Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Old Clothes

Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Old Clothes

When she thought of the past two occasions she had entered Xie Xinghua’s cottage and saw Jiang Wangshan always lying there quietly, a wave of confusion erged from the bottom of her heart; he was rely immobile, but it seed as if he had lost all vitality.

Jiang Ziling’s eyes flickered with a trace of dimness, “My brother’s condition is far more severe than imagined. Apart from a brain still capable of thought, his body is almost uncontrollable, his mouth and eyes askew, even speaking has beco a luxury. Perhaps this state has disheartened him, and he does not wish to go outside. Even when I occasionally visit and talk to him, he mostly responds indifferently, spending most of his ti imrsed in his own world, accompanied only by sleep.”

“Oh, so that’s what’s going on.”

Su Yu responded softly, her eyes shimring with deep thought as she delicately considered the predicant faced by Jiang Wangshan—it seed to stem from a spinal injury.

This was no small matter, spinal issues are notoriously complex, and even with her dical skills, she found it difficult to assert imdiately whether there was a full guarantee of a cure.

Therefore, she was reluctant to make promises lightly, well aware that once words were spoken, they planted seeds of hope, and if ultimately unfulfilled, it would bring not only disappointnt to the patient’s family but also an indescribable sense of guilt and self-reproach within her.

Jiang Ziling noticed the faint worry between Su Yu’s brows and couldn’t help but ask with concern, “What are you thinking about? You seem to have a lot on your mind.”

“Ah, it’s nothing serious.”

Su Yu said lightly, attempting to shift the topic, “I was just thinking about the clothes I borrowed from Xie Xinghua, which I accidentally lost in Ning County. I’ve bought a new set and plan to deliver it to her personally. You just rest well in bed and take good care of Xixi, don’t let her run around, okay.”

On hearing the ntion of clothes, Jiang Ziling suddenly rembered; their worn garnts, amidst all the chaos, had also gone missing. He hastily inquired, just before Su Yu left, “Ah Yu, have you seen any of our old clothes, mine and Xixi’s?”

Su Yu, hearing this, rolled her eyes helplessly and joked in a light-hearted tone, “That fierce woman from the Zhou Family, she didn’t even spare the bedding, tore everything up rcilessly. Those clothes worn for years, practically falling apart, naturally she didn’t show any rcy. They’re long gone, probably thrown out as waste cloth.”

“Thrown out?”

Jiang Ziling’s face showed a pained expression, as if those clothes carried mories of him and his daughter from days gone by.

Noticing his subtle change of mood, Su Yu’s lips curled into a smile, continuing to tease, “What, were you planning to keep those rags as treasured items?”

Jiang Ziling suddenly appeared sowhat awkward. “How could I.”

A hint of embarrassnt surfaced on his face, “I just thought, although the clothes are torn, cutting and sewing them into shoes wouldn’t be a bad idea, as I have limited mobility now and nothing better to do.”

“Stop kidding!”

Su Yu raised her hand to stop him, her eyes full of seriousness, “That fabric is too worn out and rough to the touch, let alone making shoes that people would step on. They wouldn’t be durable or reliable!”

Jiang Ziling, upon further reflection, had to admit that Su Yu’s points made sense.

“However…”

Su Yu appraised Jiang Ziling carefully, then suddenly shifted her tone, “You do have a point. Since you have the spare ti and skilled hands for shoemaking, why not put them to use. I’ve bought plenty of new fabric, there’s no need to use those ruined pieces.”

“Then I’ll trouble you to make a pair for both of us. I’m quite curious about how different they will feel when worn, hehe!”

As soon as Jiang Ziling spoke, his cheeks turned slightly red, and his words were sowhat awkward.

This suggestion from Su Yu made Jiang Ziling feel shy, and he stamred his agreent, “Okay… okay, then please find so fabric and scissors for first.”

This conversation subtly closed the distance between the two and added a touch of warmth and anticipation to their mundane days.

In the cloth market, the few bolts of fabric that Su Yu had recently purchased shone with a soft luster under the sun, their quality superb, indicating the owner’s fairly affluent lifestyle of late.

Among them, she carefully selected a bolt of deep blue fabric as profound as the night sky, vibrant yet dignified, perfectly matching Jiang Ziling’s temperant.

She happily handed over the fabric, filled with intricate thoughts, imagining that turning it into a pair of shoes would distinctly showcase its unique elegance.

Lately, Su Yu passed a sharp silver pair of scissors to Jiang Ziling. With a hint of concern in her eyes, she quietly asked, “Do you need anything else prepared?”

Jiang Ziling smiled faintly, shook his head, and gently replied, “Not for now, you can go ahead and deliver the clothes to your sister-in-law first.”

Hearing this, Su Yu nodded slightly, succinctly responded with “Okay,” and with the neatly folded clothes in her arms, she briskly stepped toward the door.

As she just stepped into the courtyard, the noise from the neighbor, Fang Qin’s house, faintly carried over. With no door to block the view, the scene on the other side seed to unfold before her without reservation.

Su Yu could hear Fang Qin’s shrill, piercing voice cut through the air, filled with anger: “You fool, dare to call dumb?” Clearly, she had spent quite a bit at Su Yu’s and still had to endure the provocation of being called “foolish” at ho, unable to contain her inner rage.

Fang Qin’s fists kept swinging at the person known as Jiang Youfu, who did not fight back but only emitted feeble moans under the continuous blows, muttering over and over, “Fang Qin… is… stupid…” Although weak, his voice echoed in the empty room, carrying a trace of resignation and helplessness.

“You ungrateful wretch, watch teach you a lesson…”

Fang Qin’s anger erupted like a volcano, deafening. This commotion caused the nearby child Dazhuang to burst into loud cries. Though Fang Qin was frantic, she dared not breastfeed the child, as starting would only make it harder to calm him.

For a mont, the room was filled with a mix of cries and curses, like a symphony without a score, utterly chaotic.

Su Yu, hearing this scene, curled the corner of her mouth into a slight, cold smile.

This recent uproar was just a prelude to more disturbances to co; the real “drama” was still to follow.

She secretly hoped that this family would restrain themselves, not cause trouble for her without reason, so everyone could live peacefully, if only for a mont.

With this thought in mind, Su Yu headed straight for Xie Xinghua’s door, gently lifted her hand, and knocked on the wooden door: “Sister-in-law, it’s , Su Yu, I’ve co to return the clothes I borrowed from you.”

This ti, Xie Xinghua almost imdiately opened the door latch.

Su Yu did not step inside, just gently passed the new clothes over. The garnts were brand new and thoughtfully designed, vibrant in color and exquisite in pattern, starkly different from Xie Xinghua’s old, nded clothes.

Xie Xinghua, looking puzzled, gazed at the clothes in her hand and murmured, “This is…” These clearly did not belong to her, whether in style or quality, significantly surpassing her patched-up old ones.
