Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Not One Less_1
Upon seeing Wu Cheng co in, carrying the box with the blue and white porcelain, Boss Zheng had instantly understood everything. Yet, he maintained his composure, neither revealing any change in his deanour nor evincing any anxiety. As detachedly enthusiastic as ever, he welcod Wu Cheng, arranging a seat for him.
Despite Boss Zheng’s warm welco, Wu Cheng knew he couldn’t stay long and was too embarrassed to linger on. He handed the box back to Boss Zheng, stuttering, "Boss Zheng, this item.... I need to return it to you."
Feigning confusion, Boss Zheng glanced at the box then at Wu Cheng, asking with bafflent, "What do you an by this, Boss Wu?"
From "Xiao Wu" to "Wu Cheng" and then "Boss Wu," Wu Cheng knew that the once decent relationship could no longer be restored.
Sighing with resignation, Wu Cheng summoned the bravery to say, "I lost my judgent. Once sold, it’s sold. How can I go back on my word? Please forgive , Boss Zheng. I should leave now."
Before Boss Zheng could say anything, Wu Cheng had already turned around and scurried out of Ju Ya Zhai’s main entrance in a fluster.
The crowd watching the scene had a mix of significant and amused looks in their eyes. As Wu Cheng had personally returned the blue and white porcelain, this matter could now be conclusively settled. Boss Zheng’s and Ju Ya Zhai’s reputation would not suffer any further damage. On the contrary, Wu Cheng’s path in this line of business would likely beco tougher.
After returning the blue and white porcelain, although heartbroken, Wu Cheng heaved a huge sigh of relief, silently praying that the black tiger would never appear again.
As he wished, the black tiger didn’t appear once he had closed his eyes that night.
Wu Cheng sighed long and hard, thinking to himself that the ordeal was finally over. Although he had lost a significant amount of money, his wife was right when she said that lost money could be earned back.
Wu Cheng closed his eyes, indulging in the peaceful tranquility of the darkness, and swiftly drifted off to sleep.
However, his wish for a sound sleep was not fulfilled. Around midnight, Wu Cheng’s mobile phone rang urgently.
Wu Cheng answered the call impatiently to learn from a friend that the bald man had been in a car accident and urged him to hurry to the hospital. Other friends with close relations would be rushing over too.
The bald man was, of course, the man who had caused trouble with him at Ju Ya Zhai.
Wu Cheng’s heart dropped. He hastily got out of bed and dressed, explained the situation briefly to his wife, and hurried out the door, headed for the hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, a few other friends had already gathered there. The bald man was being treated in the ergency room as his wife sat on a bench, weeping quietly.
Wu Cheng promptly inquired about the situation. One friend who had arrived earlier comnted, "It’s strange. Although the bald man had just left a restaurant, he hadn’t drunk any alcohol. He’s good at driving too. It’s just baffling how he crashed his car into an electric pole."
The group was abuzz, all finding the incident suspicious, filled with worry and confusion.
Not long after, the doctor ca out and inford them that although the bald man was not in any imdiate danger, he did have a mild concussion and needed to stay in the hospital for a while for treatnt.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, thanked the doctor, and offered a few words of comfort to the weeping wife of the bald man.
A few people went to see the bald man who was still unconscious. His wife was by his side, and his parents were on their way to the hospital; there was no need for the entire group to wait around.
As daybreak approached, the friends proposed grabbing so breakfast together before heading off to their respective tasks. They planned on visiting the bald man the next day.
It was early in the day, so they found a small restaurant near the hospital and ordered a common breakfast.
During breakfast, soone tentatively asked Wu Cheng about the blue and white porcelain incident. Wu Cheng hemd and hawed for a while before reluctantly admitting that he had returned the porcelain.
They all exchanged glances, plotting their next moves. No one was quite willing to accept the outco, and they asked Wu Cheng for reasons relentlessly.
Wu Cheng didn’t dare reveal too much – only that he’d kept the blue and white porcelain with him for security reasons. He had been suffering from insomnia for the past few days out of fear that the porcelain may have so issues so decided to simply return it.
One particularly straightforward friend asked, "Didn’t you get fifty thousand dollars too?"
The implied aning was clear – Wu Cheng still had money even after losing the porcelain. They had risked helping Wu Cheng create a ruckus, and now, with their friend in a hospital bed, Wu Cheng should pull his own weight too.
Normally, Wu Cheng would have picked up on his friend’s intention. But he had been tornted by the black tiger in his dream for the past few days, leaving him utterly exhausted and ntally disoriented. He didn’t catch his friend’s drift and simply nodded absentmindedly.
After finishing breakfast, Wu Cheng, with his head in a whirl, forgot to proactively offer to pay the bill.
To the rest, it just seed as though he was becoming increasingly unreliable.
Another friend picked up the bill, and after bidding each other farewell outside the small restaurant, they went their separate ways.
Wu Cheng went directly to his antique shop in the antique market. His mood was gloomy, and business was sparse.
He couldn’t help but ponder whether or not he should return Qin Sisi’s money. But ultimately, his greed took over. He’d already suffered a significant financial loss due to the return of the blue and white porcelain. Sending this fifty thousand back would be simply too painful.
In the end, Wu Cheng decided to hold onto the money to see whether any other strange incidents would occur.
Subsequently, a series of accidents started happening to the few friends who had accompanied him to Ju Ya Zhai to demand the porcelain following the bald man’s car crash.
One tripped while going down the stairs and broke his coccyx; another was leisurely horse riding in the countryside and fell off the horse, breaking his arm; another tripped on a road curb, falling to the ground and breaking his leg due to hitting his shin against a stone; another was playing on the parallel bars in the park in the evening, fell, and broke a few ribs.
At this point, all who had accompanied Wu Cheng to Ju Ya Zhai had gotten injured. Although none of the injuries were severe, the discomfort was unbearable.
The group started a chat group using a social dia app and collectively determined that all these misfortunes were due to the peculiar blue and white porcelain Wu Cheng had acquired.
Wu Cheng was the pri culprit. Once he returned the blue and white porcelain, nothing happened to him except for experiencing a few days of insomnia. Moreover, he got to pocket fifty thousand dollars.
On the other hand, they didn’t get any benefits. They rely helped him out of the goodness of their hearts, only for misfortune to befall them.
After discussing, they started taking turns to call Wu Cheng, demanding an equal split of the fifty thousand dollars. Having just lost the blue and white porcelain, Wu Cheng naturally refused.
Therefore, they transitioned from reasoned argunts to furious insults. The bond of friendship they had once shared vanished instantly.
Wu Cheng, unable to bear the constant harassnt, was in agony.
