Zhang Lingying detected the patronizing tone in his words, as if he were dealing with a child, and her brows knitted in displeasure, "I’m an adult, I don’t need you to serve food. Are you looking down on ?"
She reached for the chopsticks and, almost spitefully, began placing several pieces of at into Leng Jian’s bowl.
Just then, the waiter ca over to refill their glasses and, upon seeing the scene, couldn’t help but laugh, "You two seem to get along really well. Have you been together for a long ti?"
Zhang Lingying: "..."
Leng Jian: "..."
"No, we’re not a couple..." Zhang Lingying snapped back to reality, instinctively trying to explain. She stopped halfway through, as if recalling sothing, and imdiately turned to the waiter, "Bring a bottle of red wine, right now!"
By the ti Leng Jian realized what was happening, the waiter had already brought over several bottles for Zhang Lingying to choose from.
Before Leng Jian could protest, she quickly picked one and had the waiter open it promptly.
"I’ll just have one glass, and the rest is all yours, that should be fine, right?" Zhang Lingying spoke up before Leng Jian, taking the initiative.
She was of age now, after all, and having one glass of red wine really wasn’t a big deal.
As long as she didn’t get drunk.
Seeing that she really seed eager to drink, Leng Jian eventually let her be.
The waiter swiftly brought over the red wine and poured them two glasses.
Both seed to have forgotten the awkwardness of being mistaken for a couple by the waiter as Zhang Lingying eagerly raised her glass, "Cheers, this is to celebrate our friendship... Eh, are we friends now?"
Upon hearing this, Leng Jian was taken aback.
In his mind, apart from Ji Weitian, he had no other friends.
He seed unpretentious and had interacted with many people, but very few had actually made it into his heart to be called friends.
Zhang Lingying was the rare individual who, upon their first eting, declared her intention to befriend him.
Sotis her straightforwardness was so jarring it left people out of sorts.
When he ca to his senses, he found her candor refreshing, and it made him want to indulge her...
Leng Jian picked up his glass and lightly clinked it against hers with a subdued, "Mhm."
Just one simple word, then he downed the wine in his glass in one gulp, raising his eyes to look at Zhang Lingying sitting across from him.
Zhang Lingying paused for a second to make sure she hadn’t misheard, then smiled in delight, her eyes crinkling, "Then here’s to friendship!"
After saying that, she too downed her glass in one go.
Leng Jian wanted to remind her to slow down, but didn’t get the chance.
This young lady... where had she learned this worldly air? Her spirit was comndable, truly a woman who needs not concede to n.
"Don’t just focus on drinking, eat so more," Leng Jian said as he placed more food into her bowl, reminding her to eat.
While stuffing the food he had served her into her mouth, Zhang Lingying grumbled, "You’re so young, you don’t look much older than . How co you’re acting like my dad, always worrying I’m not eating enough and not growing up? Do I look malnourished to you?"
Leng Jian’s gaze swept over her, then quickly realized what he was looking at and his ears reddened slightly.
He coughed twice to cover the embarrassnt and poured himself another glass of wine.
As he looked up, he saw that Zhang Lingying had already finished the food in her bowl and was now gazing intently at him... or rather, at the wine in his hand.
She timidly stuck out a finger and, with a look of yearning on her face, licked her lips, "Friend, can I have another glass?"
