"Wu Xiaode."
"Soul Power: 48/48, Willpower: 0; rit: 19.5."
"Human Emperor Mission: The Secret of the Border City."
"Description: There is a secret hidden within this city. You have three hours to explore it. If you exceed this ti, your mission will fail."
"Countdown starts now:"
"00:00:01."
It had begun!
Wu Xiaode looked at these words with a solemn expression.
Based on his experiences from the previous two missions, one couldn’t simply take the mission requirents at face value.
This ti, the mission description carried an ominous foreboding—
The ti limit was three hours.
Why was there only a three-hour ti limit?
Theoretically, the city had already activated its grand formation and could continue to exist.
Wu Xiaode looked towards the Book of the Dead.
On the pages, the two Angels were still in a deep slumber.
Bits of End that had turned into specks of light surrounded them, constantly revolving—
He still did not know how much longer it would take for them to completely absorb it.
Three hours...
It was nowhere near enough.
—In truth, he didn’t care about the mission itself.
But if he didn’t complete the Human Emperor mission, he would be sent back imdiately.
Concern weighed even heavier in Wu Xiaode’s heart until he saw Zhao Congnan coming over in a rage, carrying the head of Sun Qian.
"The mole has been killed by ."
Zhao Congnan said through gritted teeth as he threw the head onto the ground.
"Well killed—where’s Ma San?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Ma San is guarding the War Formation. I ca because there’s sothing I must tell you," said Zhao Congnan.
"What is it?" Wu Xiaode asked.
Zhao Congnan looked around and whispered, "As soon as the formation activated and swept across the city, it imdiately detected that there were still people within the city."
"There are other people? Are they injured or hiding sowhere, afraid to co out—let’s do this, tell their location, and I’ll go rescue them." Wu Xiaode stood up, saying this nonchalantly.
"It’s not like that."
Zhao Congnan grabbed Wu Xiaode’s arm with a tense expression and said:
"The formation can sense the peak strength of an individual. The individual detected is very strong, not inferior to the Dragon—even two such individuals were found."
Wu Xiaode imdiately beca serious.
If they had such strength, why didn’t they stop the Dragon from slaughtering the city?
"Are you sure they’re human?" he asked.
"It’s because I’m not sure, that I rushed to tell you," replied Zhao Congnan.
"Where are they?"
"City Lord Mansion."
"Alright, I’ll take a look."
Wu Xiaode was about to leave when sothing tugged at his pants.
Turning around, he saw Little Bone clinging pitifully to his thigh, saying, "Brother Wu, you’re my real brother, please give a hand. I really can’t assemble it."
Wu Xiaode glanced at the mountainous pile of bones and felt his head grow bigger.
"That’s your own body, you should assemble it carefully!" Wu Xiaode said righteously.
Little Bone, with tears in its eyes, said, "There are more than two thousand parts. I could assemble till eternity and not finish—I even got a few bones wrong earlier, look—"
It gestured for Wu Xiaode to look at its dog head.
On top of Little Bone’s head was a hook-shaped bone that made it look like it had a question mark on top, as strange as can be.
Wu Xiaode sighed, thought for a mont, then said, "Astalot."
"Master, I might not be good at assembling Legos, but I’m quite adept at smashing them," said the giant’s voice from the mist.
Wu Xiaode snapped his fingers.
Imdiately, "click click, crunch crunch" sounds ca from within the mist.
"Skadi?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Heehee, master, I might not know how to assemble dragons, but if it’s about connecting human bodies, I’m quite skilled at that," giggled the voice of the Enchanting Demon.
Wu Xiaode let out a helpless sigh and snapped his fingers again.
"Ulysses, you’re in the healing profession, you should be familiar with bones, right?" Wu Xiaode said.
A lazy voice ca from the mist, "Tricking and cheating, that’s where you find , but bones and such are too hardcore for . They don’t match our Holy style, master."
Wu Xiaode had to snap his fingers again.
Accompanied by a sound of "crunch crunch, click click, chirp chirp," the voice of Evil Ghost Rester resounded from the mist:
"Master, why not call sooner? I’m most interested in creating evil ghosts the world has never seen. Assembling bones is child’s play to ."
As it spoke, its fox head had already erged from the mist, its eyes filled with interest as it stared at the pile of bones.
Little Bone was overjoyed and couldn’t help barking twice, kneeling and imploring with paws together.
"Help it assemble, will you?" Wu Xiaode reluctantly said.
Rester chanted a spell.
Boom!
Countless little ghosts sprang out of the ground, sorting all the bones with incredible efficiency.
While they were sorting, Rester had already finished reading the Ice Frost instructions.
"You assemble it here; I’ll go check the situation," Wu Xiaode instructed.
The female half of Rester imdiately said,
"Please wait, master. Little Bone’s evolution into Dragon remains will surely result in a substantial increase in its combat effectiveness—not to ntion it already possesses the title of ’Silent Secret Leader,’ adept at uncovering secrets."
Upon hearing this, Little Bone nodded towards Wu Xiaode as well.
"Yes, our Bone Dragon clan is extrely proficient at uncovering secrets. It would be better if you wait for ," it said.
