“Hmm? Granny…” Jiang Mianmian, in a daze, saw Zhang Guihua and rubbed her eyes as she called out.
Why was she dreaming about her granny?
And she was just as fierce as in reality.
But Su Wanyu was instantly wide awake and looked at the stern-faced old lady asking, “Mom, why are you here?”
“You still dare to ask why I’m here? I’m asking you, why didn’t San Ya go to the exam yesterday? Do you not want the scholarship anymore? What on earth are you planning?” Zhang Guihua’s eyes were wide open with fury, as if she wanted to gobble the mother and daughter up.
“Mom, who told you Mianmian didn’t take the exam?” Su Wanyu was completely puzzled.
“You still want to hide it from ? Zhiwu already told , he didn’t see San Ya at all when he was taking his exam,” Zhang Guihua shouted, her voice almost shaking the roof off.
Jiang Mianmian quickly covered her ears, thinking her granny could go learn the lion’s roar.
Su Wanyu, however, couldn’t simply cover her ears and softly explained, “Mom, you’ve misunderstood, Mianmian did go to take the exam, but she took the fifth-grade entrance exam instead. It’s normal that Zhiwu didn’t see her.”
Upon hearing this, Zhang Guihua was first startled, then her face showed surprise and confusion, asking, “The fifth-grade entrance exam? Isn’t San Ya just in fourth grade? How could she be taking the fifth-grade exam?”
But knowing that Jiang Mianmian hadn’t missed the exam, the anger in her heart subsided quite a bit.
With a smile, Su Wanyu said, “Mom, Mianmian is a smart child. She learned the fifth-grade curriculum on her own and wanted to take the promotion exam directly. The principal and teachers agreed with her after knowing and even said she would definitely achieve good grades. Brother Hai and I also thought it was worth a try.”
After hearing this, Zhang Guihua’s face imdiately brightened up, and she praised with a grin, “Oh, my dear granddaughter, you’re so smart to take the promotion exam directly. Next sester, won’t you be a junior high student? You really bring honor to the Old Jiang Family! You two haven’t had breakfast yet, right? Granny will go make you so breakfast now.”
Zhang Guihua went off to the kitchen, cheerful and light-footed, after saying this to herself.
Looking at the fine grains in the kitchen, she habitually muttered, “Eldest son’s family really doesn’t know how to live. How can they eat refined grains all the ti? At this rate, no amount of money will be enough for them.”
While muttering, she began to cook, first taking out two eggs to fry sunny-side up, then adding both eggs to a big bowl of noodles for Eldest and boiling so greens.
As for herself and Su Wanyu, they each had a small bowl of plain noodle soup with greens.
This was only because the house only had fine grains; otherwise, a bowl of coarse grain porridge for each mother-in-law and daughter-in-law would have sufficed.
While Zhang Guihua was cooking, Su Wanyu and Jiang Mianmian had already gotten up and washed up.
Seeing the three noticeably different bowls of noodles, Jiang Mianmian softly spoke up, “Granny, each of you should have one of these sunny-side up eggs.”
As she spoke, she picked up the eggs intending to place them in the old lady’s bowl.
But the old lady chuckled and said, “Your mom and I won’t eat them; my sweet granddaughter, you have them. You need to nourish your brain with all the studying you do every day.”
Although Su Wanyu wanted to eat them, she had to reluctantly nod in agreent out of respect for her mother-in-law, “Right, you eat them yourself, that’s fine.”
And although she was thin, she had a big appetite; a small bowl of noodles would only fill her up to seventy percent, and she couldn’t go and cook so more.
In fear of another scolding from her mother-in-law.
After eating, Zhang Guihua was in no hurry to leave, “Eldest son’s wife, let’s clean up the house a bit. Look at this ss; there’s hardly any space to set foot.”
