Zhiwen and Zhiwu, the two brothers, contentedly enjoyed a feast of at, patting their full bellies and sitting in the chair savoring the taste.
These days, they’ve been working in the fields every day and haven’t been eating well, feeling like the hard-earned at they’ve gained has quickly vanished.
"Did you eat your fill?" Jiang Changhai asked his two nephews with a smile, amused by their satisfied appearances.
"Yes, Uncle, we’re full. Aunt’s cooking is the best." Zhiwu sweetly complinted.
"Alright then, let’s head out after you finish eating, it’ll be dark soon." Jiang Changhai stood up and stretched lazily, speaking to the children.
"Let’s go, heading ho!" Zhiwen and Zhiwu cheerfully said, carrying tasty snacks with them.
Jiang Changhai rode his family’s bicycle with Jiang Mianmian sitting on the back, Yuanbin on the front, Zhiwen rode Wang Li’s old bicycle, carrying Zhiwu, and they returned to Stone Bridge Village.
Upon arriving at Stone Bridge Village, the Jiang family mbers had just finished eating, and were a bit surprised to see their sudden return.
"Eldest, why did you all co back?" Zhang Guihua asked in surprise.
"Mom, it’s because the neighbors wanted my daughter to tutor their kids, and I didn’t want her to be worn out, so I sent them back." Jiang Changhai explained simply.
"Yes, Eldest, you did the right thing. My granddaughter works so hard at her studies; finally she gets a break, how can she waste her ti tutoring them?" the old lady, always fond of her granddaughter, imdiately concurred upon hearing Jiang Changhai’s words.
"Isn’t it the truth, hehe, Mom, there’s another more important reason." Jiang Changhai teasingly continued.
"What’s the more important reason?" The old lady asked curiously.
"Your birthday is coming up, and I thought I’d bring the children back to keep you company for a few days. When your birthday arrives, we’ll organize a few tables and celebrate for you. You’ve worked hard raising us three brothers and caring for our big family all these years." Jiang Changhai said emotionally.
The old lady didn’t expect her usually unruly, often arguntative son to suddenly say sothing so touching.
Her eyes reddened slightly as she looked at him, but after thinking about it, she refused: "What’s all this? Hosting a feast costs money. You’ve earned so money now, but there are plenty of places to spend in the future. You can’t just spend recklessly and waste money."
The old lady, accustod to frugality, felt a pang considering the last ti Jiang Dashan hosted a feast and spent all that money. She wouldn’t want to waste the family’s money on villagers eating and drinking for free; that’s her at after all!
"Ah, Mom, don’t worry about saving money for . We have vegetables at ho, I only need to buy a little at, how much could it cost? Leave everything to ; I have contacts in town, so at is cheap." Jiang Changhai offered reassuringly.
"That’s right, old lady, Eldest’s heartfelt gesture, don’t turn it down." Jiang Dashan also advised.
"Yes, Mom, rember last ti you wanted to take Mianmian to my grandmother’s but couldn’t go? This ti, with your birthday, let’s invite people from my grandmother’s house over, and we can all gather. My grandmother will be happy to see you doing well, isn’t it?" Jiang Changhai, knowing well his mother’s character, knew how to persuade her most effectively.
Sure enough, upon hearing that Eldest wanted to invite her maternal family over, the old lady hesitated.
Last ti when Mianmian topped the examinations, she hadn’t had the chance to show off yet. This ti was a great opportunity!
