Returning to room 404 after a two-day absence, Qin Luo found a visitor there: Xiaoming, a fellow mber of the music club along with Li Xuan.

It seed Xiaoming and Li Xuan were discussing a performance for the upcoming anniversary celebration next Friday. Qin Luo gave him a polite nod in greeting.

Xiaoming looked at him with surprise, about to say sothing, but Li Xuan cut him off.

Qin Luo didn’t mind and climbed up onto his bed.

After Li Xuan and Xiaoming left the room, Xiaoming couldn’t contain his curiosity any longer and asked, “Why did you stop back there? Didn’t you say you wanted Qin Luo to perform in your place? I was about to tell him about that song! It’s an amazing piece, and it’s an original. If he performs, it’ll be a big hit.”

Li Xuan hesitated, then replied, “Yeah, I do want my good buddy to perform, but…”

“But what?”

“I haven’t told him about it yet.”

Xiaoming raised an eyebrow, exclaiming, “Are you kidding ?”

Li Xuan shot back, “It’s a great song, right? And my buddy’s skills are flawless, so why are you acting like I’m pulling your leg?”

“Sure, the song is great, and his skills are top-notch, but you haven’t even told him about this!”

“I just wanted to talk to the departnt head first. Even if Qin Luo agrees, if the head doesn’t, then we’re back to square one, aren’t we?”

Xiaoming nodded, saying, “You’re right. The anniversary gala is a pretty formal event. Besides guest perforrs and students from the school’s designated arts departnts, it’s not open to just any student.”

He then added, “Let’s go talk to the departnt head together; it shouldn’t be a big deal.”

“Alright, let’s go,” Li Xuan agreed, quickly following along.

After listening to Qin Luo’s original song “Smile Enchants the City” two days earlier, Li Xuan had thought long and hard and finally made a decision.

He wanted to give Qin Luo the chance to perform. On one hand, he felt that his own mindset wasn’t suitable for performing on stage. If he got too nervous and ssed up, it would be embarrassing.

Qin Luo, however, was different. In the two years he’d known Qin Luo, he had always been calm and composed. Li Xuan was confident that Qin Luo would handle the stage just fine.

Moreover, he saw it as an opportunity for Qin Luo. The anniversary gala would be attended by prominent alumni, so of whom were well-known in society.

While Qin Luo had never shown much interest in music, Li Xuan felt that neither the song nor Qin Luo himself should be buried in obscurity.

Talented people and great songs deserved to be showcased on a good stage.

Convinced, he had taken the initiative to bring it up with Xiaoming, suggesting that Qin Luo take his place.

Initially, Xiaoming wasn’t thrilled, but after hearing the recording, he got excited and insisted that Qin Luo had to perform; otherwise, it would be a loss for the event.

However, because the anniversary gala was a formal occasion, they needed to clear it with the departnt head first.

As they anticipated, after viewing the recording, the head of the music departnt, Liu Ming, enthusiastically clapped the table and exclaid, “Excellent, excellent, excellent!”

Liu Ming, 21 and in his third year, had a deep passion for music, unlike Li Xuan, whose interest waned after starting college.

Liu Ming had long, ssy hair and carried a guitar. When they arrived, he was practicing a song for the gala.

Initially annoyed at being interrupted, his frustration quickly turned to excitent after hearing the song and watching the recording.

“This song is amazing! Sure, the singing technique isn’t extraordinary, and the lody is simple, but the lyrics…”

Xiaoming interjected, “Sounds like it’s nothing special?”

Liu Ming shot him a scornful look. “You don’t get it. The song may lack technical complexity, but it’s the aning that matters!”

“What aning?”

“Li Xuan said Qin Luo wrote this song for Ji Yan. It’s a love song. The lody is captivating, and every note is filled with joy. The lyrics highlight a pure and beautiful yearning for love—exactly what young people aspire to.”

Li Xuan and Xiaoming exchanged glances and gave Liu Ming a thumbs-up.

“Impressive, Head.”

“No wonder you’re in charge here…”

“Nothing to it,” Liu Ming waved them off. “I rember once singing to a girl I liked. She only had three words for after that.”

Li Xuan asked, “I love you?”

“No, she said ‘Get lost, idiot.’”

Li Xuan: “…”

Xiaoming: “How bad was that song?”

Liu Ming explained, “It wasn’t the song. I broke into the broadcast room during recess to sing it to her over the loudspeaker, confessed, and got punished for it. She got laughed at for a while…”

Li Xuan & Xiaoming: “Pfft.”

Unfazed, Liu Ming suddenly grew excited again, “Is Qin Luo on campus now? Let’s go find him; I’ll tell him myself about the performance!”

Xiaoming replied, “We just saw him in the dorm. Let’s go now.”

Li Xuan, however, stopped them, “Wait. My buddy might not even want to perform. You guys hold on. Let talk to him first.”

“Hurry up, then!” Liu Ming urged, his eagerness resembling an empty-nester awaiting a child’s return.
