Chapter 272: Chapter 266
Emily and Carlos went downstairs together.
After haphazardly signing the agreent last night, they tacitly didn’t bring up the previous matters, as if Rainny White’s upheaval had never occurred.
In the dining room, Evan Palr was already seated at one end of the table, looking at news on his phone.
Seeing Emily and Carlos appear together, his gaze darkened slightly, and his lips pressed together unconsciously.
He originally thought that after the news incident involving Rainny White, Emily and Carlos would definitely get divorced.
After all, Emily had now acquired so many shares and her position within the Carter Clan Group was secure enough that Carlos seed to be no longer necessary.
Yet, the scene in front of him was a shock; not only had they not divorced, but they seed to have reconciled.
Carlos even wore a faint smile, with a hint of delight in his eyes, which made Evan Palr feel even more uncomfortable inside.
Emily’s gaze lingered on Mrs. Carter’s and Maria’s faces for a mont.
Mrs. Carter was wearing a light purple cheongsam, appearing elegant and dignified, with a gentle smile on her face, though her eyes concealed a trace of deeper aning.
As usual, Maria Carter sweetly called Emily her sister-in-law, pulling her to sit beside her.
Emily secretly speculated about who had switched her divorce agreent.
She thought it was probably Maria Carter, that little girl was quite quirky and bold in her actions.
But Mrs. Carter seed to be aware too; Maria alone wouldn’t dare do such a thing.
In this way, Emily found herself in quite a dilemma.
Old Master Carter and Mrs. Carter were both very kind to her, especially since Old Master Carter was still in a coma; she really didn’t want to do anything distressing at this mont.
Emily sighed inwardly, her gaze slightly dimming, realizing that the divorce matter could only be temporarily put aside.
Emily just sat down by the dining table when Mrs. Carter spoke up.
Her voice was soft and calm, with a hint of concern,
“Emily, Oliver Ross submitted his resignation to last night, saying due to personal reasons, he can no longer serve as your assistant secretary.”
Mrs. Carter’s voice echoed in the dining room, coming across particularly clear.
Upon hearing this, Evan Palr was inwardly overjoyed.
In his view, Emily managed to stand firm at the board eting yesterday only because she had the support of the veteran Oliver Ross.
Now with Oliver Ross resigning, Emily suddenly lost her most capable aide, rendering her unable to maneuver within the Carter Clan Group.
Evan Palr’s lips curled in a slight smirk, his eyes flashing an inkling of triumph, as if already witnessing the predicant Emily was about to face.
“What should we do? Emily is now over 5 months pregnant, how can she manage without an assistant secretary?”
Maria exclaid, her small face flushed red and eyes wide open, appearing sowhat anxious.
Her small hands tightly gripped the skirt’s hem, eyes full of worry, as if fearing that Emily would fall into difficulty due to Oliver Ross’s resignation.
Emily glanced across at Carlos, whose movents paused slightly, the knife and fork cutting into his steak also coming to a halt, showing so surprise on his face; evidently, he hadn’t known about Oliver Ross’s resignation.
Carlos’s brows furrowed slightly, eyes reflecting a hint of doubt and concern.
He raised his head, his gaze resting on Evan Palr montarily, carrying a scrutinizing, doubtful look.
He suspected whether this matter was related to Evan Palr, given that Evan Palr had always been dissatisfied with Emily’s standing.
Yet Carlos also knew that he was no longer part of the board, lacking authority over such important personnel changes.
He frowned slightly, seemingly pondering sothing.
Evan Palr heard Maria’s words, and his lips curled in another unnoticed smirk of delight.
He responded with a smile,
“If Emily can’t manage, then let my secretary handle the matters.
He’s very capable and surely won’t disappoint the board.”
Evan Palr’s voice echoed in the dining room, appearing particularly clear.
Saying this, his gaze landed on Mrs. Carter.
Mrs. Carter had always been one of the key decision-makers for the Carter Clan Group, her opinions holding significant weight in family affairs.
Evan Palr was well aware of this, his gaze carrying a hint of expectation, considering that Mrs. Carter always tended to heed his words without reservation, surely this ti would be no exception.
However, to Evan Palr’s surprise, Mrs. Carter gently shook her head upon hearing his words.
Her face bore a faint smile, yet her tone was quite resolute,
“If mory serves, your secretary is newly hired as well, not familiar with the internal affairs of the company, unlikely to offer much help.
I’ve already had soone in mind for Emily’s assistant.”
Mrs. Carter’s voice was gentle but powerful, each word imbued with indisputable authority.
Her gaze briefly swept over Evan Palr, seemingly conveying to him that the matter had already been decided, with no need for further discussion.
The atmosphere in the dining room beca subtly delicate; Evan Palr’s expression fell slightly, eyes flashing displeasure, but soon regained his composure, though the smile at his lips beca sowhat stiff.
Emily felt slightly relieved upon hearing Mrs. Carter’s words.
Carlos said nothing, rely took a bite of steak, chewing in silence.
As long as Adam Willow wasn’t appointed Emily’s secretary, he was indifferent to anyone else.
