"He's dead... I caused his death."
Shao Yichen held the script, stiffly reciting the lines while rehearsing with Li Xingyu.
As she read, she pondered how she had ended up in this situation, finding it increasingly suspicious, feeling as if she'd fallen into so new kind of pyramid sche trap.
Why not ask Duan Wenyue, the female lead, to practice lines! Is it because we finished work too early today, and you want to show off your diligence in front of the director?!
Really, there's no need!
Be wary of Li Xingyu and avoid new pyramid sche traps.
Shao Yichen couldn't understand how she had agreed to Li Xingyu's request. Thinking back, it was probably because his expression had been too sincere, and she accidentally let him crash into her heart at 180 kiloters per hour, successfully physically moving her heart.
This wasn't her fault, of course—just think about those fans who were crazy about Li Xingyu, obsessed with him, willing to crash into walls for him! Although Li Xingyu never gave them the opportunity to crash into walls, Shao Yichen believed that at his command, they would happily crash into walls and even form a new wall with their bodies.
In comparison, she had only fallen into Li Xingyu's beauty trap once, and had quickly co to her senses, already making her a role model among fans.
Shao Yichen comforted herself with this thought.
Across from her, Li Xingyu gazed at her, already in character. It had to be said that being able to get into character opposite soone with Shao Yichen's level of line delivery showed his trendous professional quality.
This scene was technically quite late in the plot and wasn't particularly important for Li Xingyu's character, but it was a rare highlight for the Heart Demon character.
By this point, both the male and female leads had vaguely rembered their past lives in the Demonic Sect. After the Heart Demon joined them, they traveled together for a while. During this ti, the female lead mistakenly believed the Heart Demon was the one who had rescued her from the dungeon and grew close to him. The Heart Demon, under this care, gradually beca genuinely moved, but he couldn't understand these strange feelings arising within him, not knowing this was human love and desire, and could only suffer alone.
As for the male lead, he naturally developed feelings while spending ti with the female lead, but with his great revenge mission and the female lead seemingly preferring the Heart Demon, he could only suppress his emotions while investigating the Demonic Sect's conspiracy.
After a light-hearted emotional storyline of "you love him, I love you, but you don't love ," the plot took a sharp turn. The Demonic Sect attacked again, the Heart Demon was lured away by design, and the male and female leads were surrounded. To save the female lead, the male lead took the Demonic Sect's powerful attack, suffering severe injuries with no hope of recovery.
When the male lead took the fatal blow for her, the female lead finally realized that the mysterious person who rescued her from the dungeon wasn't the Heart Demon as she had thought, but the male lead Qi Changge. Her heart was torn, past and present lives rging in her soul, and she finally understood her identity, reclaiming her divine powers and instantly killing the Demonic Sect's attackers. But despite her power, she couldn't bring the male lead back to life and could only watch helplessly as his life ebbed away.
The Heart Demon could have arrived when the male and female leads were under attack, but hoping to replace the male lead, he hesitated and gave up the chance. Therefore, when he arrived at the scene, he faced a heartbroken female lead and a gravely injured male lead.
According to Shao Yichen's thinking—this was the perfect opportunity for the Heart Demon to take advantage! Weren't his previous arrangents and planning all about replacing the male lead? Now that the male lead was nearly dead, what was he waiting for? Hurry up and recite the soul-stealing incantation!
However, if the drama had followed Shao Yichen's logic from the beginning, this story might have turned into a long male-focused leveling-up series centered on the Heart Demon. Or at least it would have beco a cultivation world mystery where the male lead discovers four Demonic Sects with the sa na, each suspected of destroying his sect, each claiming responsibility for the terrorist attack, and the male lead needs to find the true culprit...
But there was a reason this work was classified as romance.
Shao Yichen clearly rembered that the following plot was what she considered the pinnacle of love-brain thinking and plot twists, making her want to grab the Heart Demon's head and shake it to see if it was filled with water.
Because not only did the Heart Demon fail to take advantage of the situation, but seeing the female lead weeping over the dying male lead, he actually felt heartache!
He not only felt heartache, but he even abandoned all hope for himself, choosing to rge with the male lead to give him a chance at survival—if the male lead could break free from the Heart Demon and the chaotic demonic barrier, he could dispel the Heart Demon and gain the power he had always dread of; if he couldn't break free from the nightmare, the Heart Demon and male lead would perish together.
Shao Yichen was filled with question marks.
Regardless of whether the male lead lost out, the Heart Demon's choice was definitely a losing proposition! Tell , do you also have a money-losing system?
As soone pragmatic like her, she really couldn't understand the Heart Demon's choice.
And judging by the fact that Li Xingyu had co to deliberately practice this part of the script with her, Li Xingyu probably also found this love-brained Heart Demon's choice confusing...