"How long will this take?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Five to seven minutes—after that, please take it with you into battle," Rester said.
Wu Xiaode glanced at the ti.
"00:04:59."
Spending five minutes to exchange for Little Bone’s advancent was worth it.
He stood in place, waiting.
"General, pretend you know nothing and go help Ma San defend the formation. The most important thing is to use it to protect yourselves," he instructed Zhao Congnan.
"Understood, be careful yourself."
Zhao Congnan hesitated for a mont, then pulled a trigram-shaped disc from his bosom and handed it to Wu Xiaode.
"What’s this?" Wu Xiaode asked, puzzled.
"This is my identity token—there are so areas inside the City Lord Mansion that can only be accessed after being verified by the identity of a high-level human general," Zhao Congnan explained.
"Thanks, General," Wu Xiaode said.
"Don’t ntion it." Zhao Congnan waved his hand and turned toward the direction of the formation.
A few minutes later.
Rester had completed the bone assembly for this occasion.
Little Bone was no longer just a bone dog; it had transford into a long skeletal dragon that excitedly flew back and forth in mid-air, never ceasing its movent.
"Has its strength improved?" Wu Xiaode asked uncertainly.
"Stronger than an average dragon—after all, it is now a Bone Dragon from the Death World," Rester said thoughtfully.
"Let’s go, ti is getting short," Wu Xiaode called out to the skeletal dragon soaring in the sky.
At the sound, the skeletal dragon flew down imdiately and alighted on the Book of the Dead.
It emitted a pale glow all over, with a fra of bones both slender and elegant yet imbued with a fierce aura.
"Any progress?" Wu Xiaode inquired.
"Actually, there were many directions for evolution, but I chose one after considering your combat style," the skeletal dragon replied.
"Which is?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Animal transformation, interdiate physical attack immunity, and Frost Breath. My Frost Breath can freeze targets, slowing all their movents, making it easier for you to take them down; as for animal transformation—"
With a shake of its form, the skeletal dragon "popped" into an inconspicuous mud dog.
It hopped down from the pages, wagged its tail, and stood beside Wu Xiaode’s feet.
"On the surface, I am just an insignificant mud dog—I guarantee this disguise is extrely clever; an ordinary person would definitely not notice that I am actually a Bone Dragon."
The skeletal dragon excitedly elaborated.
Wu Xiaode silently nodded.
Imagine, if the enemy beca careless and was entangled by a mud dog, they would surely pay it no mind and perhaps think to kick it away and be done with it.
But it was actually a Bone Dragon with abilities like "interdiate physical attack immunity" and "Frost Breath."
—And if it couldn’t overco the enemy, it would even go online to check their weaknesses.
Why would a perfectly fine Bone Dragon not learn so straightforward combat, instead of resorting to treacherous and vicious tactics?
Wait a second—
"Did you just say that you considered my combat style before deciding on an evolutionary path?" Wu Xiaode said with an expressionless face.
"Yes, you are truly so battle-ready, I find it very worthy learning from," the mud dog sensed so danger and imdiately spoke with an air of righteousness.
Wu Xiaode then had not much else to say.
"Right, now that I have evolved into a skeletal dragon, please don’t call ’Little Bone Dog’ anymore," the mud dog added.
"So, what should I call you?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"Everyone calls you Brother Wu, so please let others also address as Brother Little Bone," the mud dog replied.
"Do I have to call you Brother Little Bone too?"
"As for you, calling Little Bone will suffice."
"...Fine, then."
Man and dog started off, racing towards the City Lord Mansion.
...
"Current ti:"
"00:13:47."
Thirteen minutes had passed since the mission was announced.
Wu Xiaode enveloped himself and Little Bone in the silent Demon Mist as they searched for clues throughout the City Lord Mansion.
"Wait a second."
Little Bone’s nose twitched as if it sniffed sothing.
Looking in a certain direction, it spoke, "Let’s go this way!"
"Hey, you’re not actually a dog, how can you sll things?" Wu Xiaode asked.
"No matter what I beco, I am adept at discovering secrets," Little Bone replied.
"Thumbs up for you."
Wu Xiaode followed the direction it indicated, climbed over the wall, and arrived at the backyard.
There used to be a pavilion here, with lotuses beneath, but now the pond was drained of water, leaving only fish occasionally flopping on the bottom.
In the center of the pond was a spiral staircase heading downward, its destination unknown.
"I’ll go take a look," Little Bone said.
"Be careful," Wu Xiaode said.
"Don’t worry."
The mud dog dashed out, leapt into the bottom of the waterless pond, and landed in front of the staircase.
It rolled over and transford into a koi, hopping a few tis and tumbling down the stairs.
A line of ice crystal text erged before Wu Xiaode’s eyes:
"Your pet has activated ’animal transformation,’ turning into a fish."
Wu Xiaode shrugged his shoulders.
This fellow was capable, for sure—a valuable assistant for the future.
After a few monts.
The koi hopped back up from below the staircase, transford back into a mud dog, and wagged its tail at Wu Xiaode.
"Good."
Wu Xiaode leaped forward, landing in front of the staircase.
"Inside is a long corridor with no guards; it’s safe to go down for a look," the mud dog said in human speech.
