Chen Mo continued.
“Alright, let us begin.
I know everyone here is filled with doubt, what would Chen Mo’s first ga look like? What platform? Probably PC or mobile. Geez, it’s so mysterious.”
Chen Mo couldn’t even hold in his own laughter.
The journalists were also laughing along, “Quit the stand-up cody, show us the ga!”
“Alright alright, onto the new ga. However, let’s watch a simple cinematic before we start talking about the new ga.”
Chen Mo stood to one side and a cinematic started playing.
This caughted the attention of the journalists.
EVerybody knew that Thunderbolt Entertainnt was also known as Thunderbolt Movies, the video ga company who was most willing to burn money on making cinematics. The ones in Warcraft and Diablo were classic examples of that.
Will the cinematics this ti around be as incredible?
There was a cut.
The sun was rising in the background and a little man ran towards the cara.
The whole scene was incredibly brightly lit from the sun. It was also highly saturated, but everything was ford by blocks.
Cube shaped clouds, trees, grass, rocks...
The person looked like a toy but was still quite adorable.
A huge slide was built in countless cubes. The person slid down from the slide and flew into the sky. His wings on his back opened up, flying through forests and valleys before reaching a boat on the ocean.
Whales that were also ford using blocks tossed the ship into the area.
The character hit a block in the air that looked like TNT and exploded before falling onto a rooftop.
The character looked forward.
The building in the background slowly lit up, and the entire city followed.
Upon closer inspection, all the buildings were also built using blocks. There were many iconic buildings such as Beijing National Stadium, Beijing National Aquatics Center, and Yellow Crane tower.
The entire city looked incredible grand as everything was lit.
The cara panned into the sky, revealing the logo of the ga built in blocks, Minecraft.
This was where the cinematics ended.
—
There was applause, but it wasn’t particularly enthusiastic.
Many of the journalists were confused, What was that?
They were looking forward to a cinematic similar to Warcraft or Diablo’s level, they didn’t expect a short one minute animation.
Could that be Chen Mo’s new ga?
Chen Mo walked to the front of the stage, expecting the reaction he got.
“I know there may be so questions, don’t worry, I’ll explain in a bit.
“This ga is a VR ga called Minecraft. You may be wondering, why Minecraft?
“In short, it’s a sandbox ga. Many of you may have played Leggos. This ga is built around the fun that you get from Leggo sets.
“So, what can you do in the ga?”
Chen Mo went through the Powerpoint as he explained.
“This is a world built in blocks. You could view it as a world built of Leggos. In this world, you can freely move blocks and make the world however you want it to look.
“You could dig out a huge maze in a mountain.
“Or build a grand flying city using glass.
“You could also recreate real life buildings such as the sports stadium, the Great Wall, or the opera house. Of course you would need so architectural knowledge, and a lot of patience.
“To put it simply, you could build basically anything you want in this world.
Chen Mo flipped through the slides, with images of the sports stadium, Great Wall, and opera house built using blocks.
“Moreover, there are rich additional ga modes.
“For example, survival mode. You have nothing on you once you spawn in, and you must gather wood and stone to build your own house, avoiding dangerous monsters during the night and try your best to survive.
“Or local multiplayer, you could look for other people’s worlds, or invite other plays to your house and build together in the sa world.
“Or online mode. In every server, ten thousand players can band together and create in a ten thousand kilotre squared area. Every server would be unique.
“Moreover, there is a tech tree in the ga that is completely different from real life, as well as a unique trading system...”
Chen Mo’s explanation was clear and concise as he introduced every bit of Minecraft to the journalists.
There were various different reactions coming from the journalists.
So were really into it.
So couldn’t understand it.
So were whispering and shaking their heads.
So had a blank look on their face as they didn’t know what to make of this.
Evidently, even those who were interested in the ga were slightly disappointed.
Everybody knew that western fantasy was Chen Mo’s strongest point. No matter Warcraft or Diablo, Chen Mo was the best in the country at handling western fantasy.
Moreover, Chen Mo put all that extra effort into maintaining World of Azeroth, updating it periodically to tell the story of Warcraft’s world. The players were all waiting and hoping that Chen Mo would turn the world of Azeroth into an MMORPG.
Many thought that Chen Mo made Diablo to pave the way for RPG gas, and the next ga would most likely be a first person RPG.
But?
The new ga was an RPG, a first person RPG, a VR ga. But this was completely different from what they were expecting!
Although the graphics were pretty good, although the content was rich, although the players could create incredible buildings in ga, it looked like it was made for children!
Leggo? That’s for kids!
It would’ve been fine if it was a mobile ga, it was still fine on PC because there were more younger players on these platforms, so there would most certainly be more players who would be interested in gas like this.
But on VR?
VR pods cost tens of thousands. Other than kids born in rich families, only successful adults could afford sothing like that.
Which of these adults would be willing to lay down in their expensive gaming pods to stack blocks.
Chen Mo’s speech was really entertaining and filed with content, most journalists were taking this seriously and jotting down notes.
But there were also many who lost interest in it as they unwillingly shot a few clips and took down a few important points waiting for the event to end.
There was a journalist that was particularly disappointed who sent a ssage to his senior editor, “My goodness, Chen Mo developed a building ga...”
