Yu Huo wasn’t annoyed by his words. "No matter what you say, I still don’t agree with you developing a relationship with Fu Bing. How many prominent families have gone downhill because they married a celebrity? I don’t deny that there are people in the entertainnt industry who act earnestly and live down-to-earth lives, but Fu Bing clearly isn’t one of them."

"You haven’t even t Fu Bing up close, yet you have such strong opinions about her." Feng Yu was unconcerned about others’ opinions of Fu Bing.

He had his own eyes to judge.

He knew in his heart whether she was suitable for him or not.

Seeing that Feng Yu had made up his mind, Yu Huo wisely didn’t try to persuade him any further. They were very close in age, with only a three-month difference. They had grown up together since they were toddlers wearing open-crotch pants and knew each other very well. Feng Yu was the type of person who, the more you opposed him, the more he would do the opposite.

If Fu Bing successfully married into the Feng Family, that would truly spell trouble for them.

Feng Yu stayed the night at Yu Huo’s.

「The next day, he returned ho.」

When Feng Zhe and Yu Sihui saw him, they told him, "Go upstairs and say hello to Grandma first."

Feng Yu nodded and hurried upstairs.

Old Madam Feng had just woken up and was about to get into her wheelchair. Without a word, Feng Yu gently lifted her and placed her onto it.

Seeing him return, Old Madam Feng smiled joyfully. "Decided to co back, have you?"

Feng Yu chuckled. "Grandma, I went on a blind date last night. It was with a girl I really like."

"Really? Which family’s young lady is she?"

"Fu Bing."

Old Madam Feng said, "Oh! She’s quite a big star. It’ll be a bit challenging for you to pursue her."

"You don’t oppose it?"

"You’re still young; it’s normal to make a few friends. I think Fu Bing seems nice. You two should get to know each other first and see how things go."

"Mhm."

Feng Yu pushed her wheelchair into the elevator.

When they ca downstairs, Yu Sihui had already set all the dishes on the table. Their family had dostic staff, but they usually did things themselves if it was sothing they could easily handle.

Seeing them both with smiles in their eyes, Yu Sihui asked, "What’s the good news that has grandmother and grandson grinning from ear to ear?"

"I t soone nice on my blind date," Feng Yu admitted openly.

Yu Sihui’s smile stiffened for a mont but quickly returned to normal. "That’s good. Make sure to keep in touch with her. Don’t be like before, unwilling to chat and ending up icing the girls out."

Feng Yu didn’t miss his mother’s subtle expression. "I understand."

It seed his parents were only agreeing due to Uncle Ren’s request and didn’t actually approve of Fu Bing.

Feng Yu was annoyed internally but didn’t let it show.

After the al, he sent Fu Bing a ssage: "Do you have any plans today? If not, I’d like to take you for a drive around Jiangnan."

The ssage was sent, but there was no reply.

Fu Bing only checked her phone three days later, intending to go through all her ssages at once. She now used two phones. One was her work phone, which she checked at specific tis each day; Xiaoi usually held onto it for her. Her personal phone, she often didn’t check, sotis only looking at it once every two or three days.

It was already three days later when she saw Feng Yu’s ssage.

She replied, "Sorry, I’ve been busy these past few days and haven’t checked my personal phone. If you’re free, let’s set a ti, and I’ll treat you to a al."

She and Feng Yu couldn’t have a deeper relationship, but being friends wasn’t a bad thing.

Feng Yu texted back: "Nowadays, it’s rare for soone to go several days without using their phone."

"I spent several years in prison without a phone; I’m used to it," Fu Bing replied.

Feng Yu stared at her words, knowing what he and Fu Bing would have to face.

It wasn’t just his family’s opposition but also Fu Bing’s criminal record.

For a military marriage, her record wouldn’t pass the background check.

Fu Bing was reminding him.

Feng Yu resisted the urge to call her and sent a ssage instead: "Are you rejecting ?"

Fu Bing replied, "Sothing happened in the last couple of days that has shaken my intention to find a new boyfriend. I once thought about starting over, having a relaxed and successful relationship, and smoothly moving on to marriage and children. Now, I’m not so sure."

"Can you tell what it is? I want to know why I didn’t asure up."

"You’re a great guy, but there’s still soone lingering in my heart. Personally, if I like soone, I wouldn’t want them to have soone else in their heart, nor would I want them to not be fully committed to our relationship. I’d consider that disrespectful. I imagine you wouldn’t want to be treated that way either. I wouldn’t need to explain this to others, but I feel I owe you a clear explanation."

For a mont, Feng Yu didn’t know whether he should be grateful for Fu Bing’s honesty or dismayed that she wasn’t interested in him.

His family was worried Fu Bing would cling to him relentlessly.

The reality was, Fu Bing wished she could stay as far away from him as possible.

Feng Yu couldn’t help but ask, "You’re not actually interested in , are you?"

"You’re a great person. If it weren’t for Qin Jinhai, I would have seized the chance to get to know you," she replied.

Fu Bing sent a partial screenshot of the assets Qin Jinhai had transferred to her.

"I ca across this in the last couple of days. Qin Jinhai transferred all his private assets to . I’ve also learned so of the truth about what happened back then from other channels. I think, while my own thoughts are still muddled, I shouldn’t drag anyone else into the vortex between him and . You’ve had a smooth life so far, and in the future, you’ll easily find a girl who will have eyes only for you and cherish you completely. That person shouldn’t be ."

Feng Yu examined the list of assets carefully; they were all excellent, high-quality holdings.

He replied skeptically, "Don’t you think the timing is a bit too convenient? You just had a blind date with , and then this information imdiately cos to light."

"I’ve had this information for a while; I just hadn’t brought myself to look at it."

Feng Yu felt a sense of helplessness. "It seems we were destined to et but not to be together."

"I’m sorry for giving you a bad blind date experience."

"No need to apologize. The girls I’ve t before were even more trying—like haughty little princesses, expecting to be constantly pampered, acting all aloof and arrogant."

"Perhaps their lives have been too smooth, allowing them to live just as they please. That, in itself, is a form of good fortune."

"Viewed that way, it’s true." Feng Yu couldn’t resist asking, "Can we still see each other in the future?"

"Of course. We may not beco boyfriend and girlfriend, but we can still be friends."

A wave of imnse frustration washed over Feng Yu. Unwilling to give up, he asked, "Let’s have dinner together tonight, then."

"Okay. If you don’t mind, you can co to my place. My family mbers are pretty good cooks. My friends and subordinates often co over to eat, and they all praise their skills highly."

"Okay."

Feng Yu frustratedly ran his fingers through his hair. He didn’t know if eting Fu Bing on this blind date was a stroke of luck or misfortune.

She was honest, so honest that a part of him wished she wasn’t.

The more straightforward she was, the more clearly he understood he had no chance.

Feng Yu saw the location Fu Bing had sent, pocketed his phone, and headed downstairs.

Yu Huo was just coming in the door. "Where are you off to?"

"To have dinner with Fu Bing. Want to co?"

Yu Huo glanced at Yu Sihui, who gave a subtle nod.

"You’re not worried I’ll be a third wheel?"

"There’ll be a whole group of third wheels; one more like you won’t matter," Feng Yu tossed out the remark and headed towards the garage.

Yu Huo quickly followed.
