Aka was an undeniable siscon.
Unless it was a man she personally approved of, she couldn’t stand seeing Kuro getting close to any other guy.
So at this mont, Aka completely lost her composure.
However, she was still capable of assessing the situation and quickly suppressed her emotions, reverting to the cold, ruthless assassin she had trained to be.
Drawing Murasa from its sheath, she made her decision—tonight, she would personally put Kuro to rest!
"You’re still flirting in front of us at a ti like this?"
Mine deliberately lowered the hood of her cloak, raising Pumpkin and aiming it directly at Kuro.
Without hesitation, she fired a blast of compressed energy.
Their primary target was Kuro. They knew she had been thoroughly brainwashed by the Empire—there was no reasoning with her.
Kuro instinctively tried to dodge, but her hand was still held by Blayn.
"Trust ," Blayn said calmly.
Just those two words were enough to put Kuro at ease.
In her heart, Commander Blayn was soone she could trust.
"...Alright."
She nodded slightly.
However, just as the energy blast from Pumpkin was about to hit her, she instinctively raised Yatsufusa to block it.
Yet, to her astonishnt, she felt nothing. It was as if the attack had passed right through her body—without a trace, without impact, without pain.
"Huh?"
Before Kuro could make sense of what happened, a loud boom erupted behind her.
She turned around—an abandoned wall just behind her had been blasted to rubble.
Thankfully, no bystanders were hard.
What... just happened?
That attack had been aid directly at her.
Could it be... Commander Blayn’s Teigu ability?
"What?!"
Mine was just as shocked.
Her own attack had gone straight through them?!
"Be careful! Their abilities are weird!" she imdiately warned the others.
Hearing this, Aka and the rest of Night Raid held back from attacking right away.
"You’re Kuro’s sister, Aka, right?"
Blayn finally spoke to her.
Aka gave a slight nod, her expression grave, as if facing a formidable enemy.
She didn’t bother to conceal her face.
By now, word of her defection to the Revolutionary Army had spread throughout the Empire. Among Night Raid, her identity had been exposed the earliest—her wanted posters were plastered all over the capital.
Blayn could clearly see that her face was almost identical to the one on the bounty posters.
Long, flowing black hair. Crimson eyes.
Her features bore a strong resemblance to Kuro’s, delicate yet sharp.
Dressed in a black dress and cloak, her figure was slender—taller than Kuro’s.
"You two finally get to see each other again, yet you're already drawing your swords?"
Blayn had sensed Aka's killing intent toward Kuro.
He knew Kuro wanted to kill Aka, but he hadn't expected Aka to feel the sa way.
The sisters who once depended on each other for survival were now set on each other's deaths.
"There is no other choice. I have to end Kuro's suffering with my own hands," Aka said firmly.
"I'm going to kill my sister too—so she'll stay by my side forever," Kuro replied with a soft chuckle.
"Enough. I won’t let you kill Kuro. But if you insist on fighting, don’t bla for not holding back," Blayn's voice grew cold.
He remained neutral toward Night Raid and the Revolutionary Army, but that didn’t an he would tolerate them harming the people around him.
This might be a personal matter between the sisters, but there was no way he would stand by and watch Kuro die.
"Aka, should we...?" Leone whispered.
"Retreat. His ability is strange, and we can’t afford to take unnecessary risks without a guaranteed quick victory," Aka said decisively, staying calm.
Moreover, the noise from Pumpkin’s blast had likely alerted the Imperial Capital Security Force. The approaching figures in the distance were probably them.
The Empire’s Assassination Unit and military forces wouldn’t be far behind either.
Lingering here would only lead to disaster.
"Let’s go."
Lubbock was the first to turn back along their original escape route, followed closely by Aka, Mine, and the others.
Aka glanced back one last ti at Blayn and Kuro.
They weren’t chasing after them.
Sure enough, shortly after Night Raid withdrew, the Imperial Capital Security Force arrived at the scene.
However, when they got there, only Blayn and Kuro remained.
"Captain Blayn? We detected signs of a battle here. Did you encounter Night Raid?"
Although Blayn had left his position days ago, the security force mbers still habitually addressed him as their captain.
"They retreated," Blayn said with a nod. "Sorry you had to rush over for nothing."
"Not at all, Captain! This is our duty."
"As expected of Captain Blayn! Night Raid must’ve been planning to assassinate another high-ranking official tonight, but you intercepted them."
"Sigh, with Captain Blayn’s strength, it really is a waste for him to be stationed in the Security Force."
...
The officers naturally assud Blayn had driven Night Raid away.
As for Kuro, they didn’t recognize her. From appearance alone, she seed like a fragile young girl.
They also didn’t know where Blayn was currently assigned, only that he had been transferred elsewhere.
The Security Force then proceeded with their investigation, scanning the area.
There were hardly any signs of battle—only the collapsed wall from Pumpkin’s blast.
Seeing this, their admiration for Blayn only deepened.
They believed he had driven off Night Raid within monts and remained completely unscathed. Given that Night Raid usually operated in groups of at least two or three Teigu users, this was an impressive feat in their eyes.
...
While the officers processed the scene, Kuro was still lost in thought about what had just happened.
"Commander, are you trying to stop from killing my sister?" she asked.
"Maybe. But what I can say for sure is... I will protect you, because—"
Blayn paused.
Kuro’s eyes wavered slightly as she looked up at him, as if his words had struck sothing deep inside her.
"—because I’m your commander."
Blayn smiled.
"..."
The light in Kuro’s eyes imdiately dulled.
Her lips puffed slightly, and her expression soured—clearly displeased.
"Forget about my sister for now. More importantly, Commander, how long do you plan on holding my hand?"
As if in retaliation, she deliberately emphasized the fact that Blayn was still holding onto her.
