Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Ruthless Punishnt_1
Ye You answered, "The female ghost, perceived as so sort of seductive fox spirit, was sentenced to five hundred years of tornt in Ice Hell. She was allowed to reincarnate, but her fate was to never grow up."
Qin Sisi exclaid, "Never grow up? Why is that?"
Ye You, pausing briefly, said sombrely, "Perhaps, it’s because she once made a mage fall in love with her."
"How is that fair!" Qin Sisi could not help feeling indignant. She had seen her fair share of unfairness in the human world, but it seed that the world of ghosts was no different.
Ye You looked up at the boundless night sky and continued, "Yet, fate has its own plans. The female ghost happened to et the mage again, who had now been reincarnated as a beast, in her first reincarnation."
Da Hua shuddered. He raised his head and intently gazed at Ye You, as if seeking answers within his eyes.
A thought flashed across Qin Sisi’s mind. She stared at Ye You in disbelief, then at Da Hua, hesitatingly asked, "The mage you’re talking about... could it possibly be..."
"It is Da Hua," Ye You confird with a humdrum tone, validating Qin Sisi’s suspicion. She stared at Da Hua, disbelief etched across her face, but she had no choice but to accept the truth.
Da Hua froze, his plump body huddling on the ground, burying his head between his paws, hiding his eyes.
Stunned, Qin Sisi murmured, "So, was the female ghost... Xiao Dan?"
"Yes," Ye You replied lightly.
The forbidden love between a man and a ghost from five hundred years ago, a transgression against the divine laws, had led to cruel punishnt for both. Ti flowed, life had its ends, but mortal affection did not. After countless turns of fate, they t once again; yet, it was still a tragedy in the end.
Qin Sisi looked at Da Hua with a mix of emotions and said, "No wonder he claid that he wasn’t an ordinary cat. Such a legendary past and such a tragic life..."
Ye You glanced at Qin Sisi, correcting her assumptions with a serious tone, "He didn’t know about his past. Probably because he was a mage, his Divine Sense retained so mories, all of which were kept hidden in a corner of his brain with no access even to himself."
Qin Sisi looked at Ye You with a sudden realization, "But you can access it, right? Because you know magic."
"Yes," Ye You admitted with a nonchalant smile, acknowledging his abilities.
Qin Sisi asked, "What about his soul power?"
Ye You answered, "It’s as strong as any human."
That ans it can be used.
Qin Sisi showed a hint of excitent. With this, they might be able to secure two soul powers at the sa ti.
After so ti, Da Hua slowly raised his head. His brown eyes welling up with tears, he rasped, "I am willing to give you my soul power, so long as you allow
to stay with Xiao Dan."
Ye You remained silent, not uttering a word for a long ti.
Qin Sisi couldn’t understand what Da Hua was saying. But she could guess from his deanor that he was asking for Ye You’s help.
Ye You nodded but remained silent.
Seeing Ye You’s silence, Qin Sisi asked tentatively, "Is it difficult?"
"It’s a bit tricky," Ye You admitted after so thought.
Qin Sisi fell silent. If even Ye You found it difficult, she was at a complete loss for what to do.
After a long while, Ye You turned to Da Hua and said, "After offering your soul power, it will take a hundred years for your soul to recover. By then, I will figure out a way to change Xiao Dan’s fate. However, your situation is more complicated. As a creature under the path of beast reincarnation, you have to go through countless reincarnations. You won’t be able to be with Xiao Dan permanently, until your punishnt is over."
Da Hua stared back at Ye You, "I’ve waited for five hundred years already, what’s another hundred or so more years? Although, are you sure you’ll still be alive after a hundred years?"
"I am sure," said Ye You, in a solemn voice.
"What makes you think I’ll believe you?" Da Hua challenged.
With a wave of his claw, a dazzling array of stars manifested into a vivid image: A young mage in a white Taoist robe, carefree with his locks cascading down around him, was amidst dried firewood. As the people around him torched the firewood, the fire rose higher, rapidly engulfing the mage in its flas. At the edge of the image, a semi-transparent woman in a red dress was trapped within a huge crystal bowl, struggling desperately against it. Her tears fell like rain.
Xiao Dan didn’t fully understand their conversation nor did she comprehend the aning of the image. However, Da Hua, red-eyed with his body trembling, understood it all and sees himself being engulfted in fire. He saw the anguish of the woman in red, bellowing a sorrowful ow.
Qin Sisi couldn’t help but flinch. Several resting birds were startled, flying towards the distant night sky.
Ye You withdrew the image as quickly as he had conjured it, leaving only the lonely silence of the night around them.
"You have no other choice but to trust ," said Ye You, his voice slightly pompous.
The tornting mories of the past landed like piercing blows to Da Hua. He gritted his teeth and said, "Alright, I trust you. But I have another condition."
"Speak," Ye You responded coldly.
Da Hua had a gleam of hatred in his eyes, "I want to avenge Xiao Dan. You have to help ."
"Okay," Ye You responded imdiately.
It was close to dawn when they finished their discussion. Ye You stored Xiao Dan temporarily in his Portable Space, while Qin Sisi left the district with Ye You and Da Hua on foot. After catching a cab, they returned to their place.
Along the way, Ye You explained Da Hua’s wishes to Qin Sisi. Understanding that Da Hua wanted to avenge Xiao Dan, she whole-heartedly agreed.
Exhausted after the whole night’s ordeal, Qin Sisi crashed on the sofa as soon as she got ho. Da Hua, seemingly just as tired, lay limply on the floor.
However, Ye You was surprisingly awake, and wide-eyed. Jumping atop the table, he spread out a few sheets of paper, and a faint purple light seeped from the depths of his eyes, falling onto the clean white paper beneath.
Her curiosity piqued, Qin Sisi managed to muster the energy to get up. Trying to catch a glimpse of his mysticalities, she gasped in surprise.
What lay on the paper were the portrait of a man and the drawing of a van, its number plate clearly vivid.
Amazed, Qin Sisi exclaid, "Oh my God! How did you do that?"
Ye You calmly remarked, "I delved into the missing part of Xiao Dan’s mory. I have his face and the details of his vehicle ingrained in my mind; the drawings are based on those mories."
