Chapter 274: Chapter 268
Emily Parker’s eyes carried a hint of helplessness; she never expected that there would be a day when Carlos would beco her special assistant.
Just during breakfast, she learned of Oliver Ross’s resignation. Although her heart skipped a beat, she quickly regained her composure.
Even without Oliver Ross, with the docunts he previously provided, she was more than capable of handling the Carter Clan’s affairs.
But the turn of events was beyond her expectations. Evan Palr suddenly suggested that Adam Willow take over Oliver Ross’s work. Emily raised an eyebrow, preparing to refuse, but Mrs. Carter stood up first with a firm voice and said,
“No, I don’t agree with Adam Willow taking over. Carlos, you should be Emily’s assistant.”
Emily thought Carlos would refuse, given his usual arrogance, but Carlos only smiled slightly, nodded gently, and said,
“Okay.”
Emily looked towards Mrs. Carter and Maria Carter, seeing Mrs. Carter’s satisfied smile while Maria’s eyes sparkled brightly as she gestured a thumbs-up to Carlos.
Emily bit her lip, finally nodding and softly saying, “Alright.”
The couple thus went to the company together.
Carlos’s voice seed to linger in her mind.
Emily couldn’t help but turn to glance at Carlos, seeing him in a well-tailored dark suit, with a few reconciling features between his brows and a playful smirk looking down at Adam Willow.
He had been outside the conference room for a while and had heard the departnt managers’ comnts, particularly their sarcasm towards Emily.
He rembered each one.
Emily walked into the conference room and just announced this result when the room instantly fell silent.
The departnt managers exchanged glances, no one expected Junior President Carter to be kicked out of the company just days ago, only to return now.
Adam Willow’s face suddenly turned pale as he sat in his chair, gripping the armrest tightly, his eyes filled with shock.
He initially thought he had a chance to take over Oliver Ross’s work, but now Carlos unexpectedly replaced him, his mood taking a roller coaster ride with an earth-shaking change.
“Welco, Assistant Carter.”
Adam Willow quickly regained his composure, stood up first, his face full of smiles, and walked briskly forward.
His smile carried a hint of deliberate warmth, though his eyes flickered slightly. Carlos raised an eyebrow slightly, the corners of his mouth curving indistinctly, thinking to himself,
“This Adam Willow has certainly made so progress.”
Carlos also smiled, speaking lightly,
“Assistant Willow, you’re too kind. From now on, we’re both assistants. We’ll need to cooperate more.”
He extended his hand and tightly shook hands with Adam Willow.
Their handshake appeared ordinary, but only they knew the intense tension when their eyes t.
The two sat down separately, Adam Willow across from Carlos, sitting upright, while Carlos leaned on the chair back, legs crossed, half reclining, his gaze calmly sweeping across the conference room.
Evan Palr then cleared his throat and began the formal eting.
“Everyone should already know, the Carter Clan has multiple projects to push forward recently.”
Evan Palr’s voice was low and powerful, appearing particularly serious.
His gaze swept over everyone present, nodding slightly.
“The most important one is the tripartite collaboration with Eastern Hospital and the Sterling Research Institute.”
Evan Palr paused, then continued,
“This project is of great significance to us at the Carter Clan. It concerns not only the company’s future developnt but also involves our long-term relationship with partners.
So, I hope everyone can give their best effort.”
He signaled Adam Willow to distribute the relevant docunts.
Adam Willow stood up, picked up a stack of docunts, and skillfully distributed them to Emily and each departnt manager.
Emily accepted the docunts, her eyes focused as she began to flip through them.
Her brows carried a hint of contemplation, seemingly pondering every detail of this project.
Carlos also took the docunts, and the conference room was silent, with only the sound of pages turning lightly echoing in the air.
“Collaborate with Blackstone Group? I hadn’t heard about this before,” Emily swiftly glanced at the docunts, her brow furrowing sharply.
She slightly furrowed her brow, a complex light flashing in her eyes as she recalled so unpleasant experiences.
Seeing Emily’s confusion, Evan Palr said calmly,
“This matter was proposed before Manager Parker ca, so it’s not surprising you’re unaware.
Everyone should have heard about Blackstone, right?
It’s considered a super ga enterprise renowned internationally.”
He paused, his voice carrying a trace of pride, as if emphasizing the weight of Blackstone Group,
“The companies it invests in are countless successes.
This ti, we were chosen by Blackstone, thanks to Assistant Willow’s carefully prepared project proposal.”
