Shi Yang first went to find Zhang Xin because Qu Chaozong, who had a plaster cast, was unable to move and needed soone to take care of him.
Shi Yang thought for a mont and called Zhang Xin, bringing her out from the ward.
Zhang Xin opened the ward door and saw Shi Yang standing outside, sowhat puzzled, she asked, "Why didn’t you co in?"
Shi Yang said, "Chaozi has a fractured left leg and is already in the hospital. Co with to see him, he needs soone to look after him."
Zhang Xin’s face changed color upon hearing this: "What? Where is he? Is it serious? Quickly, take there!"
Shi Yang only said that Qu Chaozong’s left leg was fractured and didn’t elaborate further.
Shi Yang led Zhang Xin to the ward, and Zhang Xin went inside.
When they parted ways in the morning, Qu Chaozong was still happily telling her he would co back at noon to take her to eat stew from across the street. Within a few hours, he was lying on a hospital bed, with his left leg in a plaster cast, hung high, hospital gown sleeve rolled up to his shoulders, with two severe abrasions on his arm.
Zhang Xin saw his condition, her eyes turned red, and she rushed to the bedside, "Chaozi, how are you?"
Qu Chaozong had only injured his leg, and his spirits were still good, so he smiled and said, "I’m fine, it’s just a fracture in my left leg, don’t worry."
Zhang Xin carefully looked at the raised left leg, without saying a word, reached out to pull up Qu Chaozong’s loose hospital gown.
Qu Chaozong let out a cry, deliberately teasing her, "What are you doing? We’re in the ward, with so many people watching, be mindful of the impact."
Zhang Xin didn’t pay him any mind, thoroughly checked him up and down to make sure there were no other injuries, and finally relaxed, pulled down his clothes and glared at Qu Chaozong, "You really scared to death!"
Qu Chaozong held Zhang Xin’s hand, "I’m really okay."
Zhang Xin’s worried heart settled, and she rembered to ask, "How did it happen? How does one fracture their leg like that?"
Qu Chaozong stalled, "I accidentally fell."
Zhang Xin didn’t believe him, "Were you climbing a mountain? How can a fall fracture your leg?"
Qu Chaozong paused and said, "Really, it was just a monary bad luck!"
Zhang Xin frowned, "What kind of montary bad luck could cause this?"
Qu Chaozong explained, "I missed a step coming downstairs, it was really an accident."
Zhang Xin finally believed him, empathetically said, "Does it hurt? Did you get an X-ray? What did the doctor say?"
Qu Chaozong, "It’s just a fracture, it will heal after so ti."
Zhang Xin looked at the ward environnt, "This place is too noisy, stifling and hot, and there’s no air conditioning. I’ll find soone to transfer you to another ward."
Qu Chaozong reached out to stop her, "Please don’t! It’s just a leg fracture, it’s not like I’m paralyzed, I’m not that delicate."
Zhang Xin glared at him, her eyes beca increasingly red, "You’re not delicate? To , you’re the most delicate!"
Qu Chaozong let out an exaggerated exclamation and laughed, "What are you doing? Insisting on making blush before you’re satisfied? Say these things to when no one is around; I’m shy."
Zhang Xin burst out laughing, "You’re so annoying!"
Qu Chaozong gently reassured, "I’m really fine, when you talk to Grandpa later, don’t let him worry. In a few days, when I’m better, I’ll go see him."
Zhang Xin nodded, "I know what to do, don’t worry."
Shi Yang was concerned about picking up Mrs. Qu, so he told Zhang Xin, "You stay here and look after Chaozi, I’ll go get Auntie."
When Shi Yang took action, Qu Chaozong was more than relieved, not even a word of reminder.
Once Shi Yang left the ward, he hadn’t gone far before Zhang Xin chased after him.
Zhang Xin said, "Shi Yang, I have sothing to ask you."
The two moved aside to a place without people, Zhang Xin looked at Shi Yang, "Tell the truth, how did Chaozi really injure his leg?"
Zhang Xin didn’t believe that Qu Chaozong just fell and fractured his leg for no reason; and she knew Qu Chaozong very well, his reaction earlier clearly showed he was feeling guilty.
Shi Yang tried to cover up, "When I received the call, Chaozi had already been admitted to the hospital, I . . . ."
Zhang Xin interrupted him firmly, "Chaozi wouldn’t hide anything from you, you definitely know."
Shi Yang was silent for a mont before he spoke, "Since Chaozi doesn’t want to tell you, he must have his reasons. . . ."
Zhang Xin, who’s not originally unwise, imdiately caught on upon hearing Shi Yang’s words.
If it really was an accident, Qu Chaozong wouldn’t need to hide it from her. Qu Chaozong had spent almost every day with her for the past few months and hadn’t interacted with outsiders. If there’s been any conflict, it would only be with his ex, Peng Rui’s ex-husband.
Yesterday, when Qu Chaozong intervened, Peng Rui’s ex-husband was shouting about revenge, and today Qu Chaozong got into trouble.
In a swift flash, as Zhang Xin figured things out in her mind, she didn’t show it.
The reason Qu Chaozong didn’t want to tell her was because the person who hurt him was Peng Rui’s ex-husband; he was afraid she’d get jealous and spark unnecessary misunderstandings.
Sotis, Zhang Xin is more sensible than the average person and better understands certain n’s minds.
After bidding farewell to Shi Yang, Zhang Xin turned back to the ward, her face darkened, one part was due to the distress over Qu Chaozong’s condition, another part, no matter how magnanimous she pretended to be, her feelings were unsettled.
While she knew Qu Chaozong was helping Peng Rui purely out of kindness, understanding and coming to terms with it were one thing, but whether she could hold back was another.
Throughout her life, aside from her grandfather, she hadn’t endured much from anyone, all her worry transforming into anger.
There’s no way she could bring herself to punish Qu Chaozong, but if this anger isn’t vented, she’ll explode sooner or later.
As Zhang Xin walked towards the ward at that mont, she made up her mind to thoroughly discipline that audacious Peng Rui’s ex-husband, the man dared to touch her man, he’s outright tired of living.
Shi Yang drove and brought Mrs. Qu over; the mont Mrs. Qu saw Qu Chaozong in that condition, tears imdiately started streaming, heartache unbearable.
Zhang Xin showed her understanding and hugged Mrs. Qu’s arm, helping to wipe away her tears with a tissue, "Auntie, don’t be sad, otherwise Chaozi would feel bad seeing it. I asked the doctor—Chaozi’s left leg is fractured, although not seriously, we still need to take it seriously. Later, I’ll drive and accompany you ho, Auntie, you teach how to make soup, I want to give Chaozi so nourishnt."
Mrs. Qu’s attention was imdiately diverted from Qu Chaozong’s injured leg to the great task of soup-making.
Qu Chaozong secretly breathed a sigh of relief, mouthing praise to Zhang Xin, "Wife, you’re amazing!"
Zhang Xin glanced at Qu Chaozong and proudly threw him a look, "Where else can you find a wife as beautiful and smart as ? You should burn incense for good luck!"
The lovebirds exchanged flirtatious glances, their affection sweetened, and Mrs. Qu saw this and felt happy too. After staying in the hospital for a while, she took Zhang Xin back ho to make soup.
