"Oh, alright," Big Uncle Su chuckled and headed into the courtyard.
Zhang Guihua had been picking vegetables inside the house, but upon hearing voices outside, she quickly wiped her hands and ran out.
"Oh my, so this must be Wanyu’s big uncle and aunt. I’m her mother-in-law, it’s nice to et you," Zhang Guihua greeted them eagerly.
"Elder sister, hello, I’m Wanyu’s uncle. Due to so reasons, we have not been able to visit all these years, which was quite impolite of us," Big Uncle Su said as he smiled and reached out for a handshake with the old lady.
The old lady had shaken hands with reporters who visited Stone Bridge Village before, so she knew what he ant and quickly extended her hand to shake theirs.
Jiang Mianmian, a step slower than the old lady, also ca out and confidently greeted the Su family, "Great uncle, great aunt, great auntie."
"Oh, Mianmian is such a darling," Big Uncle Su said fondly as he gently patted her head.
He had seen Jiang Mianmian in the newspapers before, and just last month, he had seen her photo in Jiang Changhai’s hand, so he was not unfamiliar with her.
"Big uncle, big aunt, big sister, this is my daughter, Jiang Mianmian," Su Wanyu introduced her daughter with a face full of pride.
Aunt Su, upon seeing her young grandniece who had been in national newspapers, was very fond of her. The child had grown even more beautiful over the years, even more pleasant to look at than the pictures in Jiang Changhai’s hands.
"Mianmian, how old are you this year, and what grade are you in?" Aunt Su asked affectionately.
"Great aunt, I’m ten years old this year. When the school reopens, I will be in grade nine," Jiang Mianmian crisply replied.
"Oh, that’s impressive. You’re in the sa grade as your older brother, and he’s four years older than you!" Aunt Su exclaid admiringly.
The older brother she ntioned was the eldest son of the Su Wanting family.
Although Su Wanting always liked comparing her daughter with her cousin, she had to admit that Jiang Mianmian was indeed an outstanding child, as seen from her essay that amazed the country.
"In-laws, mother, her cousin, let’s go inside and talk, rather than standing out here," Zhang Guihua said as she saw such a big group standing in the yard, she quickly called out to them.
"Yes, yes, big uncle, big aunt, let’s go inside," Jiang Changhai also said enthusiastically.
The Su family entered the living room, with Su Wanting following behind. As soon as she entered, she noticed the calligraphy hanging on the wall.
"Ah, the calligraphy on this scroll is really well done. The strokes are bold and dynamic. It looks like it was written by so master calligrapher," she noted.
Su Wanting was a Chinese language teacher and had loved calligraphy since she was young.
Although her own writing was average, her discerning eye was exceptional, and she realized at once that this scroll was not written by just anyone.
Upon hearing her cousin’s comnts, Su Wanyu imdiately exclaid energetically, "Big sister, you really have a good eye! That scroll was a gift from a high-ranking official in the Capital City to my daughter, to motivate her to study diligently and serve the country in the future."
You should know, she had been eager to show off this scroll for a long ti, but unfortunately, the visitors to their ho didn’t know much about calligraphy, which really frustrated her.
That feeling, it was like holding a gold brick on the street, but everyone treats it as just a regular brick, it was unbearably frustrating.
Only Su Wanting recognized the value of what she held, and she almost wanted to grab her cousin’s hand and shout, "Kindred spirit!"
