Lisa stord into the hospital, ready to unleash hell and fight for her son.

But the mont she took a corner and walked into a hallway, the sight that t her eyes stopped her in her tracks.

Lisa froze, her jaw hanging as a huge wave of surprise slamd into her.

Laura, who was rushing after her mother in an attempt to stop her from causing a scene, skidded to her stop when she saw what her mother was seeing too.

Laura’s heart shattered into pieces at the sight.

Curtis was sitting on the floor, crying like a baby. Laura had never seen her brother cry before.

Lisa started to tremble, unable to believe her eyes. She was stunned, to say the least. Surprised. Taken aback. Shocked.

Lazarus stood beside his boss, and there was a pained look on his face as he tried to think of what to do.

But as for Curtis? His grief and guilt had turned him into soone else entirely. Soone whose body has turned immobile. Soone who was finding it hard to breathe as tears stread down his face.

Laura gently walked over to her brother, and there were tears in her eyes as she crouched down to face him.

"What happened, Curtis?" she asked softly. Lazarus responded.

He told Laura about Lara’s situation and how dire it was, and Laura’s already shattered heart crumbled further.

His brother’s wife was on the verge of death. And if she died, if she didn’t make it past that operating table, it was going to be their fault.

Seeing Curtis lose all of his inhibitions like this was disheartening, but Laura knew that no words could ever make her brother feel better.

So she sat down on the floor beside him, and wrapped her hands around him.

A hug. That was all she had to offer.

Lazarus remained standing, his quiet presence telling Curtis that whatever happened, he was going to be there for his boss.

But as for Lisa, Lisa could not take it anymore. Her only son was crying over a woman. A woman that was carrying his baby and might not survive whatever was going on in the operating room.

The truth that Curtis had been trying so hard to tell his mother eventually hit Lisa.

Curtis loved his wife.

He was hopelessly, irrevocably, in love with her.

The realization slamd into Lisa like an avalanche. Her knees buckled beneath her, and she suddenly couldn’t breathe.

Without stopping to think about anything, Lisa turned on her heels and ran out of the hospital.

Neither Curtis nor Laura moved at her sudden disappearance.

After a few minutes of holding Curtis, Laura slowly peeled away to look him in the eye.

"Lara needs you, Curtis. You need to stand up. You can’t sit in this hallway forever. She needs you to be there for her, waiting to hold her the mont they wheel her out of the hospital room. Don’t just sit here, please. You need to stand up and go to her," she said softly.

Curtis raised red rimd eyes to her.

"What if she doesn’t co out of there alive? What if...what if I had been too late?" he croaked.

Laura lifted her hands to touch his cheeks.

"You are not too late. She is going to be fine. Trust ," she whispered.

Curtis stared at her for a long mont, his skin pale with fear. Then he took a long, deep breath, and blinked.

The change that ca over him was instant. Gone was the man filled with guilt and pain, the woman who had been so scared that his wife was going to die and leave him behind.

The man that stood up and held a hand to help his sister up was Curtis Rodney, the magnate and ruthless billionaire that everyone loved and feared at the sa ti.

Lazarus’s lips curled into a slight smile at the return of his boss. Curtis dabbed at his eyes with a handkerchief. Then he patted Lazarus on the shoulder.

"I will need a full and extensive explanation later. But for now, I just want to say thank you," Curtis said curtly.

Lazarus nodded in response. "Anyti, sir."

"Lead to her," Curtis commanded. And without wasting any more ti, the three of them — Curtis, Laura and Lazarus — walked towards the operating room.

They found Kayla pacing the hallway that faced the operating room, and she ignored them all when they arrived.

Curtis could hear her words echo in his ears again, and it made his heart clench. He felt as though he needed to say sothing to Kayla to reassure his wife’s friend that his absence hadn’t been his choice.

That it wasn’t his intention to fall into a coma and remain unconscious for that long.

But the words got stuck in his throat, and he said nothing. Neither of them said anything.

Tension — hot, think and almost visible — simred between them all.

And a few hours later, when the door opened and a doctor walked up, the four of them beca attentive. Alert.

The man looked at them for a short mont before he spoke.

"I’ll assu you’re Mrs. Rodney’s family mbers?" he asked.

Curtis stepped forward.

"I am her husband," he said curtly.

The man nodded before he spoke again. "Luckily for you, we managed to get your wife in there in ti. If we had been even a few seconds late, all would have been lost," he stated and paused, looking at them all one by one.

Then he went on.

"The babies are okay. Congratulations Mr. Rodney, you are now the father of twins. A boy and a girl. Healthy babies."

A wave of relief wove through the four of them, and Curtis closed his eyes at the words. But he couldn’t relax yet.

Not when the doctor hadn’t said anything about his wife.

He took a step closer to the man.

"What about my wife, Doctor? Is she...is she okay?" he asked, and his voice was slightly shaky.

The Doctor took a deep breath and looked away for a mont. That single action made dread coil in Curtis’s belly.

Fear thrumd in his veins.

"Talk to , Doctor. Has anything happened to my wife?" he insisted.

The man held his gaze as he responded. "I’m sorry, Mr. Rodney. But your wife didn’t do so well. She is currently showing signs of Sepsis, but the bigger news is that because of the heavy bleeding, we had to perform an ergency hysterectomy."

Curtis’s entire world tilted to the side."You an—"

The doctor’s voice softened. "We had to remove her uterus, Mr. Rodney. I’m afraid she won’t be able to carry a pregnancy again."