Thinking this, Shao Yichen noticed that Li Xingyu had already continued with the next line. He frowned slightly: "Why do you cry?"
"...You need not know." With her divine status restored, the female lead naturally knew the Heart Demon's origins. After realizing her feelings for the Heart Demon were based entirely on misunderstanding, she wouldn't even look at him again, only holding the unconscious person in her arms more tightly. "How could a creature like you understand human emotions... I mistook you for soone else."
She refused to look back, so the Heart Demon slowly walked forward. He still wore his black robes, but his mask had fallen off during the previous battle, revealing a face identical to Qi Changge lying on the ground.
He walked to the female lead's side, simply gazing at her.
...Shao Yichen held the script, trying hard to stare straight ahead, pretending to be as heartbroken as the female lead, but still found the gaze next to her cheek too intense to ignore.
Was the Heart Demon always this forceful? No wonder the female lead initially noticed the Heart Demon instead of the male lead...
Then she heard the Heart Demon, no, Li Xingyu, sigh beside her.
"I still don't understand what the Heart Demon is thinking." He broke character, his voice sounding troubled.
Shao Yichen breathed a sigh of relief, finally no longer maintaining that silly posture of embracing thin air. She turned to look at Li Xingyu: "I don't understand either—ahem, I an, that's how the author wrote it, and readers didn't question it, which ans this plot arrangent has its reasonableness."
"Maybe the transformation is too abrupt." Li Xingyu thought for a mont and analyzed, "We haven't fild the earlier scenes of interaction between the Heart Demon and the female lead yet, so we haven't felt the process of the Heart Demon falling in love. It seems we need to strengthen this point in the upcoming filming."
"Then I'll add so scenes between the Heart Demon and the female lead in the script—anyway, adding scenes for either the Heart Demon or Qi Changge ans adding scenes for you, there's no difference." Shao Yichen calculated in her mind how to revise the script.
"When emotions develop naturally, the character's reaction simply follows that flow." Li Xingyu nodded, thinking that adding scenes between the Heart Demon and the female lead should be the right decision. "After that, it's just a matter of clarifying the logic."
"Why would the Heart Demon sacrifice himself to save the male lead? Given his previous attitude toward the male lead, it's not because he has any feelings for him. On the contrary, the male lead's impending death is exactly what he wanted to see. If that's the case, the only possible reason for his choice is the female lead." Li Xingyu continued analyzing.
Shao Yichen nodded: "Maybe he couldn't bear to see the female lead cry."
"That might be part of the reason, but probably not all of it." Li Xingyu thought while organizing his words. "I'm thinking this plot in the script might be missing a link."
"What content?" Shao Yichen asked curiously.
For previous films, she probably wouldn't have cared about such suggestions, but to make this film stand out in comparison with the TV series, Shao Yichen felt she should appropriately revise the script.
Of course, so book fans would inevitably have objections, which Shao Yichen also...
"Content showing the Heart Demon recognizing the gap between himself and Qi Changge, thus giving up," said Li Xingyu.
"In previous scenes, the Heart Demon has been willful and self-centered. Whenever there's an opportunity, he seizes it and tries. I think if we want the Heart Demon to completely give up, we need to make him thoroughly realize that he has no chance in this matter."
"You an, regarding his feelings for the female lead?" Shao Yichen seed to understand.
Li Xingyu nodded: "Yes. The length of the scene isn't that important, but there needs to be an emotional turning point."
Having said this, he paused, then suddenly asked: "Director, could you smile?"
Shao Yichen: ...
She hesitated for a long ti, then grimaced, showing a fierce smile.
Li Xingyu burst into laughter.
Shao Yichen was embarrassed and angry: "What are you laughing at! If I could smile naturally, I wouldn't be typecast as a female ghost!"
Li Xingyu comforted her with an amused expression: "That's not it... I just feel my understanding of the Heart Demon has deepened another level."
Shao Yichen: ?
Li Xingyu mysteriously said: "Perhaps you should also add an expression for the female lead toward the Heart Demon in the final script."
He didn't elaborate further and left after saying goodbye to Shao Yichen. Although she didn't understand why he added that last sentence, she understood his implication: what content to add for the Heart Demon was up to her as the director to decide.
She had never done adaptation before, so the pressure was considerable.
...Forget it! Everyone else in the crew was working hard! Jiang Miaomiao prayed for rain every day to create better weather effects, almost at the point of renting planes for artificial rainfall! Qin Lu was so busy that his manga updates were delayed again, with fans flooding his Weibo comnts demanding updates! Duan Wenyue had lost another five jin! Little Bai wore a mask all day, getting acne from the heat!
She couldn't keep holding them back!
Shao Yichen opened the script and began to make changes.
After deleting and adding, she ultimately only added one line. After consideration, she did as Li Xingyu suggested and added an expression for the female lead in the script.
...After all, sotis one sentence is enough to make soone give up hope.