Saying this, Evan Palr looked at Emily with a aningful glance, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, his eyes carrying a hint of disdain, as if to say,
“How much insight can a little nurse have.”
If it weren’t for Adam Willow’s idea, Evan Palr wouldn’t have thought of Blackstone Group, and the contact with Blackstone had always been secret, even Oliver Ross was unaware.
Of course, Emily Parker had heard of Blackstone Group, and she had even “crossed paths” with its behind-the-scenes boss several tis, both overtly and covertly.
The two were considered old foes, although they had never t.
She knew Blackstone Group’s style all too well—bold moves, profit above all else, notorious as a giant in the international venture capital arena.
The Carter Clan partnering with it are likely to be utterly devoured.
Emily’s face darkened, she raised her head, her gaze firm as she looked at Evan Palr, her tone calm and decisive:
“I disagree.”
Her voice wasn’t loud, yet it echoed through the conference room, appearing especially resolute.
The departnt managers heard Emily’s opposition and began whispering again.
The conference room was suddenly filled with slight buzzing sounds, and everyone’s gaze unanimously focused on Emily Parker.
Evan Palr’s expression turned grim, a hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes. He slightly frowned, pondering secretly,
“This Emily Parker really doesn’t belong here.”
Evan cleared his throat, his tone carrying a touch of severity,
“Manager Parker, on what grounds do you disagree?
The group has so many projects every year, the investnt funds are limited, and the funding requirent proposed by Sterling Research Institute exceeds our group’s budget. Introducing third-party cooperation is the best solution at this ti.”
He paused and continued,
“Blackstone Group’s strength is well-known, their investnt can not only solve the financial issue but also bring more resources and opportunities to the project.”
“Chairman Palr, we can introduce a third party, but not Blackstone.”
Emily’s voice remained calm and resolute, eting Evan’s gaze,
“Have you looked into Blackstone Group?
Do you know how many companies it has bought low and sold high in the past decade?
How many employees were laid off because of it, how many companies went bankrupt?”
Emily’s words were like a bombshell, instantly setting the conference room ablaze.
The departnt managers exchanged glances, whispering voices rose one after another, and the conference room beca bustling.
They didn’t expect Emily to question Blackstone Group so directly, even less did they expect her understanding of it to be so profound.
Evan Palr’s expression subtly changed, he hadn’t expected Emily to be so firm, even less had he foreseen her pinpointing Blackstone Group’s problems directly.
Was it possible that before Oliver Ross resigned, he heard sothing and gave the relevant information to Emily Parker?
He slightly frowned, a hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes, but he quickly restored his calm,
“Manager Parker, Blackstone Group’s power is not to be underestimated, their investnt is a rare opportunity for us.
As for their style, I’ve certainly heard of it, but I don’t think we, the Carter Clan, should be compared to those companies teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.”
Emily remained unyielding,
“Chairman Palr, then how can you be sure that the Carter Clan won’t be squeezed dry and discarded? Won’t we be their next prey?”
Emily’s words made the atmosphere in the conference room even tenser.
The departnt managers all bowed their heads, not daring to voice their opinions easily.
Carlos raised his eyebrows slightly, a bit of surprise in his eyes.
He hadn’t expected Emily to know so much about Blackstone Group, even less did he expect her to oppose it so firmly.
He slightly tilted his head, his eyes lingering on Emily for a mont, seeming to be pondering sothing.
“Emily, what do you an?” Evan Palr abruptly stood up, anger flickering in his eyes,
“Are you saying that our Carter Clan will be annexed by Blackstone Group? What evidence do you have?”
Emily slightly smiled, her eyes carrying a bit of certainty,
“Chairman Palr, I have no evidence, but I have common sense. Blackstone Group’s style has long been infamous internationally, their investnts are never re financial support, but a ans of corporate control.
Our Carter Clan has developed so far with difficulty, do we really want to fall into danger because of one investnt?”
Emily’s words plunged everyone in the conference room into silence.
Evan Palr’s expression was unpredictable, he hadn’t anticipated Emily to be so tough, even less did he expect her to rebut so logically and reasonably.
While Carlos’ eyes flickered, he hadn’t expect Emily not only to be so knowledgeable about Blackstone Group but also to analyze the situation so calmly.
“Then let’s vote,”
Evan Palr’s attitude was also resolute,
“This project has reached a critical stage, we can’t give up lightly.”
Evan’s eyes carried a hint of disdain, even if Emily disagreed, so what, she and a useless Carlos wouldn’t change this vote, he was sure to win.
