[Margaret’s POV]
Donald had been holding my hand tightly, even when we were simply walking around within the pack on a daily basis.
After the twists and turns of the last couple of days, he seed to have beco even clingier than , a realization that brought so happiness to my heart. My mate caring so much about was truly a blessing.
I looked up at his handso and perfect profile and suddenly sensed a gloominess in his mood. "What’s wrong, Donald? Has sothing happened?"
He had been incredibly busy lately, with various battles big and small constantly needing the personal attention of the Lycan King, spinning like a non-stop top. I felt a great deal of sympathy for him and wished there was sothing I could do to help.
"I’m fine, my dear, just a little tired," he said, looking down at with a gentle voice, as if seeing my concern.
Compared to him shouldering all the responsibilities alone and staying silent, I actually preferred this candidness that he occasionally showed, a tenderness reserved just for .
I chuckled lightly and snuggled closer to him, raising my hand to embrace the arm he was holding. "Then co ho early tonight. I’ll make you a delicious dinner, okay? Take a good rest, the official matters are endless anyway."
He never refused my requests, and his exceptionally handso face brightened with much more smiles, nodding in agreent.
Our casual conversation took place while we were on our way to the dical team. However, as soon as we entered this now crowded place, my heart began to sink.
Anthony had said that we had won a great victory in the battle last night, but seeing so many injured Lycans before , I no longer endorsed the fruits of this victory!
Or perhaps, as long as there is war, no one is a true victor.
"Your Majesty!"
"You’ve co, Your Majesty!"
"Miss Margaret is here too; did you co to see us with His Majesty?"
Such voices kept ringing in my ears. Donald’s warriors all respected greatly, but I felt a bit ashad.
Because the original purpose of my visit was only to see Elliot, who had saved , I hadn’t anticipated that there would be so many patients here.
My understanding of war was still too superficial, both on the treacherous battlefield and after the armistice.
"Hello, everyone, how are your injuries? If there’s anything I can help with, just let know, and I will do my utmost to assist you."
As I spoke, I suddenly felt sothing was wrong because I realized that I couldn’t actually do much for them.
With this thought, I suddenly felt a sense of loss and looked up at Donald. I nearly didn’t know how to do anything, and I really didn’t know how to help him sort out these troubles.
Donald gave a gentle glance but didn’t say much. However, when he turned to speak to everyone, his large hand was clasping mine tightly. "You all are incredibly brave warriors. The Royal Family will not abandon any one of you. First, rest well and heal up; we’ll be heading back to the Palace together later."
It was just two simple sentences, but it seed like everyone was inspired by Donald’s words!
He was the noble and exalted Lycan King, but at that mont, he was like a friendly elder brother from next door, difficult for anyone not to be moved by him.
"Your Majesty! Miss Margaret."
The one calling out to Donald was Benjamin, who had been standing by our side for a while, probably because he saw that everyone in the hospital was excited and neither Donald nor I could leave for the ti being, so he waited quietly.
Seeing the atmosphere had improved a lot, he reminded Donald and that we had important business to attend to.
Elliot’s room was a very small single ward, which was much more comfortable compared to the open bunks outside.
This was an unavoidable situation, as the Silver Moon Pack itself was not a very large tribe, and basic facilities like hospitals wouldn’t be abundant or large.
The hospital was originally only for the werewolves of our pack, and suddenly having to accommodate so many casualties, it was naturally difficult to integrate various resources.
Benjamin’s dical workload must be huge, I thought.
"How is he now? When can he be expected to wake up?" Donald asked, looking at Elliot on the hospital bed with a serious expression as he sat down on the chair that Benjamin had brought over.
I also sat down slowly, glanced at Elliot, who lay motionless on the bed, and then looked up at Benjamin with a questioning gaze.
"Elliot’s injuries are very severe; with the dical resources currently available to the Silver Moon Pack, it’s absolutely impossible to save him," Benjamin stated, looking at Donald seated in the chair, his tone calm yet cruel.
"What did you say? Elliot, he... even you, Benjamin, can’t save him? What should we do then? We can’t just give up on him, can we?"
I never expected things to be this way; my voice stumbled, surprised and doubtful as I looked at Benjamin.
