Chapter 1090: Chapter 1090: Long-Standing Rumors

Qin Sisi brought Yu Miao to the place where they had just fought with the man in black. It was late at night, silent and still. The scene hadn’t been disturbed, and the man in black’s body, hacked into several pieces, lay ssily scattered across the sand.

Yu Miao stepped forward, stripped off the clothing from the corpse, carefully examined it, and his expression grew increasingly grim. He spoke to Qin Sisi in a heavy and urgent tone: "This man is from the Chief Mansion. We absolutely cannot let them know his death is connected to us. Otherwise, not only you, but the entire caravan will face disaster."

Qin Sisi saw a hint of fear in Yu Miao’s expression. She paused to think briefly and asked, "Then, Captain Yu, what do you think we should do?"

Though there was no one else around, Yu Miao still lowered his voice and said through gritted teeth, "Destroy the corpse, leave no evidence of death."

"Simple." Qin Sisi raised an eyebrow and responded. She lifted her palm, sending golden Fire Attribute Magic into the man in black’s body. In no ti, the corpse was reduced to a small pile of ashes by the Sun’s True Fire. As the night wind blew, the ashes disappeared without a trace.

Yu Miao let out a long sigh of relief.

Qin Sisi watched the ashes scatter in the wind, then looked at Yu Miao and said, "You seem quite afraid."

Yu Miao sighed and replied, "The entire Midair City is under the Changkong family’s rule. To offend the Chief Mansion—how could anyone possibly live a good life afterward?"

Qin Sisi pondered for a mont and asked, "When you say the Chief Mansion, are you referring to the Changkong family’s clan leader?"

Yu Miao nodded and replied, "Yes, i Ji of the Changkong family, the ruler of Midair City. This person..."

Yu Miao paused, let out a long sigh, and ultimately chose not to finish his sentence.

Qin Sisi felt puzzled and thought the matter over carefully. She then asked with confusion, "Why would soone from the Chief Mansion go to such lengths to abduct a young girl in the middle of the night?"

Yu Miao’s expression grew conflicted, and he hesitated in his response.

Qin Sisi said solemnly, "Captain Yu, my life was saved by all of you. I would never betray the caravan. If this matter is sensitive to discuss, I promise to keep it confidential. Please, enlighten ."

Yu Miao remained silent for a while before finally speaking: "Actually, the disappearance of girls has been happening for over ten years now. It’s not confined to one location—it occurs in every town and village of Midair City. The guards stationed across the region by the Changkong family have conducted investigations, but they all end inconclusively."

"Is that possible? Have there been no valuable clues whatsoever?" Qin Sisi’s expression grew heavy as well. She had thought this was an isolated incident but was now realizing it had beco a common occurrence in Midair City.

Yu Miao sighed once again and continued, "My caravan is affiliated with Haixin Comrce Association. Once, a major client’s daughter went missing. He offered a large sum of Spirit Stones to request Haixin Comrce Association investigate. Although this isn’t within their business scope, Haixin Comrce Association has branches throughout the Demon Sacred Realm and possesses well-connected intelligence networks. For the sake of their longstanding relationship and the Spirit Stones, the association began an investigation. But the result..."

"What was the result?" Qin Sisi asked urgently. She was eager to know what had happened to those abducted girls, hoping they hadn’t faced tragic fates.

Yu Miao’s voice lowered: "The result was that we discovered this matter might be connected to the Chief Mansion."

Qin Sisi’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Yu Miao. Wasn’t the Changkong family supposed to be the rulers and guardians of Midair City? How could they abduct so many innocent girls within their own territory?

Yu Miao said helplessly, "At this point, it’s beyond what Haixin Comrce Association can handle. The association could only return the Spirit Stones and inform the client that no leads were found."

Even the wealthiest and most powerful comrce association in the Demon Sacred Realm couldn’t compete with those in power.

Qin Sisi could tell Yu Miao wasn’t lying—nor did he have any reason to lie. Still, why would the Changkong family abduct those girls?

Qin Sisi posed this question to Yu Miao, who hesitated before replying: "No one knows the exact reason. However, as more and more people went missing, a rumor began to circulate among the public—that i Ji’s son is lustful and sends people to abduct girls, forcing them to serve him in his chambers. Afterward, he discards them off Soul-breaking Cliff to feed the Blood Eagles."

Qin Sisi froze montarily, her mind reeling with a sudden "boom." Her voice trembled as she urgently asked, "i Ji’s son—is it Jiu Ge?"

Yu Miao nodded: "Indeed, i Ji has only one son."

Qin Sisi staggered backward, her expression changed drastically. mories of her brief encounters with Jiu Ge flooded her mind. She knew him to be playful, carefree, and unbridled. But how could he be so cruel? It was utterly inhumane.

Qin Sisi bit her lip firmly, but her heart wavered. No, Yu Miao ntioned it was just a rumor—a rumor isn’t necessarily credible.

"Captain Yu, why would such a rumor erge? Has anyone seen it happen with their own eyes?" Qin Sisi cautiously continued to question Yu Miao.

Yu Miao shook his head and replied: "No, not directly. However, it is well-known that Young Master Jiu Ge has a fondness for indulging in pleasure, visiting brothels nightly, which is certainly true. And as for the Blood Eagles beneath Soul-breaking Cliff being fed with human flesh, that’s also a fact. Combining these two things, the rumors started to spread gradually."

Qin Sisi was almost convinced but still desperately unwilling to believe it—unwilling to accept that the red-clad man who had once saved her life could be such a brutal and bloody individual.

Yu Miao paused then added, "Actually, there’s another inconsistency in the rumor. People later discovered that the missing individuals weren’t limited to girls; quite a few young n have vanished as well. This makes it harder to explain, unless..."

Qin Sisi blinked, noticing Yu Miao’s faintly awkward deanor. She understood a bit of what Yu Miao was implying and chuckled bitterly. "Captain Yu, your imagination is a bit too vivid."

Yu Miao also chuckled bitterly and said, "It’s not my imagination. The wisdom of the masses is boundless."

But even though nurous versions of the rumors had spread throughout the public, each accusing the Changkong family of corruption and immorality, no one dared to actually investigate or challenge them.

i Ji was depraved and ruthless. Faced with her tyranny, no one dared to utter even a single word of defiance in her presence.

Those who were wealthy or held official positions wouldn’t risk taking action; how could ordinary civilians dare confront the Changkong family?

"I must uncover the truth behind this matter."

Qin Sisi gritted her teeth, gazing up at the vast night sky, and silently vowed to herself.

For Ye You, for Jiu Ge, for those innocent young girls.

Though she wasn’t yet a top-tier warrior, she was no longer a helpless, easily bullied weakling. It was ti for her to emulate Ah Xia’s selflessness and compassion for the world.
