Chapter 205: THE TALK WITH THE PRESIDENT
As Maddy stord into the room, her eyes filled with anger, fixed intently on Astrid.
"How dare you be so disrespectful to the President’s son?" she spat, ignoring Astrid’s greetings.
Astrid smiled serenely, her expression unruffled. "The last ti I checked, I was just making sothing clear," she replied, her voice calm and collected.
Maddy’s face twisted with rage. "You were rude, lady, Completely rude."
Astrid shrugged, her shoulders barely rising off the chair. "I will agree with whatever you say, Miss Simpsons."
Maddy’s eyes narrowed, her gaze piercing. "Why is your title still Mrs. Logan when you are already divorced from Julian?" she asked, again the question that had been bothering her since she heard her title was still Mrs.
Astrid’s expression remained serene, but a hint of annoyance crept into her voice. "That’s my family’s problem. I don’t wish to share that burden with you."
But Maddy insisted, her voice rising. "I want to know, Astrid. Tell ."
Astrid’s patience was wearing thin, but she kept her cool. "I’m not here to discuss my personal life with you, Maddy. If you want to know, ask Julian. He’s the one who can provide you with the answers you seek."
Maddy’s face reddened with anger, her eyes flashing with indignation.
"You know my na?" Astrid smirked, "Who wouldn’t?"
"How dare you say no to ?" she spat. "Not even my father disrespects
like that."
Astrid’s eyes locked onto Maddy’s, a hint of steel in her gaze. She was trying to remain calm, to keep her nerves in check, but Maddy’s constant provocation was pushing her to the limit.
She needed to keep her cool, not just for her own sake, but for the sake of the offer from the President and the pride of her grandfather.
"Maddy... I would like us to keep our formal relationship this way, I am not here for you," she announced.
"What? How dare.." Samuel stood up with his eyes wide with alarm, as he stood between them.
"I apologize on her behalf, please let this go, ma’am," He apologized imdiately.
But Maddy pushed Samuel out of the way, her hands grasping for Astrid.
"You think you can compete with
for Julian?" she shrieked. "You think you can take him away from ?"
"I am not competing with you, Maddy. You can have Julian, that is if he even wants you."
Maddy’s face contorted in a twisted mask of rage, her eyes burning with unbridled fury.
Her hand shot up, poised to deliver a vicious slap, but just as she was about to strike, the door swung open.
A series of guards strode in, indicating that the president was around. Close behind them, the President entered the room, his calm and authoritative deanor a stark contrast to Maddy’s seething anger.
The room fell silent, everyone standing at attention in respect as the President approached.
"Welco president!" Samuel and Astrid greeted but Maddy ran to her father, her eyes welling up with crocodile tears.
"Daddy! Thank goodness you are here," she announced as she grabbed his arms.
"Astrid is so rude. She disrespected
in front of everyone."
The President smiled, his eyes twinkling with amusent. "I am sure it’s just a misunderstanding, dear, you don’t have to take it to heart dear." but Maddy disagreed imdiately.
"Dad!" she yelled but her dad shut her up, "Maddy, I requested for her to co here, she is a guest."
Maddy’s face fell, her eyes widening in horror. "No, Daddy you can’t support her. She’s just a gold-digging miner."
Astrid’s eyes flashed with anger, her face pale with rage, "What?" Astrid asked and Maddy glanced her way.
"Yeah, you heard
right... you are just so bitch finding your way into the social ladder."
Astrid took a step forward until she was closer to where Maddy stood. "Are you done?" Ashe asked and Maddy nodded her head.
"Good, now receive my response." Astrid’s hand rose and before Maddy could react, Astrid slapped her across the face, the sound echoing through the room.
Everyone gasped in shock, Maddox’s face darkening with anger. "How dare you!" he thundered, his fists clenched.
But the President raised his hand, his voice calm. "Stop, Maddox. Let Astrid explain herself." This made Maddy and Maddox stunned.
Astrid turned to the President, her eyes bowed in respect. "I apologize, Mr. President. But I couldn’t let Maddy defa
without teaching her so manners."
The room fell silent at this, waiting for the president’s response "Then it’s fine," the president replied.
"Dad!" Maddox and Maddy called out.
"Walk Maddy out!" he announced and imdiately two guards moved toward her, "Dad! What are you doing? You shouldn’t..." but she was roughly dragged out of the room, not allowing her to finish her words.
"Astrid! You will pay for this little sly bitch!" she yelled and the door shut behind them.
As the security guards escorted Maddy out of the room, the President waited until the room was quiet before speaking.
"I apologize for my daughter’s behavior, Mrs Logan," he said, his voice sincere.
Astrid quickly waved her hand, dismissing the apology. "Please, Mr. President, don’t mind her. It’s not worth your ti."
The President smiled and nodded, gesturing for everyone to take their seats. As they sat down, Maddox couldn’t help but speak up.
"Dad, with all due respect, shouldn’t Astrid be reprimanded for her behavior?" he asked, his tone slightly accusatory.
The President leaned back in his chair, a hint of a smile on his face.
"Why should I reprimand her, Maddox? She’s more sensible than both of you put together. Astrid, a young girl, is out here trying to make a better life for herself, while you two are just making everyone feel inferior to you. What’s the point of that?" Astrid, Samuel, and the guard’s presence cracked at this.
Maddox’s face fell, and he shut his mouth embarrassed, looking properly chastised.
The President turned his attention to Astrid and Samuel. "Thank you both for honoring my invitation. I appreciate your ti." They all had their seats and then, he snapped his fingers, and his PA walked in, a file in hand as he handed it to Samuel.
"The President has a new project he wants you to work on," the PA said, handing the file to Astrid and Samuel.
"It’s a new state-of-the-art museum and cultural center. The President wants you to design and build an iconic building that showcases the country’s rich history and cultural heritage."
Then the President added, "I want this museum to be a symbol of our country’s commitnt to preserving our cultural heritage and promoting arts and education. I believe you have the expertise and vision to create a truly world-class museum that will attract visitors from all over the globe."
