I stopped him, "Don’t go, Dad. You know I’ve been wronged for many years. Since I’ve let it go, a clean break is best for everyone. If things got ugly, it wouldn’t benefit our family. There’s no need to pay such a high price for this issue."
I was rational, having gone through this kind of thing once before.
After my persuasion, my dad chose to respect my decision, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Indeed, only when you make the right request at the right ti can you get the desired result.
If I had asked for a divorce before Henry Preston and Azure Vaughn’s affair was discovered, both sets of parents would certainly have persuaded to reconsider.
Luckily, when hardly anyone knew about my divorce lawsuit, this incident happened.
After ending the call, I hesitated for a mont and chose to call Ivan Underwood back.
"Where are you?" Ivan Underwood’s tone sounded a little worried. "Did you know your mother-in-law talked with Azure Vaughn?"
"I know. Henry Preston called and said that if anything happened to Azure Vaughn, I shouldn’t expect to have a good ti either." I casually picked at the food in my bowl and continued without emotion, "Do you also think that I’m the one who told my mother-in-law?"
Ivan Underwood was good friends with Henry Preston, so of course, he would side with Henry.
After all, in their eyes, I was always the resentful woman who would stop at nothing to get Henry Preston.

"Yeah, you wanted a divorce, right? Telling your mother-in-law before that would just make trouble for yourself," Ivan Underwood replied.
"I didn’t expect you to trust . Thank you." I felt a bit relieved.
"What are you planning to do?" Ivan Underwood asked again.
I told Ivan Underwood that I had already filed for divorce, and there was a brief silence on the other end of the phone, followed by so rustling sounds, like soone turning over in bed. He asked, "Really?"
I chuckled, "Could it be fake? In a few days, Henry Preston should receive a notice from the court. You’re his best friend, so he’ll surely tell you, although maybe this is bad news for you."
If I divorce Henry Preston, he and Azure Vaughn can openly be together, making it harder for Ivan Underwood to interfere.
"It’s not bad news, it’s great," Ivan Underwood said lazily. "I wish you success in your divorce."
"Are you sleeping?" I suddenly changed the topic.
"Yeah, I’m off today," Ivan Underwood replied aningfully. "You know, I’m a lone man with no one to date, nothing to do."
I could sense Ivan Underwood’s deep loneliness, and my curiosity was piqued, "You can find a girlfriend. Don’t you have soone you like?"
Ivan Underwood wasn’t the type to reveal his feelings to others, so I was prepared for him to hang up on , but he didn’t.
"I do," he answered softly.
"Then go after her!" I felt inexplicably excited. Is this scene of two n competing for one woman about to start?
"It’s not appropriate," Ivan Underwood replied indifferently.
This response made more certain that the woman he liked was Azure Vaughn, and because of Henry Preston, it was inappropriate for him to interfere.
After organizing my thoughts, I tried to reason with him emotionally, "What’s inappropriate about it? As long as she’s not married, you still have a chance. But if you don’t fight for it, you’ll surely miss the opportunity. Don’t you want to marry the woman you love and watch her marry another man?"
Anyway, I’m getting divorced. Henry Preston thinks I complained to my mother-in-law, so I might as well go all the way in being the bad guy.
Perhaps I spoke to Ivan Underwood’s heart. He was silent for a long ti, then laughed, "You’re right, I know what to do."
"Go for it!" I encouraged him with great relief.
After hanging up the phone, I felt much better, but I still didn’t want to return Henry Preston’s call, so I simply went for an afternoon beauty nap.
It wasn’t until evening that I woke up groggily, reached under the pillow for my phone, and casually scrolled through it.
Curiously, I clicked into Azure Vaughn’s social dia circle to see if she had posted anything, only to find that she had blocked .
It seems my mother-in-law said so harsh words, otherwise, Azure Vaughn wouldn’t have blocked even . Why not just block Henry Preston?!
Just as I wondered what exactly my mother-in-law had said, I saw Azure Vaughn sending a friend request to add back. After accepting it, she sent a ssage:
Miss Hathaway, I’m sorry. Nothing actually happened between Henry Preston and . He has helped a lot, so I treat him as a good friend. Maybe I didn’t pay enough attention to boundaries, making you misunderstand. I’ve thought a lot over the past couple of days and done much self-reflection. I don’t have the face to see anyone. My parents probably don’t know about this yet. If they find out, they’ll surely be devastated, so I choose to disappear, not causing you any more trouble. I hope you won’t hold my parents accountable. Thank you.
Then there was a location info, right at the dock where I was kidnapped last ti.
I felt a sudden alarm. Could Azure Vaughn be planning sothing drastic?
It’s not impossible. She probably never faced such a big humiliation in her life, and being so young, she might act impulsively.
Even though I don’t like her, I never wanted her dead. Besides, I’m divorcing Henry Preston, not trying to win him back.
I imdiately called Henry Preston, but the call was hung up.
Henry Preston’s phone remained off after that, and I didn’t find out what happened until the next day when I got news from Ivan Underwood. Azure Vaughn attempted to harm herself at the dock last night, but Henry Preston arrived in ti to stop her, and they are now in the hospital.
I remained silent for a few seconds, "Okay, I understand. Thank you for telling ."
"Will you be able to handle it if he takes it out on you?" Ivan Underwood asked, seemingly casually.
"What does handling it matter?" I joked, "Let him beat up. It can be used as evidence in the divorce case."
Ivan Underwood was amused by my dark humor, "Haha, good idea."
After a few more words, I hung up the phone, just waiting for Henry Preston to co looking for trouble with .
But after waiting two or three days, there was no call. It was like Henry Preston forgot I existed, while the news started buzzing. He had always had rumors with various actresses before. In so sense, he’s halfway into the entertainnt world.
This ti, his rumors were different, involving an unacceptable love story with a university student.
Even the headlines of the news were full of the taste of romance: Playboy falls for a female university student, Cinderella story unfolds in real life!
