Chapter 81: Chapter 81 Confession

She swiftly turned around and then saw Gu Wei.

The lights in the room were on, and she could see the worry brimming in Gu Wei’s eyes.

“Why are you here?” Su ixi asked.

Wasn’t he guarding outside?

Gu Wei said, “I was worried about you, so I ca in.”

Su ixi’s face was still pale, and after such a scare just now, she felt an urge to throw herself into his arms.

...

But she resisted.

However, her resistance was futile, as Gu Wei’s large hand reached out and pulled her into his embrace.

Pressed against his chest, Su ixi’s fears slowly cald down.

If possible, she really wanted to stay close to him forever.

After leaning on him for a while, she wriggled out of his arms and sat in silence.

Gu Wei didn’t force her to stay close either, simply sitting in quiet vigil beside her.

Her room was very small, and with both of them sitting like that, the space seed even more cramped.

After a while, she spoke up, “Why don’t you go back? You’re a soldier, you can’t just abandon your post like this.”

Gu Wei said, “A soldier’s duty is to ensure the safety of the citizens, and besides, you’re my wife.”

“We’re already divorced,” Su ixi reminded him.

“Military marriages require approval, and the divorce application was stalled by my superior, not approved, so our marriage is still legally valid.”

Su ixi was shocked by his words, and then asked, “Why wouldn’t your superior approve it?”

“My superior thinks it’s not easy for to find a wife, so he didn’t approve it.”

Su ixi: “…”

She was so exasperated she almost found it funny: “With soone like you, worried about not finding a wife? If your brother just posts a matrimonial ad in Feng City, wouldn’t the girls lining up stretch all the way to France?”

Gu Wei looked intently at her, “But, finding soone who truly has feelings for isn’t easy.”

Su ixi imdiately turned her head away, “Who has feelings for you?”

After she asked that, she thought of the video she had recorded.

Sure enough, Gu Wei handed her phone to her, and then said, “I saw everything, so don’t deny it.”

“You… You snooped on my phone?” Su ixi’s face turned red, feeling completely embarrassed.

“I didn’t an to look.”

“If it wasn’t intentional, did the phone just play it and let you see?”

Seeing her spar with him, Gu Wei suddenly felt his mood lighten significantly; her coy deanor was extrely charming.

He bluntly admitted, “Then I confess, it was intentional.”

“You… You have the nerve to say that,” Su ixi laughed despite herself.

“But that’s not the point. The point is you admit you have feelings for ,” Gu Wei pressed on.

“I was just talking nonsense.” Su ixi deleted the video from her phone and then said, “See, it’s gone. Pretend you never saw that video.”

“But I made a backup.”

“You…”

She lay down in embarrassnt, then covered her head with the blanket.

Gu Wei couldn’t help but laugh.

He had always heard that won say one thing but an another, and now he realized it was true.

He didn’t attempt to lift her blanket, only waiting for her to co out on her own.

Underneath her was an electric heating blanket, and naturally, it was stuffy under the covers, so it wasn’t long before she threw off the blanket.

Seeing Gu Wei staring at her unmoving, another blush rose on her cheeks.

It must still be snowing outside, with the wind howling fiercely, yet inside the room, it was warm, just her and Gu Wei together.

In such an atmosphere, she should invite him to join her, then lie down in his arms, and the two of them could fall asleep together.

How sweet that would be.

While recording the video, thinking that she was about to die, so she spoke her heart to him, saying she would be braver in the next life. Now, though the danger was over, she was hesitating again.

It was Gu Wei who spoke first, “Ah Xi, you’ve always thought that the reason I married you was for a good night’s sleep. I admit that initially, that was indeed why I wanted to marry you, but that wasn’t the only reason. More importantly, it was because I like you.”

Upon hearing this, Su ixi’s heart started to pound.

But she always valued calm over impulse.

Clutching at the blanket, she suppressed the turmoil of her emotions and then said, “But liking soone isn’t enough; we need to be compatible. We’re from different worlds.”

“I’ve said it before,” Gu Wei said, “just give so ti, and I will persuade my mom. You see, both my grandpa and my brother approve of you; it’s just my mom who’s a little stubborn.”

“I…” Su ixi said, “I’ll think about it so more.”

In Gu Wei’s eyes, her agreeing to consider it was already a big step.

He hurriedly said, “Then you must think it over carefully.”

Su ixi nodded.

Seeing that he was just sitting there, she worried he might be cold and said, “Why don’t you… go back first?”

“Can you manage on your own?” Gu Wei asked.

“I can. The bad guy has been caught, right? There’s no danger now. I really want to get a good night’s sleep.”

“Alright.” Gu Wei didn’t dare to press her.

Her attitude was already less standoffish than before; he needed to be cautious not to irritate her.

Just as he was about to leave, Su ixi called out to him again.

“Gu Wei, how is your insomnia?”

“It’s the sa as always,” Gu Wei said. “But my brother’s company has developed so dication that helps with sleep. As long as it’s not used long-term, there are no side effects.”

“And if you’re around ?” Su ixi asked.

“It gets a lot better,” Gu Wei replied.

“Can it really be that miraculous?”

“Really,” he admitted.

Su ixi lifted the blanket, walked up to him, and hugged him.

“Gu Wei, go back and have a good sleep. Thank you for saving today.”

The purpose was just to help him sleep well, so she quickly let go.

But Gu Wei wasn’t happy about it, she was the one who initiated it.

He pulled her into his arms and leaned down to kiss her lips.

But she hissed in pain.

The slap from Ma Zi hadn’t just hurt her cheek, it also affected her lips and chin.

Gu Wei quickly released her.

“Do you need more dicine?” Gu Wei asked.

“I’ll apply it myself in a bit; you go ahead,” Su ixi shooed him away again.

Gu Wei left the yard, looking back three steps at a ti.

Su ixi returned to bed.

Because of Gu Wei, she didn’t feel as scared as before.

Gu Wei’s confession stirred her heart once again.

So, all that night, her mind was filled with thoughts of Gu Wei.

When Su ixi woke up, she realized it was already noon.

Dr. Ma knew what had happened to her the day before, so he specifically didn’t wake her up.

Seeing her co out, Dr. Ma asked if the injury on her face still hurt and told her to go back to rest if she felt uncomfortable.

Nurse Sarah also ca over with a look of concern.

Su ixi assured them she was really alright before they relaxed.

Dr. Ma then said, “Today, the Health Bureau called to say they’ve approved a new vehicle for our clinic. It’s strange because we couldn’t get it approved before but now they say it’s been granted. They also said that soone will drive it back for us once it’s licensed. Do you think the higher-ups found out about your incident yesterday?”

“Is that so?” Su ixi smiled.

She suspected Gu Wei had a hand in this. How he had managed it, she wasn’t sure, but her intuition told her so.

Dr. Ma continued, “When you go on dical visits in the future, you can’t go alone anymore. You need to contact either the military or the police station, and they will send soone with you.”

“What if it’s an ergency?” Su ixi asked.

“No matter what kind of case it is, you must leave a ssage. Safety is the most important thing,” Dr. Ma said.

Speaking of ergencies, there was one that very afternoon.

A pregnant woman, only six months along, had been forced by her family to have an abortion using those ancient local thods, and now she was bleeding severely.
