thinking about it. It wasn’t the cold of the room. It wasn’t even the damn headache that was sluggishly coming through. It was sothing else— sothing that wasn’t right.

I wondered why Daniel brought her here.

I took a sip and felt like slipping off, like I wanted to fall asleep and worst my drink tasted kind of different.

I had no idea how important ti had passed, but I set the drink down instantly, nearly knocking it over.

" Excuse for a mont, " I said, trying to sound normal, but the words felt too thick in my mouth.

I stood up and walked toward the bar. The room seed to spin a little as I moved, the light fluttering in the corner of my eyes My legs were unsteady under , as if my body was just a little too disconnected from my mind.

Was this the sa drink I had left or was it different?

The lights overhead seem so much bigger and brighter now.

"Alpha Damon, you don’t look fine."

I swallowed hard.

"I’m cool."

She didn’t feel concerned but pretended to be.

" I’m sorry, " she said sweetly, her voice honeyed and smooth, " I didn’t an to make you uncomfortable. "

She was lying. I could see it in her eyes, the way she was trying to mask her real intentions. But whatever she had done to my drink was starting to protest, and it was making it hard for to concentrate.

" I think I need so fresh air, " I murmured, my voice thick. " I’ll be right back. "

She didn’t try to stop as I turned away, my feet feeling heavy like I was walking through snow.

I was suddenly feeling so funny and dizzy all at once. I was even feeling so hot and my throat was parched like I needed sothing cold.

"I’ll be back."

"Alpha —" she purred.

But I was outside before she could even finish her sentence.

I leaned against the l wall of the packhouse, forcing my mind to concentrate. My heart was hamring, my heart forging in my chest. But it wasn’t just the physical response. Sothing else — sothing more terrifying — was telling that this wasn’t about the alcohol

She’d done sothing to . I was sure of it.

Had she added sothing to my drink?

The question was Why? What did she want? This was more than the companionship I wanted

The further I think about it, the further questions pile up. I could feel the hair on the back of my neck standing up, my senses alert to anything around .

My brain began to go around and different thoughts fought in my head until I blinked rapidly.

My drink tastes funny and I was not only feeling dizzy but kind of horny. Haven’t felt like this before.

Damn.

No, I shook my head. Trixie did nothing to my drink

* Why does sothing feel off? *
