Chapter 421: Chapter 420: Happier Than Anyone Else
Yu Cheng watched Jiang Mianmian’s excited little deanor and didn’t refuse. He followed her and took off his shoes to fish in the river.
Jiang Mianmian wasn’t very skilled; she just had fun with everyone else in the river.
Although the river was full of small fish and shrimp that were hard to catch, everyone put in a lot of effort.
After more than an hour of fishing, they took their baskets, filled with the fish and shrimp they had caught with effort, and joyfully went to the Jiang’s place to exchange them for money with Jiang Changhai.
Although each family didn’t catch many fish, earning just a few cents, it didn’t take them much ti. Otherwise, they would have been idle, and earning sothing is always better than earning nothing. The villagers were quite content.
After selling the fish, the villagers all went ho, pulled vegetables from their gardens, and brought them to the Jiang Family, then helped the Jiang family mbers cook.
As the saying goes, many hands make light work. Most of the won in the village were busy helping at the Jiang family’s ho. It only took a little over two hours to prepare all the dishes needed for the birthday feast.
Once the food was ready, the villagers went ho and brought their own tables, chairs, and bowls and chopsticks. This was also a custom of Stone Bridge Village.
After all, with so many people coming to eat, no one had enough bowls, chopsticks, or tables and chairs, so those attending the feast brought their own and would take them back after the al.
When the auspicious ti arrived, the village won started serving the dishes. The hundred pounds of at Jiang Changhai had brought back were almost all used up.
Each table had two large platters of at, fried small fish, and fried baby shrimp, and stir-fried vegetables. Seeing such a lavish spread, the villagers’ eyes widened, and sounds of swallowing salivarily erged intermittently during the feast.
After everyone had offered their birthday wishes, Jiang Dashan picked up his chopsticks and announced the start of the al, and the villagers couldn’t wait to start devouring the at.
“Mmm, this is delicious; the at is really good.”
“The fried fish is also tasty. If you ask , these things are best when fried. My mom is always too stingy with oil, always steaming them, which is no wonder they aren’t tasty.”
The villagers continued to eat, talking and discussing between bites.
After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, with the tables now a complete ss, the village won chatted and laughed while helping the Jiang family mbers clean up the dishes. Once finished, they all took their own things and went back ho.
“Guihua, the way your family handled the feast today was so beautiful. Watching your villagers eat, every one of them smacking their lips and burping, and they kept praising you all as they left,” Zhang Guihua’s mother gushed excitedly with gesturing hands.
Seeing her daughter doing well and being admired by everyone in the village made her happier than anyone else.
Big Sister-in-law Zhang also chid in, “Yes, seeing how well you are doing now, Mum and I can finally rest easy. Otherwise, Mum has always been worrying about you at ho.”
Big Sister-in-law Zhang saw that the Jiang family mbers had prospered and her attitude towards Zhang Guihua changed. She was no longer as critical as before but started to ingratiate herself.
“Mum, you can rest assured now, there’s no need to worry about anymore. Now Changhai and San Ya have done well, and the second brother has a son too. I don’t have much to worry about now,” Zhang Guihua said, holding her mother’s hand happily.
“That’s good, that’s good, you have finally co through it all. There are better days ahead. Alright, it’s getting late now, so your big sister-in-law, your nephew, and I should head back ho,” Old Lady Zhang said, patting Zhang Guihua’s hand.
“Mum, wait a mont.”
