When a business grows large, internal parasites are inevitable. This has been an unavoidable truth for thousands of years. From Wang Tuohai’s perspective, his goal was to grow and strengthen the company, leading it to new heights of glory. However, so of his employees did not share this vision.
Take Xiao Yun, for example. His thod was to cast a wide net, signing all sorts of newcors and helping them debut. If they beca famous, they would earn money for the company and a commission for him. If they didn’t, he would simply bleed them dry. If anyone dared to leave the company to seek other opportunities, they would find an enormous breach-of-contract penalty waiting for them. This mode of operation was a surefire moneymaker that couldn’t lose. At most, it might prick one’s conscience. However, people who prioritize profit above all else don’t have a conscience to begin with!
"Mr. Shen, this is indeed a result of my negligent managent." Wang Tuohai realized that if he didn’t handle such problems soon, the reputation of Jinhai Records would be irrevocably tarnished. By then, the public relations crisis would threaten the company’s very survival, which was no small matter.
"Hurry up and write your resignation letter," Wang Tuohai told Xiao Yun when he had a mont. He added, "As for your dereliction of duty, embezzlent, and various other violations, that’s a separate issue. I will hold you accountable. Get ready for prison."
Xiao Yun was speechless.
"And as for that so-called top star you propped up, have him pack his bags and get out with you."
With Wang Tuohai handling it personally, the matter was resolved with swift efficiency. Seeing that it was concluded, Shen Fanyun intended to give a few instructions and then leave. Wang Tuohai, however, insisted on inviting him to dinner. After all, it wasn’t every day that he ca to Hangcheng City, and eting Shen Fanyun was a rare opportunity.
Shen Fanyun wasn’t a fan of crowds and invariably avoided such social gatherings. However, recalling Lu Feiyan’s words and wishes from the previous night, he said, "Alright then."
"I’ll also recomnd soone to you," he continued. "Her voice, looks, and professional skills are definitely on par with the stars at your company."
Wang Tuohai’s eyes lit up. He knew exactly who Shen Fanyun ant. "That girl nad Lu Feiyan?"
Shen Fanyun nodded.
Wang Tuohai, of course, jumped at the chance. In this day and age, having Shen Fanyun owe you a favor was a once-in-a-lifeti blessing that many could only dream of.
"Hahaha, absolutely! My company happens to have a new project to groom a talented newcor for the global superstar track. We have the resources and the team all ready."
Wang Tuohai laughed heartily. Whether such a plan actually existed or if it was a spur-of-the-mont idea to curry favor, Shen Fanyun couldn’t be bothered to find out.
"See you tonight, then," Shen Fanyun said, bidding him farewell.
Lu Feiyan slept until noon. Staring at her bedroom walls, which were plastered with pop star posters and filled with various musical instrunts, including a guitar she had used for years, a naless rage surged within her. With my dream of becoming a singer shattered, what’s the point of keeping these things?
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Shen Fanyun. Lu Feiyan had given him her number last night, unable to refuse him. Now, she hesitated, wondering if she should even answer.
"Hello? What do you want?" Lu Feiyan asked, her voice flat.
"I took care of that matter for you," Shen Fanyun said. "Also, there’s a major player from the entertainnt industry in Hangcheng City tonight. I’ll take you to et him. He’s very interested in your voice and talent and specifically asked to et you by na to talk things over."
Shen Fanyun kept it brief and gave her the address for dinner that night.
Her experience with Zheng Nan had left her deeply scarred. Will I have to give sothing up again? Is this the casting couch? Trading my body to get ahead?
Shen Fanyun was silent for a mont.
"With backing you, who the fuck would have the gall to try and pull sothing like that on you? Don’t they know you’re my woman?" he swore.
Lu Feiyan burst out laughing.
Although his words were crude, why did they feel so warm?
That’s right, I am your woman! I was ten years ago. And I still am, ten years later.
"Can I... can I really do it?" she hesitated, still worried she wasn’t good enough and would waste Shen Fanyun’s kindness.
"If I say you can, you definitely can!" Shen Fanyun stated firmly.
"Okay then. I’ll get ready and et you later," Lu Feiyan agreed.
She hung up, and just then, Lu Jinshu pushed the door open. Her grandfather stood at the entrance without coming in. "Back then, Fanyun had circumstances beyond his control. Knowing his personality, if he’d had the ti, he definitely would have given you a proper farewell."
Lu Feiyan remained silent.
"His hands were tied. You shouldn’t cling to the past and imprison yourself. A person has to look forward, after all."
Lu Feiyan blinked but didn’t respond to her grandfather.
I waited for you for ten years. I suffered for ten years. How could I forgive you so easily?
"Hmph, I’m not so spineless that I’d forgive him just for a few sweet words. That would be letting him off way too easily," Lu Feiyan muttered with a frown.
Lu Jinshu laughed heartily. That was all he needed to hear. He now understood what was on his granddaughter’s mind. Ah, young won. They’re all like this, saying one thing while their actions say another.
"Grandpa, how about I wear a dress today?" Lu Feiyan asked, jumping up from her bed.
「Ten years ago.」
In Shen Fanyun’s mory, Lu Feiyan was a genuine tomboy—lively and vibrant, usually dressed in a unisex style. With her looks, however, she never lacked for admirers, no matter what she wore.
However, over a decade ago, Shen Fanyun had once remarked that he hoped to one day see her in a dress, sitting there quietly and gracefully. A girl, after all, should look like a girl.
She had always kept those words in her heart. Unfortunately, ten years had passed, and she’d never had the chance to make it happen—to stand confidently in a long, flowing dress where Shen Fanyun could easily see her.
"It’s not like you’re dressing up for an old man like . I’m not interested in giving you advice. I’m outta here," Lu Jinshu said, rcilessly bursting her bubble.
Lu Feiyan glared and snarled, "Are you asking for it?"
Lu Jinshu left, chuckling.
Ultimately, Lu Feiyan chose a light green dress patterned with willow leaves. Now, what should I wear on top? She was suddenly lost in thought. Ten years ago, that guy had teased for being small, like a plain, soft stead bun with no texture to hold. But ten years later...?
Lu Feiyan stood before her vanity mirror, looking at her ample chest, and slowly straightened her posture. Good heavens, I haven’t paid attention in a while. Have I gotten even bigger?
"Oh my gosh, I’m already this old and I’m still growing?"
Lu Feiyan crossed her arms over her chest and muttered, "So big and tender... you stinking brat, you’re really getting a bargain!"
