"Bang—"
Ji Weitian had just taken the rice out of the lunchbox when it dropped onto the small dining table.
She was shocked as she looked at Qin Nanyu, her eyes instantly filled with panic.
Her hand involuntarily clenched into a fist, uncertain whether Qin Nanyu had discovered anything.
The next mont, Qin Nanyu suddenly grabbed her hand, forcing her to relax it, "Did you burn yourself? Are you okay?"
"..." Ji Weitian wanted to say she was fine, but her throat felt tight, and she was too nervous to speak.
She stared directly at the man in front of her, who seed to be speaking with profound implications, yet acted as if nothing had happened. She couldn’t fathom what his words just now truly ant.
"Ji Weitian?"
Qin Nanyu couldn’t wait for her response, thinking her hand must be in pain, and turned to call for dical staff.
Coming back to her senses belatedly, Ji Weitian hastily grabbed him.
"I’m fine, it’s just that your rice spilled."
Ji Weitian made a face at the half-bowl of rice spilled because of her.
The lunchbox she brought wasn’t large, enough for a normal adult al portion. Now that half the rice had spilled, it ant Qin Nanyu might not have enough to eat.
"You wait here, I’ll go back and get you another helping," Ji Weitian’s mind was blank, her heart in turmoil. Instinctively, she wanted to pack up and leave the hospital imdiately to avoid unintentionally confessing anything in front of Qin Nanyu.
Qin Nanyu held onto her hand, not letting her go.
"I’m not hungry, this is enough."
"The butler didn’t prepare a fruit plate. You’re sick, you should eat more vitamins. I’ll go down and buy so fruit for you," Ji Weitian tried to pull her hand from his. Qin Nanyu, however, tightened his grip and refused to let go.
He sensed sothing was off, his brows lifting slightly, "What’s wrong with you? Why are you suddenly dodging ?"
"I’m not!" Ji Weitian denied it without thinking, her voice unintentionally rising.
The sentence sounded like a desperate struggle.
As she regained her composure, she also realized that her reaction was overly excited.
Before she could say anything to correct herself, Qin Nanyu had already narrowed his eyes slightly, reconsidering what he had just said.
What had he said to make Ji Weitian act so out of character?
It seed to start with having a paternity test done with Yaoyao...
Seeing that he had suddenly gone quiet, Ji Weitian largely guessed that her reaction had aroused his suspicion.
She pursed her lips and took the initiative to speak.
"Right, what were you telling just now?"
"..." Qin Nanyu’s dark eyes lifted slightly, eting her gaze.
Ji Weitian tried to appear calm, bravely enduring her guilt, not avoiding his eyes, and asked assertively.
"Why on earth would you suddenly want to have a paternity test with my daughter?"
Her natural tone and the usual disdain in her voice dispelled Qin Nanyu’s suspicions, and instead, he beca self-conscious.
How could he explain out of the blue wanting to have a paternity test with soone else’s daughter?
Could he tell her that he wanted to be her daughter’s father, but had no way to go back in ti to take advantage of her, so he had to choose this self-deceptive way, getting a fake paternity test to console himself?
He was afraid Ji Weitian would call him a filthy rogue on the spot and give him a beating.
"My grandfather saw Yaoyao’s photos and videos, claid she looks exactly like I did when I was a child, and insisted that she might be my biological daughter lost to the outside world. He swore by his death that I should take Yaoyao for a DNA test."
