Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Ti to Have a Good Sleep

Su ixi: “…”

She hadn’t looked carefully before, but now that she took a closer look, she noticed the character “Wei” carved on the water bottle.

It really was his!

If he was pretending not to recognize her, why did he give her his water bottle?

Su ixi gripped the strap of the bottle tightly.

She decided not to return it for now.

...

So, she slung the water bottle over her shoulder and went to change the dressings for the tourists and taught them how to massage their own acupressure points.

Dr. Ma saw that things were mostly under control and rembered that the clinic couldn’t be left unattended, so he said to Su ixi, “I’ll head back first. You keep an eye on things here a little longer, then once you’re finished, find a phone and call . I’ll co to pick you up.”

Su ixi agreed, “Okay.”

She wasn’t worried about getting back because she knew the tourists were bound to return to town later. They had a vehicle, so she could simply hitch a ride with them.

Su ixi changed the dressing for another tourist, but as she stood up, she moved too quickly and felt dizzy. Her vision darkened as she nearly collapsed.

However, at that mont, a large hand steadied her with a firm grip.

She felt herself leaning against a broad and familiar chest.

Opening her eyes, she saw Gu Wei’s bright and spirited eyes.

Was there concern in his gaze?

It seed like there wasn’t.

He asked in a mild voice, “Are you okay?”

Su ixi felt neither okay nor not okay. The dizziness ca from being too tired from work, not sleeping or eating well, and low blood sugar, but she knew she’d be fine after resting for a bit.

The problem was she couldn’t stand up right now.

Just then, Xiao Ding ca over and saw Su ixi leaning into Gu Wei’s arms. He knew his boss wasn’t the type to get close to won; when so had thrown themselves at him in the past, they were all coldly rejected.

Worried Su ixi might be treated the sa, Xiao Ding quickly offered, “Boss, shall I help Dr. Xiao Su?”

Gu Wei gave him a look, “No need.”

Xiao Ding: “…”

Gu Wei himself supported her waist and helped her to a tent with a fire to rest.

Feeling sowhat better, Su ixi sat down and instinctively moved a bit away from him before politely saying, “Thank you.”

“You’re welco.”

Gu Wei’s gaze then fell on the water bottle she was carrying.

Su ixi pretended not to notice, thinking to herself, ‘I won’t offer it back. If you want it, you have to ask.’

Yet, Gu Wei remained silent.

He ordered Xiao Ding instead, “Get a bowl of brown sugar ginger tea for Dr. Su.”

Xiao Ding did as he was told.

But he was puzzled: Hadn’t he been ignoring everyone last night? Yet today, he was helping soone and even asking for ginger tea?

Could it be that the sight of her stirred sothing in him?

If that was the case, what about his wife back ho?

Oh, Boss, please don’t make a mistake.

Su ixi felt better after drinking the ginger tea.

Then Gu Wei instructed the driver Jiang Bin, “Jiang Bin, you take Dr. Su back first.”

But upon hearing Gu Wei’s order, one of the tourists complained, “If the doctor leaves, what about us? We can’t be without a doctor. What if sothing happens again later?”

Gu Wei was angered, “She is one of only two doctors in the town. If she gets into trouble because of looking after you, you wouldn’t be able to bear the responsibility. Knowing the dangers, you shouldn’t have gone up the mountain last night!”

When a soldier gets angry, it can be terrifying; even Su ixi was startled.

She had never seen Gu Wei this fierce.

Jiang Bin had already co running, but just as he reached Gu Wei, Gu Wei changed his mind, “Never mind, I’ll take her back myself. Give the jeep keys.”

Jiang Bin paused.

Then he handed over the keys without protest.

Gu Wei took the keys and said to Su ixi, “Get in the car.”

Su ixi thought: Why should I just follow because you say so?

However, when she looked around and saw everyone watching, she realized that not following would make Gu Wei lose face. It would also seem like they were a couple in the midst of a tiff.

So she hurriedly followed.

The inside of the jeep was warm. Su ixi sat in the passenger seat with the dical kit placed in front of her feet.

Gu Wei drove with focus, saying nothing.

Su ixi also remained silent.

After all, he was her ex-husband; what was there to talk about?

He was probably just fulfilling his soldier’s duty by bringing her back, and she genuinely felt unwell.

The mountains outside were as desolate as ever, covered with snow. Whenever she saw this sight, her heart would calm down, and she would crave a cigarette, a drink, or a scream.

For a mont, she forgot about Gu Wei beside her.

Until he asked her, “Are you acclimating well here?”

Su ixi paused, then replied, “It’s okay.”

Just physically exhausted.

“Haven’t eaten today?”

“No.”

She thought to herself, what does it matter to you whether I’ve eaten or not?

Gu Wei stopped the car in front of a small town diner and then asked, “Do you usually eat here?”

“Yeah.”

Although the clinic had kitchenware, cooking for one felt too cumberso. Not only did it take too much ti, but cleaning beef and mutton was not her forte – she couldn’t remove the gay sll and often found the at too tough to chew.

Gu Wei then said, “Well, get out and have so food.”

Su ixi took her dical kit and stepped out of the car, wondering if Gu Wei was going to join her for a al.

But as soon as she got off, the jeep started up again, and Gu Wei sped off.

Su ixi: “…”

She shouldn’t have been so presumptuous!

After Gu Wei got back to his unit, it wasn’t long before Xiao Ding and the others returned.

Xiao Ding went into the office to report to Gu Wei on how the tourists had been settled, saying they had been sent to the county town.

Gu Wei nodded, indicating he understood.

However, Xiao Ding didn’t leave right away but stood in front of Gu Wei’s desk.

Gu Wei looked up at him, “Anything else?”

“Boss, you… you took her back?” Xiao Ding asked.

“What else was I supposed to do? Leave her there?” Gu Wei replied, then added, “You seem to care a lot about her.”

Xiao Ding, a bit embarrassed, said, “Dr. Xiao Su is so beautiful, what man wouldn’t like her?”

Gu Wei’s expression suddenly darkened.

“You are not to like her!”

Xiao Ding jumped.

He was just making casual conversation, and besides, his liking wasn’t that kind of liking. Why such a strong reaction from the boss? Was he worried about them making a mistake?

Xiao Ding quickly said, “Yes, with our status, how could we be worthy of her? Boss, isn’t it ti for your dication?”

The insomnia dication.

When they were assigned to Wu Bian County, Old Zhang had specifically told Xiao Ding to remind Gu Wei to take his dication on ti.

The drug was a temporary developnt by the Gu Group, and though it couldn’t cure the problem, it could relieve symptoms of insomnia.

If it weren’t for Gu Wei’s condition and his divorce, he wouldn’t have volunteered for this assignnt.

Gu Wei shook his head, “I don’t need it today.”

“Why?”

“I’ll sleep well tonight. If that’s all, you can go now,” Gu Wei said.

He had made physical contact with Su ixi today, and, if nothing unexpected occurred, he would likely sleep well.
