Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Waiting for the Qing Dynasty Bride_1

Her delicate form, standing tall and slim, indeed gave off the aura of a young maiden in her pri.

Qin Sisi was quite taken aback. She had imagined the ghost in every possible shape and form, male or female, old or young, tall or short, fat or thin, but she did not expect the ghost to be a delicate, red-dressed beauty.

The woman wore a bright scarlet dress that was brilliant and eye-catching. The fabric was glossy as new, and the handmade buttons on the right side of the top exuded a sense of ancient elegance. Her flowing long skirt dropped to her ankles, revealing dainty, exquisite embroidered shoes, while complex patterns were embroidered with various colored silk threads on the cuffs and the edge of the skirt. On her head, she wore a phoenix crown adorned with gems, and a beaded curtain with twelve tassels was suspended from the crown, hiding her beautiful face.

Did the costu make her look like... a bride?

Yes, exactly like a bride.

The red wedding dress, the phoenix crown, and the curtain with twelve tassels, all were traditional attire for an ancient bride.

But how could a joyful bride beco a lonely, sun-deprived ghost? Could sothing unexpected have happened on her wedding day?

With her heart filled with doubts, Qin Sisi quietly watched the red-dressed bride, waiting for her to regain her senses and unravel this mystery.

The bride in red finally slowly opened her eyes, looked around bewildered, then moved the beaded curtain to both sides, revealing a face with delicate makeup. With willow-leaf eyebrows, almond-shaped eyes, skin white as snow, and cherry lips, she was indeed a beauty of incomparable charm.

The red-dressed bride blinked, and when she saw Qin Sisi not far away, her face expressed even more anxious confusion. She asked in a soft, delicate voice, "Who are you? Where am I?"

Even though Ye You had said that this ghost bore no grudges, Qin Sisi held the Divine Dog’s Fury in her hands just in case. However, seeing how the woman before her looked cautious and harmless, Qin Sisi realized that she had overthought.

Seeing the red-dressed bride looking at herself with her watery eyes, Qin Sisi quickly answered in a gentle tone, "My na is Qin Sisi, and this is my ho."

The red-dressed bride nodded politely, "Ms. Qin." Next, she asked curiously, "May I know how I ended up at your place? I’m sure I was at ho."

Qin Sisi did not know how to answer this question. She glanced at Ye You, and seeing him appearing nonplussed, she decided to tell the truth, "He brought you here.".

Qin Sisi pointed in the direction Ye You was, successfully diverting the attention of the red-dressed bride.

The red-dressed bride looked at Ye You and suddenly her face changed, exclaiming, "Yes, it was him, I was waiting for soone at the entrance of my house, then this cat rushed towards . It radiated a purple light, and then, I lost all consciousness."

Ye You was unconcerned with the bride’s emotions. Instead, he urged Qin Sisi to quickly ask so worthwhile questions.

Qin Sisi gleaned so information from what the ghost had said earlier and questioned, "You said you were waiting for soone at your house?"

The red-dressed bride nodded her head, her cheeks flushing shyly as she said softly, "I was waiting for my wedding sedan; Brother Heng was supposed to co to marry ." Going on, she asked Qin Sisi, "Ms. Qin, could you send

back?"

She was waiting for her wedding sedan? It seed that sothing had in fact gone wrong on her wedding day.

Seeing that the red-dressed bride was sowhat simple-minded, Qin Sisi decided to go along with her, asking, "Sure, could you tell

your na?"

The red-dressed bride replied in a gentle voice, "My na is Xiu Ai."

"Xiu Ai, that’s a beautiful na." After giving her a small smile, Qin Sisi asked her again, "Can you tell

what year you were born in?"

Xiu Ai delicately replied, "I was born on November 11th in the seventh year of Guangxu."

Qin Sisi quickly looked it up on her phone. The seventh year of Guangxu was the year 1881. She then turned to Ye You and said, "She was born on November 11, 1881."

Ye You responded indifferently, "A single digit is too many, prevents pairing, destined for loneliness."

A sense of pity flashed in Qin Sisi’s eyes. Turning to Xiu Ai, she asked, "Xiu Ai, do you know what the current year is?"

With her cheeks blushing, Xiu Ai replied in a voice as lodious as a bird’s song, "It is September 23rd in the 24th year of Guangxu, the day of my wedding with Brother Heng."

Qin Sisi shook her head solemnly and said, "Xiu Ai, it is now the year 2017, more than a hundred years have passed since the 24th year of Guangxu."

Xiu Ai’s face turned ashen. She exclaid in a high pitch, "Impossible! I’ve only been waiting for a little while at my house’s entrance. Brother Heng promised to co to wed . He will definitely co! He should be here soon."

Qin Sisi felt a heavy sigh in her heart and glanced helplessly at Ye You. It’s the hardest to awaken soone who’s pretending to sleep. Xiu Ai, lost in her deep-rooted yearning and wait for the past hundred or so years, was unwilling to wake up.

Ye You pondered for a mont, then lifted his gaze to the electric bulb hanging overhead, its light casting bright shafts all around.

Qin Sisi caught his drift. She crossed her fingers to cast a little shadow beneath the lamp, then asked Xiu Ai, "Xiu Ai, what does the shadow of my hand look like?" As she spoke, her fingers flexed gently.

Baffled, Xiu Ai bent her head to look, contemplated for a mont, then said, "It looks like a small bird."

Qin Sisi smiled, "Do you know how to play this?"

As Qin Sisi had expected, the seventeen-year-old’s curiosity was piqued. Xiu Ai actually stretched out her hands, copying Qin Sisi’s gesture. But when she bent down to look at her shadow, she instantly froze, becoming deathly pale.

Realizing that her mission was accomplished, Qin Sisi lowered her hands and said in a grave voice, "Xiu Ai, you see now? You don’t have a shadow. You’re not a person at all. You’ve been dead for more than a hundred years. What you are now is just a ghost."

Xiu Ai convulsed, her voice trembling, "How could this...How could this happen?"

Qin Sisi continued to hamr the point, "Xiu Ai, wake up. You’ve been lying to yourself for over a hundred years. It’s ti to wake up. The person you’ve been waiting for...he won’t co again."

Xiu Ai turned even paler. Shaking her head in desperation, she stumbled back and grabbed onto the table, gasping for breath.

The beautiful dream she had been weaving for over a hundred years had been abruptly shattered. Ignored mories ca flooding back, and the imnse pain that she had been suppressing descended upon her like a huge storm. Xiu Ai closed her eyes in agony.

Qin Sisi couldn’t bear to say more. She just watched the lovesick woman silently, waiting for her to truly awaken.

After what seed like an eternity, Xiu Ai slowly opened her eyes again. This ti, her expression was not one of bewildernt or modesty. It was steeped in profound sorrow.
